a lot of the great musician's from that era are very humble. bruce springsteen and bob seger come to mind. they all worked so long and hard to be iconic superstars.

That is exactly the word I was thinking of. And National Treasure. In Japan they deem great artists National Treasures. He's a timeless story teller anyone can relate to on any level.

Tom who is such a giant looks so small around those enormous professional jocks. He really seems happy to be there. Another side of Tom Petty. I just like hearing his voice. I listen to TomPetty radio and even that is not enough. Thank you for giving us this video gift.

Well, in physical stature he was about 5' 10", so under 6'; I remember standing between him and Mike Campbell who was definitely taller; he just projected presence -- and they were truly huge; I noticed that too; but he was so relaxed, I never knew how he did that. Perhaps as he said, anticipating the audience gave him that adrenalyn (sp) boost that carried him through, amazing. I stopped listening to TomPetty radio because for a while it hurt a lot, last year; he was in the air one breathed and there was something good and true in the world that I obscurely felt was momentarily lost, but lately I still pick up on re-runs of Buried Treasure; I think his stint as The Last DJ was probably one of the most thoroughly enjoyable gigs he ever did and what breadth of knowledge. I think of all popular artists he truly belonged to everyone, and continues to; it's a great feeling actually; doesn't matter how old a person is they have been touched by this music.

Tom is totally holding his presence here with authenticity . the others are big physically but you can feel them leaning in to perform for the audience.tom leans back and the audience follows. He has all the power and he makes it look effortless..

Inane banter from sports “personalities”. The same the world over. We have our own particularly banal flavour here in New Zealand. Tom holds his own with the jocks, keeps it humble, jovial and puts everyone at ease. It’s good to be king ...

Well put. That song is on my mind from time to time; I compare it with other versions; I gotta be me (Frank Sinatra) Jacques Brel, If I ruled the world, etc.; this version was definitely And Now for Something Entirely Different. Great comment.

Tom was so humble in this setting but I am glad they knew they had a true Icon in Tom Petty. Manning was born around 1980 I would say so Tom's solo stuff was very good to Peyton, believe me what you hear at 10 years old for me ELO, is very important.

They asked Tom if he and the HBs like Football. All but the drummer are from Gainesville, Fl - in the SEC football is a religion.
Tom was one of the biggest and most beloved Rock Stars in the World and he got all giddy over Payton Manning, that was adorable.

Tom just sits back and lowers the tension in the room by being himself.
