Terri Hemmert IS "The Last DJ!" She is sweet, genuine and passionate, just like Tom.

This is a great story. Tom truly changed my life. I left a concert the Heartbreakers put on in August of 2002. I walked out of that place knowing that I wanted to write songs. I wrote my first song the next day. "The Last DJ" came out about two months later and everything came right into focus for me. Tom undoubtedly has changed the world.

Thank you for sharing. Wonderful story. I obviously never knew Tom but always loved him, his music. I’m going to miss him. I still cry. I’m 52 years old and this must be what it was like for my mom when Elvis died, although I remember that day well.

I can’t believe he’s been gone 3 years. Thanks for sharing this lovely story. Tom always stood up for the little guy and he never backed down from the corporate greed of the music industry.
He never sold out or allowed his music to be used for commercial gain like his contemporaries. He kept his ticket prices reasonable and made his music accessible to all.
The people who inspired Tom like the Beatles and the Byrds sought him out. He had Harrison, Dylan, McGuinn, Cash, Nicks knocking on his door to collaborate.
Tom really touched the world with his music and I am thankful I got to see him in concert several times. I hope he knew what he meant to his fans. 🎸🎤🎹💔

That was so sweet of you to share. It's amazing how you were able to talk him out of his, I guess you would say, depression state. You turned it around for him, kudos to you. I never had the honor of meeting Tom, but going through different interviews I can tell he indefinably was a good man with a great heart. I feel as though I'm still in mourning and will be for quite some time. We've lost a great man. Thank you again.

Great story!! Thanks for sharing. I've been in morning radio, programming/management etc since 1984. Interactions with musicians may have waned some, but they still happen. My biggest, most personal chat was unplanned. Just happened when Ben Orr of The Cars and his gf Diane were traveling thru our area and heard us play his first solo song (before any other station had) and heard me discussing what I thought about the tracks I'd heard. To interact with these folks on a personal level is pretty cool.

Everynight since Tom crossed over I have spent listening to all I can find in the form of music and interviews. I know there is a ton of recordings already done that I feel he would want released some day. Maybe when the Heartbreakers can finally take a deep breath and not tear up, they will allow some of those recordings to be released. My heart hurts and the millions of tears I have shed listening. What an amazing human he was and the Heartbreakers as well. I can't fathom their pain and hopefully never live through something like that. RIP Tom! God's speed and tell George and Roy I send my love!

Tom was just like you and I. But he went for his dream and got it and whole lot more!!! What a great life he had!! I was so shocked when he passed. I saw the 40th tour, probably half way through, I never knew he was in such bad shape. I wish he would have taken care of things as soon as he finished the tour, by then his hip was broken!!! He was taking too many meds and obviously not being watched. A tragic ending for a life for a man who had worked so hard all of his life and just wanted to spend time with his family in his last chapter. God bless you Tom! Hope you are jamming with George and all the others!!!!!!

Are you aware that he toured with a Broken Hip on his Last Tour? That never should have happened! Then he got complications and died. He should have cancelled the tour and taken care of his health first! But he didn’t for some reason. Big Mistake! It’s too late now to change it. What are the Heartbreakers gonna do now? Breakup!Theyre done without Petty! He was the main singer and songwriter! RIP
