  • In this video, I share my thoughts on the new square bases for Warhammer the Old World (like the new 30mm square base) and talk about how older models rank up on the newer bases.

I’m dipping my toes into Old World! I’m doing the beastmen and I recently picked me up a box of gors, I ended up going on Amazon and picking me bases because at my warhammer store here the price for a 100 pack of 25mm bases is kinda wild, but regardless I’m hyped!

@@TooMiniModels hell yea they’re badass and their rules seem pretty thematic for Beastmen

I ordered 100 piece of 25mm squares from wargame base world for about $8 shipped. They’re nearly identical, the corner slopes just aren’t razor sharp

I'm liking using mdf bases for square rank and file toops.. they line up completely flush with one another, 3mm thickness is perfect and it is easy to drill the center and glue a perfectly flush magnet in it which requires zero work to keep them in the base, no epoxy or gel glues because its sealed in the mdf. They also look very aesthetically pleasing when based up with no noticeable gap.. and its dirt cheap as well, like 8 bucks per hundred perfectly square and available in every size imaginable

Big bases do look better, WHFB was too crammed. I just wish the 30s were 32s so you could accurately rank up AoS models.

Good point, but also bear in mind AOS was probably designed with skirmish formation in mind, if poses are too dynamic and or the models are holding weapons horizontally, it becomes very difficult to rank up, even with bigger bases. The savage orc spearmen holding his spear horizontally was very hard to rank up even with a bigger base, just not impossible like before. Thanks for the comment!

With ranked up units is it not best tou use movement trays or other unit holders (a big base for the unit with the models individually based on it)?

Unit trays or movement trays are pretty popular for this kind of game

It should also make it easier to use some of the newer models that got released with aos. (For example the new ardboys, I’ll be using as my black orks)

The bigger bases are much better. I might be rebasing my Bonesplitterz for TOW too, I think they're getting kicked to legends in AoS.

I've ordered a bunch of 3rd party 30x30mm and 30x60mm bases for no other reason than GW didn't have theirs in stock. I feel like this wonky launch of TOW is leaving a lot of money on the table. Bad idea to launch a game and not have goods on the shelves while competitors do.

Yes, at least they will be included in the new kits, I just really wanted 30mm bases for my savage orcs.

I wish they would rerelease 25mm slot bases, the Chinese ones are not as good

More hoops and obstacles for gamers to have to comply with. More money to have to spend to transfer your minis from the 90's to the new bases. I'm glad I walked away from warhammer after 5th edition. A hobby shouldn't be a headache costing a small fortune.

the sheer stupidity of GW never fails. Could have been 32mm > which would match their round 32mm but no, let's do 30mm lmao

I think this was done to stay consistent with the intervals of 5 like the other square bases.
