  • See how to sketch architecture in watercolor, you don't need linear perspective and rulers when sketching on site! Tips for how to capture the impression of the building instead of measuring every line in the building are provided. Drawing on site is at the Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon, Portugal. Demo by Art Prof Clara Lieu, with commentary by Teaching Artist Cat Huang.

    Love the double voice overs dialog bits. Sounds like you guys really enjoyed yourselves. Very casual yet visually informative editing on this one. Just happened to be in Caminha in the north of Portugal doing some outside drawing myself today. All of the coastal Atlantic areas are a paradise this time of the year. Enjoy it!

    Wonderful, loose sketch that magically contains all the info you need. I really need to try the plein air thing.

      You totally should! Plein air (when I'm in the mood for it) is such a lovely way to unwind - Mia, Art Prof Staff

    Showing the looseness of your sketching technique with the watercolor really loosened me up from some rigid ideas I had about sketching arcitecture! Thanks

    I remember going to a de-medici critique with you about sketching and you said very similar things! Helped a ton with my trip and so glad this information is now out for everyone to take in! Thanks Prof Lieu and Cat!

    This is one of my favourite videos you have ever made, it is beautifully edited and so instructive, love the idea of an architectural drawing as a gesture drawing!

    That's so cool! I've visited there when I was on vacations some years ago, but at that time I didn't have time to sketch it because my family wouldn't have the patience to wait for me hehe

    This is so encouraging for me! I just temporarily moved to Berlin and brought my watercolor stuff with me. I am so ready to paint some of the great architecture here while it’s still warm out (instead of just taking iPhone photos haha)

    At school we have to do a coursework about buildings architecture in our local city.
    So i choose some sort of watch tower beside a some sort of geometrical sphere structure in the middle of roundabout as my subject.
    We can only used dry media but, im fine with it since dry media is my strength and i kinda suck at wet media.

    • @artprof
      @artprof  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love working with scratchy dry media too! I used to have a cool brush pen I'd use, it was nearly empty so it had a great texture to it. Thanks for watching! - Mia, Art Prof Staff
