    • @brentveitch9644
      @brentveitch9644 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Looks like the HVAC Guy's replacement gets installed backwards. You can see the airflow arrow on the original at 1:21 (correct direction into the return) and the replacement filter is installed backwards (arrow is visible at 1:28). That will pull in almost for sure. I don't understand why the original filter was pulled in if not dirty, especially pulling air up (gravity would help the filter retain its shape).

      Looks like 16" flex or smaller. That is 201 square inches. At 144 square inches per ton, that is less than 1.5 per ton. Really doesn't matter how big the return is if the duct is smaller than the return.

    • @achdiagnostic7773
      @achdiagnostic7773 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Come to think of it. Curtis mentioned that the filter was 14x30 which means the duct was 14". Even less return. Static has to be very high. Could improve system performance with more air. Should us an anemometer to measure the average FPM to calculate cfm.

    Customers filters are defective or mislabeled? Look at the mesh and airflow arrow orientation. It looks like you installed the new filter correctly, with the mesh facing in. But airflow arrow is pointing the opposite direction of airflow. That's why the filter sucked in. Something looks off with those filters.

      I thought the same thing, so I'm wondering if the house is under negative pressure. Every time you open a window or a door, outdoor air rushes in, which might explain the dust buildup despite the homeowner changing filters and having someone come in to clean the house regularly. (Assuming the homeowner is honest, and I don't see any indication that suggests otherwise.)
      I used to work for a fried chicken chain, and when I started, I noticed every single filter was caked thick with airborne flour - and every filter was sucked up into the return ducts. I'm not "finger-lickin'" kidding. (Yup, THAT chain.) I was approved to go buy the absolute cheapest filters I could find, and it took over three months of fighting to get repaid for them. Before I received payment, the new filters had already clogged and gotten sucked into the return ducts. Customers were complaining they couldn't get the front doors open, even when the Drive Thru window was open, because the negative pressure was so ridiculous. I quit the night that I was forced to sell cold chicken three hours after we'd lost power, an hour after emergency lighting had failed, and long after the lobby was too dark for patrons to see my face when they walked in the door.
