ANNOUNCEMENT: I was totally misguided about the Isamaya lip balm, apparently "now in a refillable format" actually means "when you buy this $34 product you only get the refill, and if you want the amusing sculptural case you have to spend an additional $100 or have spent $100 previously"
Worth it, if you view some make up products as art pieces. Product is great too. I have the “black honey” type shade. I keep it in my make up bag for work, and I don’t pull it out at work but I smile every time I look in that bag. It’s like an inside secret. Phlur- father figure yes. Have you considered recording an audiobook for Julia Hungry? You have such a calming voice, and I love when audiobooks are expressed with the originally intended emphasis and pacing.
I’m hearing a lot of criticism of Tom Fords new fragrance, solely due to us being in Winter. People do know there is a whole other hemisphere…right? They would be all for it!
I will hold my hand in the air and say this Brit forgot all about this fact despite my little brother living in said hemisphere 😂 but she's right about the resort collections it's hard for me to think about people not layered in blankets and lighting candles right now 🕯️
With tomorrow's prediction of 90% humidity and temperatures around 37C (98F), I so appreciate releases that take into account more than half of the globe.
@@d.-beck7205 Because I’ve seen too much. Everything seems like an essential. I’ve paired down to a large makeup bag, but now I see it as a way to express myself, and it’s hard to go back to a simpler time. I’m in my late 40s, so those simpler times were also when my skin was in its best shape, makeup trends were much slower moving, and also less advertised.
I am also on team Hone In, so I went and looked it up bc I assumed Hannah already had. It looks like "home in" is the slightly older usage (1925) but "hone in" is from the 60's, which means it's not that much newer (in linguistic terms, anyway). So I think they're both fine!
I’ve always say “hone in”, too. “Home in” sounds like baseball terminology (no idea if that’s the case, though) whereas “hone in” means that you’re refining your trajectory toward whatever it is you’re aiming for. So i shall continue to hone.
If that Isamaya lipstick doubled as a vibe, then it would be worth $100 😂, also it's only $34 if you buy it without the sculptural element, so she didn't *really* lower the price
Or you could live in the Southern Hemisphere where Christmas and holidays is about lazing under the air conditioner or by the water as we swelter through 40C degree heat! In which case, Tom Ford Azure Lime might be the perfect scent. As an Aussie, I like that not every release from October to December relates to winter and snow and a White Christmas.
FYI: I ordered this book from Prospector (Denver) Libraries and from Poudre River (Fort Collins) Libraries. They responded with a "can't be ordered until its been published" explanation. So when the book has been published, you might want to remind us again to request from our libraries. 😊
Phlur is an older brand that shut down. From my understanding, it was later purchased by social media figure Chriselle Lim, rebranded, and spiked in popularity due to her gifting campaigns. The old versions were unique and well made. I think the current line is pretty good, but don’t feel compelled to own any. Thank you for bringing us these videos. They are so fun!
On Phlur: as a person who regularly buys fragrance “sample sets”, phlur is the only company where i wasnt repulsed by a single scent. Even ones that werent personally for me I could see how they could be for someone. Its legit, its great, and im sold haha
Hannah I love the extremely rich theory for the Tom Ford fragrance, but I would add that it’s also a good time to release a lime forward fragrance for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere where we have summer holidays!
I think you're right about the Tom Ford perfume, although being South African, I am just happy to see some summer coded products as the southern hemisphere is in Summer atm. Very few brands cater to the southern hemisphere's seasons
personally delighted about the Isamaya balm… i ADORED the look of the balm, especially the black shade, but completely balked at the thought of carrying and applying it from that case in public (i guess put it down to me not having the confidence to be so unabashedly cunty… 😆)
One of my all-time favorite makeup products was a Chanel quint that I bought ca. 2011 and wore almost daily until it was used up. It actually took me about 3 years. Back in the day, I used to buy one luxury product at a time, and use it up. To this day, I'm still a small-pallet person.
