I was a kid when Hercules came out and I remember it being very popular and appreciated for years and even now. It just kind of came as a surprise to me when it appeared on this list, especially so high up. o.O I very much agree with HoND, though. Definitely one of my favourites if not my most favourite Disney movie, but that's only since I've found a new appreciation for it as an adult. It's an absolutely gorgeous movie visually, musically, and narratively.
These are literally all of my favorite Disney movies... I know they ARE underrated, but how could someone just leave movies like these alone? They are true works of art!
I have wondered that as well, even if I have just recently gotten to know and appreciate these underrated films. I think one reason they haven't gotten a lot of attention is because many viewers aren't used to the rather unconventional style of some of these films by Disney standards like Treasure Planet, Atlantis, and Hunchback of Notre Dame. While Treasure Planet got many good reviews at the time of its release, I feel because of the way it was marketed discouraged many film-goers from giving it a chance.
***** Another reason Hercules is underrated is due to many people didn't like its cartoonish style, and soundtrack, I assume. But the movie itself is nice, despite its flaws.
I love all of these movies, I remember how everyone was going on about the jokes from both brother bear and emperors new groove when they came out. I saw treasure planet very late, and I think that one is more underrated because it came out the same time as Harry potter and the chamber of secrets and Lord of the rings, so it was a bad timing.
Yes, you're right. Some under-appreciated films like Treaure Planet haven't gotten widespread notice because of coming out in the same time as hugely successful films at the time. If Treasure Planet was released a little later, it might have done better at the box office and gotten more recognition.
YES, YES TO ALL THESE MOVIES!!!! :D all of these are my childhood and are amazing! some were even done before I was born! god why!? why cant Disney make more movies like this!? also people say the black coldron was underrated because of it being to scary..but I watched this as a kid and enjoyed it! I think some kids just cant take the awesomeness!
I should really start putting a disclaimer in the beginning of my ranking videos because I get so much attitude for my choices. I've even started putting "Favorite" in the titles because people sass me. It's an OPINION! It can't be wrong...Love the video btw. Atlantis, Emperor's New Groove, and Atlantis are probably my top three. In my group of friends, Hunchback and Hercules are BIG deals, so I don't view them as underrated. We revere them very highly. :)
I never noticed before! 4:55 the cactus turned is llama shaped after she threw the potion in it. XD lmao. I LOVE Emperor's New Groove. AND Atlantis, AND Brother Bear. Matter of fact, I loved almost every single one of them.
omg exactly i totally agree with every single movie, oh and adding "the rode to Eldorado". BIG THUMBS UP TO U...and i wish they would let u put the live action countdown, i mean shit they actually blocked it worldwide!!!! WTF i wish people would calm down a bit its just an opinion
I'm sorry but I love Brother Bear, it's one of my top 10 Disney movies of all time. It's beautifully animated, has great songs and has a brilliant story line :)
I totally agree with your #1. I looking for it throughout the video and when it got to #1, I was hoping it would be The Hunchback of Notre Dame! Great video!!!!
I couldn't agree more with this list. Oliver and Company was great, and Hunchback of Notre Dame is my favourite Disney movie, along with Lion King, Lion King: Simba's pride, Beauty and the Beast and Lilo and Stitch. I just really didn't like Black Cauldron.
The really sad part about these underrated movies is how they're far more superior then the new disney movies coming out these days. How can the Hunchback, Hercules, Atlantis, Aristocats, Emperors new groove and Treasure Planet be lesser films compared to Frozen and Tangled?
Treasure Planet is the most underrated Disney movie EVER created and is my all time Disney favorite.. For me Treasure planet is like 95% and Frozen is like 2% in my eyes. If you could make a list for the most OVERRATED Disney movies Frozen would be number 1, it's all about the hype really, not about the story, because that story sucks..wait, what story?
Treasure planet had a lovely, unconventional (for disney that is) story, take away the space travel and the monsters and you have a story of a troubled boy in need of a father figure, who he finds in someone, who isn´t afraid to tell him off and give him the tough love his kind, but fragile mother couldn´t give him. You also have the story of a criminal in search of gold and material goods, but who´s heart is melted by a young boy. It´s very beautiful.
Very good. I've never seen Treasure Planet, Emperor's New Groove, Brother Bear or Hercules (I did see the TV spin-off however), but the rest of 'em are awesome (that includes the special mentions)!
I know another one.....The Great Mouse Detective. If that was one you haven't seen, I recommend checking it out. I found it very adorable and very cute. I have no idea why it is over looked. And I can actually name another one, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. Absolutely no recognition. And thank you for acknowledging The Sword in the Stone. In fact, that is my favorite Disney movie. Does anyone else appreciate it? Apparently not
Loved Oliver and Company. Haven't watched Fox and the Hound in AGES!! Atlantis, though admitidly weak compared to other Disney classics. Emperor's New Groove is hilarious. Sword and the Stone is old. The Aristocats is among my favorite Disney movies ever, along with the Rescuers. Oh Nostalgia. Memories come flooding back.
