thats the essence of Hip Hop, it doesn't get more pure than this. I saw this in the theatre in 82(or 83) and I still feel the same vibe today when I see this. PURE HP HOP!!!!
True that. No N or H words just about the music. I always thought the woman is Blondie on her way to making Rapture.
What is so sad is that this movie is the cornerstone for an original American art form, and true to western culture (capitalism), the idea of not being able to clear a sample “The Mardi Gras” by Bob James, because of money, comes into play and ruins and re-writes history. This movie is a national treasure. The sample should automatically be cleared due to the global societal impact. Because of this one scene it has sparked a dj movement that audio manufactured could have ever imagined. All these audio companies, turntable, cdj, audio controller, and dj software manufacturers owe it to this film.
Indeed indeed indeed... Think of how much creativity has been hamstrung by corporate interests. It's really a crime. First they cut music programs then truncate any newfound growth like weeds smh
I agree.
You would think that for the sake of an artform that is captured in its purest, most authentic state, as it is in this film, an exception would be made..
They only care about monetary interests.. the collective culture of the people means nothing to them.
Unless theres money in it for them to make
I hate the fact that they took out “The Mardi Gras” from this Mix. Bob James wanted to get paid for his record being in that mix. If it was’nt for grandmaster flash mixing in his record in this scene his music wouldn’t be as popular as it is now. If some of you guys don’t know what I’m talking about find this same mix on TH-cam or on the original VHS cassette of “wild style” and you Will notice that the second record is not the same as it is here. Or you can go to my channel and hear my cover of this mix. As a homage I redid this mix with the original beats and a few extra ones. And I properly named it “Kitchen mix”. Check it out it’s on my channel along with many other mixes such as this.
DJ devil Los On the wheels of steel since 1983...
This was not a problem caused by Bob James.
Take Me To The Mardi Gras is originally a Paul Simon composition and as a song writer he caused the licensing problem.
Yeah it suck for sure....that was the scene apart from the end what everyone talk about
Im about to click on your page..please dont be wack lol
@@Yemsky I figured it had to be someone other than Bob James that sabotaged Mardi Gras from being heard.Because I thought Bob was cool.Shouldve figured it was hatin' ass Paul Simon.
Blame Paul Simon for not allowing Take Me To The Mardi Gras on Wild Style, not Bob James. Paul Simon owns the publishing rights.
It don't get any hotter than this, it's the WildStyle!!

The Hip Hop of the past was bright vibrant colorful and though it came out places that were rough and rough they looked to the future and doing your part to make it better. Then it became about telling their stories and placing that window to their world.
