The Toyota Vios hardly needs any introduction. It's the country's best-selling car after all, but does it deserve to be this popular in the first place?

I like the way your intonation drops in every period. Saan part ng Pinas ang accent na yan?

I can’t believe this is the Gen 4.5 already. The prev model just looks like a Gen3.5 and only outside aesthetics were changed.

Love this review. It highlighted the difference the "10-speed" CVT makes. A lot of people say this is overpriced, well yes, especially knowing that some compact crossovers are below the price. But comparing to the G variant of the vios, it is a steal.

Paano nila malaman na 10 speed yun tinawag nga cvt kasi variable speed nya, paano mo ma shift yun sa gear 7 or gear 8? D tulad sa manual na Alam mo Naka 5th gear ka or 3rd gear.

Hmmm, what if Toyota makes GR Vios AWD, featuring the same technology and engine as the Toyota GR Corolla and the GR Yaris. That Vios could be cool 🔥

So what car do you think is better overall, the 2021 Honda City RS or the 2021 Toyota Vios GRS? Thanks idol!

My advice will depend on a person's budget. If the budget is under P900K, we'd prefer the Honda City. The base S CVT (also available in MT but loses the 8-inch touch screen) starts at under P900K, and it offer much more features and a more powerful 1.5-liter engine compared to an equivalently-priced 1.3 E or 1.3 XLE.
If the budget is above P900K, our decision inside our team is split. The Vios 1.5 G MT/CVT Vios and City 1.5 V CVT both have more or less the same features but with different priorities. The Vios 1.5 G sets itself apart with its full LED headlights, while the City 1.5 V CVT has rear aircon vents. Whichever of these two features is better will simply depend on the buyer.
If the budget is over P1 million, we'd recommend the City RS. Compared to the two vehicles at least, it's one of the most well-equipped subcompact cars on sale right now. The City RS stands out over the Vios GR-S with its rear AC vents and rear 12-volt outlet. But other than that, the two variants are almost on par.
Though at this point, we'd also like to mention the all-new turbocharged Nissan Almera. We're going to get our hands on one soon so we can't say our full verdict yet. At least in top trim N Sport trim, it's the most fully-loaded subcompact sedan on sale right now, complete with automatic emergency braking (even the mid-level VE has this), blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, 360-degree camera (also on VE), just to name a few.

@@GoFlatOutPH I'm torn between the GR-S & the RS. Though the City's more equipped, has 14 horses more, a modern steel metallic color option & with only a 38k price difference, I still can't decide which to get. I dunno pero parang "rare" ang dating sakin ng Vios GR-S kasi sa totoo lang I haven't spotted one with my daily drive from Marikina to my clinic in Manila. Isaac, which has a pep-ier acceleration & better-er driving dynamics?

@@fritzsumulong5680 same. Was choosing between rs and grs. I ended up picking up grs. You know what, ive never had an experience driving with a grs next to me. It's like im the only one in the area with this car and pag napastop sa traffic light, or sa village, it turns lots of heads. They're amazed it's a vios. They didnt see that coming.

Car reviewers (ex. Caco Tirona, Top Gear Ph reviewers) prefer the Honda City over the Toyota Vios.
Still, an overwhelming number of Filipinos (even if you discount the companies that purchased the Vios as taxis) purchase the Vios over the City. Why?
It's like the case of San Miguel Beer and Ginebra in the PBA. Usually the SMB players are better than the Ginebra players, but an overwhelming number of fans support the Barangay team.
Just can't help but make that analogy whenever I think about the Vios-City rivalry 😃

ikr when it comes to other brands napaka nitpicky ng mga filipino kesyo walng feature sa ganto, ganyan. But when it comes to Vios ok lang lahat kahit puro plastic, no rear ac vents, no cup holders at the back etc...kasi t0yOTa dAw mAtIbAy daw 🤪