Yes, I would include The Rescuers on my list. I love that movie. I wouldn't include black cauldron, though. It's extremely underrated, and has a great villian, but I wouldn't include it in MY top ten best underrated disney movies list.
Rescuers '77 was actually the high point of the Dark Ages (post-Walt films until The Little Mermaid, which kicked of the Renaissance, funny how that works)
THe problem with these movies is that while they are pretty good, most people see more flaws than movies like Bambi, Sleeping Beauty or The Lion King in them
I always found Sleeping Beauty boring. Only the side characters and villains have any kind of personality. Aurora and the prince are practically vacant space.
Bambi is low on story, and i haven't seen Sleeping Beauty, but what's wrong with The Lion King? It's my favorite with great voices, music, story, drawing, animation, etc.
Bob Dole I think that is because the film is actually supposed to be from the point of view of the faries, Fauna, Flora, and Merryweather. So Aurora and the prince are more side characters than main. I honestly found Bambi more boring than sleeping beauty, but everyone has different opinions.
Those have familiar, more realistic art, and relatable characters. Going by Bambi, story doesn't matter much, but i also doubt Bambi had much competition back then. I think Fox and the Hound would've been a bigger hit, but the name isn't as catchy.
Sword in the Stone, Emporors New groove, fox and the hound, the aristocats, and Atlantis. Great shows. So much nostalgia when I think back to watching them when I was young. still good now that I am older
Oliver & Company, The Aristocats, Brother Bear, Hercules, and Robin Hood were literally my entire childhood. I also loved The Emperor's New Groove and The Great Mouse Detective.
I think Mulan enjoyed a good fervor of enthusiasm when it first came out and for a number of years after, but that it's faded in the public mind over time. Not really underrated so much as a victim of too many good movies and not enough time.
I came here to find Disney movies I haven't seen yet. I haven't seen 8 of them including the special mentions, and 3 of them I first saw recently. Good job with the list. :) Oh, and Hercules was my favorite as a kid.
I really love The Sword in The Stone, Hercules, Robin Hood!!! I also really want 2 see The Black Cauldron and Treasure Planet. And I want 2 see Atlantis again. :) Great job on this! :)
just ignore this video guy, he has no idea what hit movies and underrated movies are. he thinks just because friends of his have never heard of his favorite Disney movies that they are underrated Disney films. it doesn't occur to him that maybe they are either a embarrassed to admit they watch Disney or B have never wanted or cared about any Disney films.
The Emperor's New Groove, my childhood and, well, whole life up to this point. I swear I reference this every day five times. I agree that it's pretty underrated. But The Fox and the Hound? Really? I think it's actually pretty overrated.
I don't know. It's not like you see tons of toys for it everywhere. Plus, it's pretty nonconventional for a Disney film, particularly in the ending. Then again, if its piece-of-shit sequel has boosted the popularity for it, then maybe I don't want to like "Fox and the Hound" as much as I do…
My favs of your choices: Sword in the Stone (love it), The Emperor's New Groove (my childhood), Hercules (still a favorite), and The Hunchback of Notre Dame (one of my favorite movies of ALL time; Esmeralda ROCKS!). I do wish you included the Black Cauldron though. I love that movie.
thank you soooooooooooooooooooo much for making this video!!!!! it gives some people the sense to know that there are more Disney movies than Snow White, Cinderella, Little Mermaid, Etc., (don't get me wrong, I like those movies too!!!) but this is just me saying, but I enjoy the underrated movies more ( especially The Emperor's New Groove!!!!!!) KUZCO!!!!! XD
Wow... this makes me want to watch all these movies again, especially Hercules, and The Emperor's New Groove, I watched those movies soooooo many times when I was a child :D
I am so happy that The Fox and the Hound made this list! Such a great movie, even though it's terribly sad, I teared up a little just watching the one clip.
The Black Cauldron is so underrated it breaks my heart. It's by far one of my most absolute favorite Disney movies and most people I know haven't even heard of it D'x
A damn good list, A few I don't care a great deal for but I cannot deny them as good movies. Special thanks for Including Brother Bear, The Emperors New Groove, Atlantis and of course The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
I've watched The Hunchback of Notre Dame once...and that was a long ass time ago. Time to go watch it now! I forgot how great a film it is and how heart wrenching it is as well.
WHO CARES ABOUT WHAT'S OVERRATED OR UNDERRATED!!! In my opinion, every Disney Film Is AWESOME! I Have seen almost every Disney movie that's on this list! AND IT'S MORE ANNOYING STILL HEARING PEOPLE SAYING FROZEN IS OVERRATED!!! IT'S NOT!
"AND IT'S MORE ANNOYING STILL HEARING PEOPLE SAYING FROZEN IS OVERRATED!!! IT'S NOT!" Preach! You are so right. LOVE the aristocats, it's the most iconic disney movie I watched with my family when I was little :3
- I LOVE That Movie !
:D
thats all i would watch
ive never seen it
I was a kid when Hercules came out and I remember it being very popular and appreciated for years and even now. It just kind of came as a surprise to me when it appeared on this list, especially so high up. o.O
I very much agree with HoND, though. Definitely one of my favourites if not my most favourite Disney movie, but that's only since I've found a new appreciation for it as an adult. It's an absolutely gorgeous movie visually, musically, and narratively.
Oh my god fox and the hound is one of the saddest stories disney's ever written if I remember right...
+StahliCell you totally remember right
It's true fox and the hound makes you cry
+Kristina Feere by kh

