Daws Butler was to Hanna-Barbara what Mel Blanc was to Warner Bros.
@Chris de Leon I used to collect many of the Hanna-Barbera albums on the Colpix record label. They featured Daws Butler and his counterpart Don Messick. Anyway, you described Daws perfectly, Chris.
I'm always a fan of seeing voice actors performing their famous characters on-screen. I'd seen quite a few others like Mel Blanc, Paul Winchell, Billy West, the cast of the Simpsons, and others, but I'd never been able to find any footage of Daws Butler doing his most famous voices before this clip. This was an absolute treat.
Bonnie Shay was the type of girl every guy wanted to marry and settle down with. I was so very lucky to find such a girl, and we are coming up on our 40th anniversary.
The way the teacher lady stands is delightful... very feminine.

I was born too late. I find the Miss Shay, the 2nd grade teacher absolutely gorgeous! I would've loved to meet her back them. She's not only attractive and intelligent but modest and classly!
That was back when women dressed like women and men dressed like men and you could tell them apart at a glance. Today you often can't tell a male from a female even if they're within spittin' range.

Daws Butler is a voice actor and actor; he volunteered to appear free of charge in Loyola Los Angeles (Loyola Marymount) student films circa 1968. A real gentleman. He voiced Yogi Bear and Huckleberry Hound in Hanna Barbera cartoons !
Well its not like she watched american movies while living overseas. I agree he's one smart guy and I remember watching hide cartoons so I'm glad to see who did the voices.
I love how Mel Blanc was the cartoon voice in the theatre, and Daws was the cartoon voice on television. Then when they started doing cartoons together, it was just amazing.
They asked the question about Owensboro, Covington and Lexington on another show.
Everything that schoolteacher said about what she did with the children in her classroom - right down to the bunnyh hop dance - is stuff I remember from kindergarten when I was a kid. It's not like that anymore, is it?

I will say that, although I am a huge fan of Groucho and love this show, Groucho’s sexist remarks do get rather tiresome after a while. I love the man, but you could tell that even the audience didn’t appreciate some of the remarks. But that’s life, I suppose. Who among us doesn’t have any flaws?

Marie Gomez looks like a biracial black woman and her french accent sounds like a put on. Very cartoonish. Shes probably from New Jersey. Considering the racial climate of the time I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case.

Daws Butler married a woman from my hometown in North Carolina. The voice of Huckleberry Hound was based on that of a veterinarian that lived next door to the Martins (Myrtis Butler's maiden name).
It feels like there was a much more varied repertoire of voices back then. Now everyone falls into distinct voice groups
People's dress and grooming were so much better back in those days. Now it's just pajama bottoms and football jerseys everywhere. No dignity.

Not rehearsed. There was a basic question pre-interview only. Contestants never saw Groucho until filming. Joe Ambrose is a royal prick...ALWAYS a negative comment
These were cut and edited. Yes a live audience, but the networks did censor some of the dialog when Groucho got a little risqué.

Marie Gomez became the recurring character, Perlita Flores, on "The High Chaparral" TV series.
She also appeared on "Dobie Gillis", "Combat", "The Wild West", "I Spy", and several other TV series.
Gomez was in the movie, "The Professionals".
I loved it when Groucho followed her flouncy-bounce off the stage! So politically incorrect and so-Groucho!

Tex was a cartoon genius-- but the voice actors and the writers carried all the heavy weight on the Hanna Barbera TV cartoons. It sure wasn't the animation that made them entertaining!!!

What a great episode. Before cable ruined TV, we had a local mom & pop UHF station in every big city (in addition to the three network channels). Ours was WKBD TV50 and they ran these throughout the '60s and '70s. Every weeknight it was The Honeymooners, then You Bet Your Life (aka "Best of Groucho"), then Twilight Zone. Then they'd play the National Anthem and sign off for the day, unless it was Saturday night. Saturdays they'd stay on late to show double features like "House of Wax" (1953) and "The Fly" (1958). TV was AWESOME back then!
Indeed those were the days! What a great lineup of programs.
When I was making ads, I got to meet or work with a lot of Stan Freberg's favorite actors: June Foray, Peter Leeds, Naomi Lewis and Bill Woodson. But I started too late to meet or work with Daws. He did so much for so many voice actors. A great talent.
That teacher reminds me of Dagwoods Blondie in the comic strip.

