Thankfully, I watched 'Atonement' before seeing this video, otherwise my experience with the film would have been ruined. The film was surprising to me ultimately, although there are clues throughout the film that do indicate something is not quite right. On a side note, while Saoirse Ronan was in America for the Oscars the following year, I found her family's collie dog Sassy and was able to return Sassy to the Ronan family through the Irish Blue Cross veterninary charity.
That's not what she meant. It was more about her not feeling that she sufficiently 'knows' Briony 3. In the book the 1999 section is much longer and revealing.
Yeah i thought that was very dumb of her...also when she didn't get why the war scene was there..i was like..god...isn't the contrast between him being in the war instead of being with Cecilia enough?...and i read the book. I also thought the confession in the end was great..and hardly anyone would be the same at age 77 when compared to themselves when they are 13 or 18!!!..very huge gap!
I think what she meant is what does have to do with the story..but still taht stumped me too..and that said after she read the book too..how weird is that?
Think Julie is right about the war scene it doesn't work for me. John Harris sums it up in a way because it is an example of the director getting to show off his talent, and that's the problem because it is a show off moment which lacks heart or narrative purpose. If it wasn't so long then maybe it would have worked better.
It's most unsurprising that the always unashamedly posh and mushy Myerson, loved the first part of the film - a repressed love story set in a big country house. I do agree though that the part set in the war does lose my interest and feels a bit inconsequential, with that masturbatory tracking shot serving no real purpose other than an aesthetic one.
I want Newsnight Review back on television, what's the matter? Is there no books, films, exhibitions worth talking about?
I agree. The great tom paulin needs to be back in air
There's many reasons for the war.
The main thing that springs to mind is would Briony have written atonement had Robbie not died in the war?

what does she mean by "why was is there?"
its the reason they get seperated....and she says she read the book?
Something tell me shes a bit silly.
Isn't prison (or rather Briony's 'sin') the reason they get separated? She makes a good point!

Kirsty looked stunning as ever.
the woman in the pink dress is just being critical for critical sakes

Thanks!!
Well, what about Atonement? She says she likes it very much, right?

Good point! I did an edit. :)
Not true. At no point does she exhibit any such ignorance - let alone 'obviously'.