Omg treasure planet was my favorite movie growing up
+jacob lopez lol mine too
These are literally all of my favorite Disney movies... I know they ARE underrated, but how could someone just leave movies like these alone? They are true works of art!

ahh, brother bear. so underappreciated
It was actually a hit it had a sequel
Emperor's New Groove is in the top 3 funniest and most quotable movies I've ever seen
So many childhood memories with Oliver and Company alone!
Oliver and company has to be one of my favorite Disney movies for nostalgic purposes... I watch it twice a year with my family... Beautiful movie
+Alyssa Baker That sounds really sweet :3
Wait, Hercules is underrated?
i know right! HURCULES IS AWESOME
***** Another reason Hercules is underrated is due to many people didn't like its cartoonish style, and soundtrack, I assume. But the movie itself is nice, despite its flaws.
***** Yes, I understand. Hercules is a good movie, but it isn't my favorite one, IMHO.
The Rescuers, its sequel, Mulan, Tarzan, Fantaia 2000, The Emperor's New Groove are my favorite ones.
Oh! The only animated movies with historical inaccuracies that I know are Pocahontas and Anastasia (a non-Disney film)

YES, YES TO ALL THESE MOVIES!!!! :D all of these are my

also people say the black coldron was underrated because of it

Totally agree. Hunchback is #1
Completely completely agree with this list, especially the top 2 -- ESPECIALLY Hunchback, it's my favorite Disney movie
The bells of notre dame is my favorite disney song
This is the best, most comprehensive/ accurate/ incredible list of movies ever. You have ultimately completed my life
BLESS THIS VIDEO
Fox and the Hound, for me, is one of the best movies. Sad, but one of the bests.
I really need to watch Hunchback again... i havent watched it in FOREVER
bof
Emperor's New Groove or Treasure Planet should have been number one
YAY Treasure Planet, in my opinion that is #1, but I'm so glad you included it on here. Also Hercules, it's another of my favourite Disney films. :)
Aristocats, Robin hood, and emperors new groove are awesome movies
I hate Aristocats, I havent seen Robin Hood and I love The Emperors New Groove
I never noticed before! 4:55 the cactus turned is llama shaped after she threw the potion in it. XD lmao. I LOVE Emperor's New Groove. AND Atlantis, AND Brother Bear. Matter of fact, I loved almost every single one of them.
Some of these movies are on my top 10 disney movies list.
omg exactly i totally agree with every single movie, oh and adding "the rode to Eldorado". BIG THUMBS UP TO U...and i wish they would let u put the live action countdown, i mean shit they actually blocked it worldwide!!!! WTF i wish people would calm down a bit its just an opinion
Fae Albahrani The Road To El Dorado is Dreamworks.
OMG I LOVE THE ROAD TO EL DORADO!! My favorite dreamworks movie everrr!!!!
I've watched Brother Bear and I agree that it's kinda underrated.
I love it so much
Great list! I love the high quality of your video clips, too. And you chose some powerful scenes for this video, too!
I'm sorry but I love Brother Bear, it's one of my top 10 Disney movies of all time. It's beautifully animated, has great songs and has a brilliant story line :)
Don't be sorry. Brother Bear is a fantastic film.
Yeah I love it too alot off people moan about it and don't give it a chance but it's great to know there are fans out there XD