Yes. This is the dream. They look so useful for everyday use. When I make my own palettes they're usually 5 colors. I would love Hannah to do like a daily wear kind of look(s) and find the best high end quint for daily autopilot looks, it would be great to have HLP level of detail before spending that kind of money, especially as a fellow 🫒
I am SO UPSET that perfume gives me a headache because I am someone who would feel like the allure of Phlur would have me collecting them all .... Mood Ring... love it!
"Most people are thinking about winter products, but the super rich are on private islands." And some of us are in the southern hemisphere. :) (I put this one down to baby brain. No snark intended; it's the kind of thing I do all the time and I have no baby to excuse it.) So many congratulations on your book. I have pre-ordered my copy from here in Sydney. x
I agree completely, but I think Hannah might be spot on with Tom Ford specifically - they seem like the brand that might forget the summer side of the planet exists, but could definitely believe everyone goes to the Caribbean in January… They don’t give the impression of being very down to earth!
@@Cascadeis i don't know why i have this impression, but i feel like the tom ford brand might forget anything outside of even NYC exists lol. like you know how you can associate certain brands with a particular region? tom ford is 100% NYC to me.
Hannah, just wanted to say I adore your content. The calm atmosphere, the thoughtful wording, the attention to aesthetics, and the casual vibe are all so lovely. Your videos are perfect to play while I’m painting or cooking. Thanks for all you do, and congratulations on the book!
on Phlur: they were around for a while actually, but rebranded to then come out with the current iteration that’s getting a lot of attention. I have a long-time love with one of their old scents, Hanami, which came in a solid white glass bottle. Their rebrand has made them more colorful and easy to love on social media and I find the scents match - they make very pretty, not terribly complicated scents. However, their new formulas have staying power that varies from “smell in a hug” to “carried away with the wind”. Father Figure is a beautiful scent but imo one of their worst when it comes to weak staying power. I could happily douse myself and then only get hints a couple hours later, which i guess some might like but is sad since you only get the fresh, full scent briefly. I love their $28 trio at sephora bc they make good “touch up when out” scents - fresh, pretty, inoffensive scents that won’t make the whole room smell like a Macy’s fragrance section
Exactly. To hone in on is to focus on it. To home in one means to head toward it (think pigeon). If your substitute word is “focus”, the expression you want is hone in on (or just use focus, lol)
Just pre-ordered your book! Never read, let alone bought, poetry in my LIFE but how could I NOT?! Congratulations on this monumental success xxx What a year it's been for you!
I am in the same boat, well for me I’m an avid reader but have never really absorbed poetry. However if anyone could possibly change that it’s surely Hannah!!!!!
I acquired a PHLUR scent in “Missing Person” and it’s soooo good. Everyone loves it 😂 I actually ended up getting a full size for my mother as a Christmas gift this year. Definitely worth checking out Hannah! I think the scents are interesting and you’d have a lot of feelings lol
“Home in and hone in are commonly confused phrases which both refer to narrowing in on a particular topic. Home in means to locate and move toward something. Hone in means to focus on something.”
FINALLY!!! I have wanted that Isamaya black balm since day one but I refused to pay $$$ for a component in which I had no interest. (:P Grammar) I have been waiting and waiting for the refills. I just paused and bought it lol. Thanks for the update on them!
The covergirl stain was my favorite and only lip product from high school and up through college because I bought so many backups when I was starting to not see them in stores anymore. I'm actually quite excited they're coming back and hope I'm not disappointed by the reformulation that its probably gone through.
I remember lip stain markers! I’m with you, I feel like CoverGirl just discovered they had a warehouse full of these leftover from the early aughts. Beware: the only thing I remember about those lip stains is that they dried out immediately. Like, within a couple of weeks.
Our Hanna over here talking about a dong-styled lipstick with "ELEVATED" and "a GAG gift" "I kind of want one" and oh hey apparently I'm 12 years old again today bc lolllllll.
