Thanks for watching my 3D Effect in Photoshop video where I show you how to easily create the red and blue 3D effect from classic 3D movies! Also known as an anaglyph effect or RGB split, this 3D Photoshop effect is so easy to create that anyone can do it in 60 seconds or less. You'll find a link to my complete written version and PDF of this tutorial in the video's description above. Leave comments, questions or suggestions below. You know, in all the years that people have been asking me if this effect will work with retro 3D glasses, I never thought to just watch this video with the glasses on.
Question, would this work with retro 3D glasses? I am talking in means for depth, like in old 3D comics and such? Does depth perception on 3D work by how many pixels you move a picture in contrast to another in the background? For instance, let's say you have a layered shot of that man above with an added skyscraper in the background. Would I simply adjust the pixel expansion on one verses another to create a depth? Just curious how it all works, as I am pondering making a 3D cover for one of my albums. Probably have to research elsewhere too. Thanks.
This is super old, but you probably have a white background layer underneath, i would guess, if anyone else ever tries this. If you turned that white layer off you would see just the red like you do here.
I did this but when I printed onto paper and tried to view with 3d glasses, the 3d effect didn't work so well. How can I print my 3d image onto paper so it can also be viewed with 3d glasses with the same 3d effect? Thanks
My RGB channels seem to be reversed. I have to turn off red only to get the effect you have. Is this something they have changed since this video was made?
To get a true 3D effect, you would need to place different elements in the image on their own layer and apply the effect to each layer, adjusting the amount according to how close or far away you want the element to appear. But it does work.
i need a little help, every pic I try to edit, doesn't change color, it stays the same, they used to change a couple months ago (haven't used PS in a while)
Applying the effect to a flat image will only create the general look of the 3D effect. To make different elements in the image pop out more than others, you'll need to place them on separate layers and then adjust the effect accordingly for each layer. I hope that makes sense.
Technically, yes, this 3D effect will work with those old red and blue (cyan) 3D glasses. But for a true 3D effect where different parts of the image appear closer or farther away than others, you would need to separate those parts onto individual layers in Photoshop and then apply the 3D effect to each layer separately. So it can be done, but it will require layers, selections, and time.
Red, green and blue are the primary colors of light. Photoshop mixes red, green and blue to create all the colors you see in the image. Your computer monitor, phone, tablet, tv, and every other type of display also create all the colors you see on the screen by mixing red, green and blue.

my backround is Cyan when I click off the blending options, any idea why?
same
your document is probably in CMYK and not RGB. Go to Image>mode and change to RGB then redo the steps.
@@nyoung23 my image is already in image but i still see my brackground CYAN
It looks like that but once you move around the layers it should look like in the picture.
This is super old, but you probably have a white background layer underneath, i would guess, if anyone else ever tries this. If you turned that white layer off you would see just the red like you do here.
please make a video to do 2 image with the red and blue effects thanks
But I Want The 3d Effect on the right and left not on the middle how to do that??
I did this but when I printed onto paper and tried to view with 3d glasses, the 3d effect didn't work so well. How can I print my 3d image onto paper so it can also be viewed with 3d glasses with the same 3d effect? Thanks

You the Steve Patterson? from CBC's The Debaters?
Nope. I'm the funny one. :)

Super helpful and clear narration, cheers!

how do you do it with a text?
I can't get this to work in elements 14. There is no bleeding option.
Please note that this tutorial is for Photoshop, not Photoshop Elements.
Anyone know if this effect actually works with 3d glasses?

Hi . please . Is it possible. Make . Video . Experimental 5. As an example .. Thank you ..
I suggest you desaturate the image. Anaglyph work better with grayscale photo.