why are you sorry? I like it, and it is on the BEST underrated disney films list.
I totally agree with your #1. I looking for it throughout the video and when it got to #1, I was hoping it would be The Hunchback of Notre Dame! Great video!!!!
In my opinion the most under rated disney movie is the great mouse detective.
I think it is not really underrated.
oh my gosh I love those movies!! I'm so glad someone else recognizes them
I know them all~ Love most of them too c:
OMG what a great list!!! i especially agree with your number 1 choice. it's a beautiful movie and definitely needs more attention. this made my day!!
You had me at Treasure Planet. A good list.
Finally someone who gets me I love all of these movies! Where have you been all my life?
I couldn't agree more with this list. Oliver and Company was great, and Hunchback of Notre Dame is my favourite Disney movie, along with Lion King, Lion King: Simba's pride, Beauty and the Beast and Lilo and Stitch. I just really didn't like Black Cauldron.
I love Hercules and the Emperor's New Groove!! Thanks for posting (love your videos)
The really sad part about these underrated movies is how they're far more superior then the new disney movies coming out these days. How can the Hunchback, Hercules, Atlantis, Aristocats, Emperors new groove and Treasure Planet be lesser films compared to Frozen and Tangled?
Looking at this video really made me realize how many great Disney movies i have to rewatch during my winter break :D
I agree with you. Treasure Planet was amazing! and Frozen... well it was lacking a lot compared to other Disney movies.
So what's the other 3%?
BlayAndHowlie that's not what I was saying, it's a rating, not a part of 100%
The best Disney movie in existence.
It´s very beautiful.
you put every Disney film I love on this :D
OMG Brother Bear!!! you gotta be kidding me
The Hunchback of Notre Dame is my favourite Disney movie! So glad to see it there C: I honestly love all of these. They're fantastic!
What about Lilo and Stitch? Anyone else remember that movie?
I do
really? Cause where I am literally no one knows it :
Lilo and Stitch is practically my childhood
I do. I remember watching the movies and tv show all of the time. XD.
Thank you for this so much, Treasure Planet and, most of all, Hunchback, are two of my absolute favorite Disney movies
What about Fantasia and Fantasia 2000?
Fantasia may seem underrated, but it's a true masterpiece. Its sequel is good.
not disney
The Golden Paladin
Fantasia is Disney...
ThecompanyofSunshine sorry, i was thinking of Anastasia, it was an honest mistake
The Golden Paladin Oh, that's OK
Thank you for including _Oliver and Company._ Even though I think it should have been higher, I'm still glad it's here.
The only one on this list I really consider underrated is the first rescuer movie and the black cauldron, all the rest I've seen dozens of times
Which is sad, because I really love that movie.
Wow that list is one of the bet lists I've ever seen. It's really true! Love it
Brother bear is my favorite Disney movie
THANK YOU FOR PUTTING ANTLANTIS!!!!!! It's my favorite disney movie ever and most people don't even know it!:(
THe problem with these movies is that while they are pretty good, most people see more flaws than movies like Bambi, Sleeping Beauty or The Lion King in them
I always found Sleeping Beauty boring. Only the side characters and villains have any kind of personality. Aurora and the prince are practically vacant space.