Joe, thank you for continuing to include the NMHT Song 😅 I love it! As for the "hone in" vs "home in" i personally feel like they could be used interchangeably to some extent! Home in means to locate and move toward something & Hone in means to focus on something. So either way, it works!
I can totaly agree about your thougts to Quintes (of Quatro) Eyeshadow Palettes. I like the idea of simplicity, of something you can use without thinking and without feeling overwhelmed especially in the morning. Thank you Hannah for this video !
Three copies pre ordered. One is for me and the other two are for my two closest libraries. I'm looking forward to spring! Re NMHT, I have a max factor marker pen in a MLBB shade and it beats any lip liner hands down for overdrawing. It looks so convincing. I love it. It's neither very wet nor very saturated and that makes a difference as it stays subtle and doesn't bleed. I wear it now with one of those MAC clickly gloss stick things and am chuffed with that too!
Your book is an great example of how difficult it can be to resist your favorite content creator's paid content. I'm on a non-negotiable no buy due to some *big* surgeries and a broken car. But every time you remind us to preorder, i have to remind myself that long term interest is what keeps books in print after the initial release. It is okay not to buy something right now, and sometimes I have to breathe through that truth.
i bought the isamaya lip sculptural piece (lol) and love it so much.. its super heavy and feels expensive. I got the purple one that contains 'vanity', the darkest shade referenced in this vid. Used it to the nub. actually need to buy a refill. I also used up all of my Black Veil lip gloss. Last thing I purchased was the wild star face stick... forget what its called. kind of too glittery up close but veryyy pretty golden glow from afar. dont use it much because ive been into more silvery/cool tones lately. but the gold looks gorg with both purple/black lip products from isamaya. love the brand!
Okay yes totally agree about the cover girl lipstains, they're straight from the oughts. BUT I STILL HAVENT FOUND ANYTHING I LIKED AS MUCH as a particular Revlon marker stain in the 15+ years I've been searching since it was discontinued. So. Imma try 'em. 🤣
Hannah, I preordered a few days ago and I’m so excited for you! I feel like I know a little about your struggle with rejection of your work and I’m so glad your dreams have come to fruition!
Thanks! Just ordered the Chardonnay plus a sunscreen sampler they had on their page for a friend who guilty pleasure is lip balms so hoping she’ll love this…and she’s excellent about actually using sunscreens instead of being like me and simply acquiring them… so double thanks! Two excellent little gifts for a most excellent friend!
Thanks so much for the reminder on the pre-order window. I was one who experienced the crash, but went in the other day and I was able to order a copy of your book. I recently found your channel when looking into no buys/low buys (which I plan to do in 2024). In one of your older videos you mentioned Robert Hass’ poem “The Feast”, which I love! Your channel reminds me of just how much I love poetry. Congrats on your book…and I LOVE the illustration on the cover!
Phlur is really great. I remember when I first smelled Apricot Privee, I was like A BETTER ITERATION OF TOM FORD BITTER PEACH and it actually has some lasting power. And yeah, Father Figure is great (Kackie would agree). A lot of people rave about Missing Person and Not Your Baby. Its honestly a really cool fragrance house and I’m into what they’re doing.
Do a phlur review! Phlur is actually not that new, but they rebranded recently. Their perfumes used to be in an opaque very architectural bottle and they only had a few fragrances. I think the company switched hands. Not sure, but it's exploded now, they put a lot of money in the rebrand and they keep releasing new scents like really really fast. But if you do a review plz take a look at the older scents too, hanami is fantastic but after the rebrand the really pushed the original frags back in a corner which is a shame (they still sell them, rebottled etc)
PHLUR is totally worth a visit. Their fragrances are special & nuanced. The Current crush candle is not worth it. Putting mine away until summer when I can burn it outside. It's so strong & so sweet.