At 14:15 Groucho says, “Don’t they have to have money in the bank?” Marie says, “Yes, they have money, too” but there’s no recognition that she said the secret word.
Love the way the people in the audience look, neat, tidy.
Today, 60 years later... Many would sit there in just jogging pants, dirty sneakers, and t-shirts with stupid text. The average person back then didn't have much money either, but they had class, were 90% descent, friendly, social. Seems today it's 90% the other way around. Unfriendly sarcastic, inarticulate... Where the f word is 4 times in every sentence. Not so nice.
Same with people on airplanes. Even as late as the 1980s, people still got on a flight looking relatively pulled together. Now people might literally be wearing anything at all, like they just woke up or are about to go mow the lawn or something. 😲
How true! Incidentally, decent is how it's spelled, and most people had common decency. It's like another world today.

I couldnt believe how gorgeous that teacher was. She had me spinning ! Also great to finally see somebody win the $10,000; I had my fingers crossed ! That was a fortune back then . Today it would be over $46,000 !!!
Sorry to correct you but $10,000 won in the 1950’s would be equivalent to nearly $90,000 in 2021.
21:08 Back in 1966 when I was a younger person, our family purchased a very nice house in a nice neighborhood for just under $20,000. So imagine what this kind of money was in 1960! In 1966 you could purchase a brand new top of the line car for around $4,000.

The bunny hop was hilarious
After Hanna-Barbera introduced the Yogi Bear character; baseball star Yogi Berra was very angry and intended to sue the animation company for defamation of character. Then, after some deliberations; he changed his mind: '"Television is big enough for both me and Yogi Bear," he said. "I was going to sue the Yogi Bear program for using my name, until somebody reminded me Yogi isn't my real name - it's Lawrence." So maybe he came close, but never pulled the trigger. Then again, three years earlier, he told the same newspaper that he had never heard of the cartoon character until his kids discovered it. "My kids love it because they say the bear reminds them of their old man," said Berra, hardly sounding like someone who was claiming his reputation was hurt."'

Fun to hear Groucho and Fred Haney having a fun little BS session about old-time baseball! Interesting that Ty Cobb said he watched the show, too -- by this time (1960), he was in very ill health, in a lot of pain and drinking heavily. Good to know he still had it in him to enjoy a good laugh!

Groucho Marx - You Bet Your Life , I absolutely love these shows. I have just the vaguest memory of them from the 50s, but I'd never gotten to appreciate them as an adult. And the outtakes episodes are among the funniest things I've ever seen. Thanks for searching these out. I'm also a What's My Line fan.

This tv show really revived Groucho's career. After he and his brothers disbanded his career faded due to some mediocre films (Copacabana for one. The film had alot of comic potential but alas it didn't work. Groucho was funny though). Groucho signed on to voice a cartoon version of himself in an animated Marx Brothers show (being created by Batman creator Bob Kane) which alas never happened.
He was amazing. I recently bought his book and Harpo’s book and have read about him. He was one of a kind.

Yeah, I remember "Here comes Peter Cotton Tail" from about 2nd grade. Along with a holiday horde of junk food from the teachers. It seemed to be a nutritional supplement at the elementary school.

If I recall correctly, she was Pat's mother? I know this only because of comments left on the WML video (which could be wrong).
You may be right, I recall hearing they were related during the run of The Munsters. I'll have to look it up.
I stand corrected, it was her mother, Ivy Baker Priest, and Pat Priest was the second Marilyn Munster on the show.

Maria Gomez became an actress and starred in such films as The Professionals. She was, as she appears here, a really quite beautiful woman. I think she may still be alive.