Bob Dole
I think that is because the film is actually supposed to be from the point of view of the faries, Fauna, Flora, and Merryweather. So Aurora and the prince are more side characters than main. I honestly found Bambi more boring than sleeping beauty, but everyone has different opinions.
C. Timmerman I think he was saying that Bambi, Sleeping Beauty, and The Lion King are ones that people don't really have many problems with.
Cant forget Hurcules!!!!! that is a great one
cant forget The Rescuers
Rescuers Down Under is way better and is more underrated than the first one. Plus it's the best Disney sequel.
I agree; some of these movies were my favorites, but I had completely forgotten about them. :)
In my opinion, Emporor's New Groove should be #1
Oliver & Company, The Aristocats, Brother Bear, Hercules, and Robin Hood were literally my entire childhood. I also loved The Emperor's New Groove and The Great Mouse Detective.
Mulan can sometimes be underrated as well.......
I think Mulan enjoyed a good fervor of enthusiasm when it first came out and for a number of years after, but that it's faded in the public mind over time. Not really underrated so much as a victim of too many good movies and not enough time.
Bob Dole Interesting point!
the only thing thats underrated about that movie is the character shang, nobody ever notices how great he is
I came here to find Disney movies I haven't seen yet. I haven't seen 8 of them including the special mentions, and 3 of them I first saw recently. Good job with the list. :) Oh, and Hercules was my favorite as a kid.
i agree but she forgot robin hood
or he
Robin Hood isn't underrated. It might look like it but it isnt
The Sun Robin hood is actually the lowest disney movie buget ever
Taylor Garza Oh mkay
I really love The Sword in The Stone, Hercules, Robin Hood!!! I also really want 2 see The Black Cauldron and Treasure Planet. And I want 2 see Atlantis again. :)
Great job on this! :)
Wait! How is the hunchback of Notre dame the aristocats the emperors new groove the great mouse detective underrated?!!!!
Most people forget about them because other more popular movies came out but when rewatched they're amazing
just ignore this video guy, he has no idea what hit movies and underrated movies are. he thinks just because friends of his have never heard of his favorite Disney movies that they are underrated Disney films. it doesn't occur to him that maybe they are either a embarrassed to admit they watch Disney or B have never wanted or cared about any Disney films.
+Robert Freymuth Yeah.. I still have all my Disney movies on VHS , not DVD.
What about the goofy movie? That was one of my favourite movies as a child and still is, underrated but such a good film :)
Hi mlpstopmotion, I love your channel, I even subscribed to you a few months ago
It is from Disney Toon, this video is just classic Disney.
The Emperor's New Groove, my childhood and, well, whole life up to this point. I swear I reference this every day five times. I agree that it's pretty underrated. But The Fox and the Hound? Really? I think it's actually pretty overrated.
I know. I love the emperore's new groove too

Ted Sava me three!
Susan Joyce Emperors new groove is the best
The fox and the hound is my most favourite disney movie. Its my most favourite animated movie ever. (Including Pixar)

How is hercules Underrated?

KUZCO!!!!! XD

Hercules, Treasure Planet, Atlantis, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Emperors New Groove. These movies are truly underrated, thank you for your list.
I am so happy that The Fox and the Hound made this list! Such a great movie, even though it's terribly sad, I teared up a little just watching the one clip.

Except Chicken Little! Wow was that awful!
+The Cinematic Mind No it wasn't
Fox and the Hound is my all time favorite Disney movie. No others. It's sad to see that its forgotten :,(