OK - so much delight to unpack - your realization about Tom Ford and the "wintering" crew, the Plur 'now i get it because I hear it', - the scandalization of a wordsmith over pigeon going home - I LIVE! Thank you so much for brightening my day. With the exception of that Chanel quint (because I'm a bougie basic B) you're right - it's all ridiculous or a snore!
Hannah, I would love to see more fashion content. I subscribed to your channel because I thought you were a slow fashion advocate and I'd really like to see more content in that vein. Thanks! ❤
I STILL have two of the Marc Jacobs clicking glosses and use them 😂 so when you said they’re back in style, I was like…when did they go out of style…I’m a millennial who isn’t on TikTok ok.
I haven't been a perfume person, but I'm loving everything from Phlur. Fell for Missing Person, but did feel like it didn't last very long...got a lot of compliments on it however. Now I'm wearing Father Figure every day and I've never had so many people want to smell me!
Phlur is my favourite perfume house! Apart from the fact they are cruelty free, which is a very big plus for me, their scents are incredible. My recommendations are Missing Person, Lost Cause and Solar Power!
I like “hone in on” though! Like focusing on something with the sharpness of a cutting edge! “Home in on” seems diffuse and more like bumbling toward something from a wide persoective while “hone in on” feels like a more surgical, high beams pinpointing of something while looking keenly and closely. 😁
I actually love Phlur lotions. I started out with the perfumes because I find they are lighter fragrances so they tend to be good for everyday and have a “ skin scent” vibe. The lotions are really hydrating and I never expected the formulation to be so good from a perfume brand. I am around people who get migraines from fragrance and I can use their products around them safely.
❣️📚 Just preordered your book! I’m not really a lover of poetry, if I’m being honest, but I love you and am very happy to support your biggest dream ever finally coming to fruition! I’m SO thrilled for you and couldn’t help tearing up as I watched your ‘Literally the best news in my entire life’ video. You so deserve this! And that’s just based off your endless perseverance, your authenticity and your grounding appreciation and gratitude in life. So so happy for you, Hannah
If you're still curious, I LOVE Phlur as a brand! I have somebody wood, apricot privee, and tangerine boy and I can't wait to sniff mood ring. Missing person has been their big guy but I'm apathetic to that one. However, scents are always personal but you can trust the brand. Great scents, good sillage, good lasting power. Glorious.
I have been so intrigued about Phlur’s scents. I recently bought my teen daughter the trio sample set for Christmas, that has the scents, Missing Person, Tangerine Boy, and Solar Power. I just received them a couple days ago, and I had to smell them. Let me tell you…every one of those scents smell absolutely freaking amazing!! Tangerine Boy is probably my favorite. It has a really great, mouth watering, fruity tangerine scent. Missing Person is so unique, a strange, old fashioned type scent. Solar Power scent is strange, indescribable, but also great!
Phlur has a “farewell” section on their website with some fragrances and candles for half off because they’re being discontinued.. Ameline & hanami are great scents even without them being half off but I think you should check them out
hone in and home in are both equally used, according to my reserach ;) Definitely always heard people say "hone in on" not "home in on". English second language fluent speaker here.
You should absolutely give Phlur a chance. Their perfumes are unlike anything I’ve ever used. I like that they really enhance your natural scent and don’t feel like they’re trying too hard. They are timeless and classy. My favorites are Missing Person, Solar Power (good for summer) and Father Figure.
I suppose, Hannah, minis are helpful if you want to experiment with a certain product, either for colour or formula, and do not want to spend on a full size price. MAC had been doing this with their lipsticks for a long time. I know what you mean in that the minis are fiddly and can get lost in storage. The new releases has definitely been mehh to my mind.
I didn't love the most overhyped Phlur fragrance, "Missing Person" so I've been pleasantly surprised to find that I LOVE a lot of their other scents, especially their most recent releases!
I just preordered your book. I’ve never read poetry other than for high school. The excerpts on the website are 100% your voice… like listening to your hot takes but with way more thought 😊

i bought the isamaya lip sculptural piece (lol) and love it so much.. its super heavy and feels expensive.
I feel like I know a little about your struggle with rejection of your work and I’m so glad your dreams have come to fruition!
what were your go-to items on maternity leave? I think this would be a good video!
Oh how I needed this video!! I hope you feel as fab as you look!! ❤
But if you do a review plz take a look at the older scents too, hanami is fantastic but after the rebrand the really pushed the original frags back in a corner which is a shame (they still sell them, rebottled etc)
never mind, i jsut saw they discontinued Hanami and all the original fragrances. wow, i'm so bitter about this...
Thanks! ❤
So excited for my copy of your book to come! Also, those are awesome earrings!
I STILL have two of the Marc Jacobs clicking glosses and use them 😂 so when you said they’re back in style, I was like…when did they go out of style…I’m a millennial who isn’t on TikTok ok.
Love your take on Tom Ford Azure Lime! Hysterical because its true❤
It's Summer in the Southern Hemisphere, I'll take that to mean we are relevant down here & the perfume release is for us 😂❤
I haven't been a perfume person, but I'm loving everything from Phlur. Fell for Missing Person, but did feel like it didn't last very long...got a lot of compliments on it however. Now I'm wearing Father Figure every day and I've never had so many people want to smell me!
best way to end the day, a new makeup hot takes and my preorder placed. can't wait for new reading material in March!
Phlur is everything!
I really enjoy Phlur fragrance. Specifically Missing Person and Father Figure. George Michael nostalgia while applying my perfume! 😂 🎶🎤
Phlur is my favourite perfume house! Apart from the fact they are cruelty free, which is a very big plus for me, their scents are incredible.
My recommendations are Missing Person, Lost Cause and Solar Power!
I am in love with Phlur’s Missing person. So if the notes intrigued you take the plunge most of the fragrances have a travel size . Maybe start there
Mine is already ordered! I can’t wait to read your poetry! ❤️❤️❤️
Glorious.
southern hemisphere is heading to summer
I feel great about Phlur, been loving Missing Person and plan to try more 🌸
Love Phlur. They’re discontinuing my signature fragrance (Ameline, think glossier you but also floral). I say give them a try!
Hone in on also works because it means to go directly toward something. Gatta defend my sense of reality 😂
I absolutely love these videos of yours ! You inspire me
Re: the TF scent. There is also half the world where it’s summer and we are all wearing summer scents now.
I am homing in on a preorder ❤
idk, to me - one of the 10% of the world's population who lives in the Southern Hemisphere - Azure Lime sounds great right now, lol.
Phlur has a “farewell” section on their website with some fragrances and candles for half off because they’re being discontinued.. Ameline & hanami are great scents even without them being half off but I think you should check them out
Ameline is my favorite 🎉
I'm here so early the takes are literally on fire
hone in and home in are both equally used, according to my reserach ;) Definitely always heard people say "hone in on" not "home in on". English second language fluent speaker here.
You may not be rich, you MAY live in the southern hemisphere... It's always summer somewhere... 😶
That top though 🥰😍 girl!!!
And the earrings ❤
Always The Best commentary!
OMG I thought it was “HONE in on it” too!! I am so shocked haha!!
I just purchased the your book and I’m teeming with excitement over receiving it! Thank you for the gentle reminder. I’m sure it will be brilliant!
Ohh!
I had no idea I struggled with pre-ordering your book bc the site crashed 😂 I did keep the site pulled up and was able to pre-order that evening
I put a reminder in my calendar and managed to get my preorder in a few days ago! I'm really looking forward to it
Your shadow matches your lip colour perfect and looks super prwtty in you❤
Always a highlight to see a HLP alert 😊
I just preordered your book. I’ve never read poetry other than for high school. The
excerpts on the website are 100% your voice… like listening to your hot takes but with way more thought 😊
Thank you for the reminder about the book, Hannah. I got my order placed.
Home in vs hone....learn something new every day.
