karma yoga is the most effective and needed in this age. detachment from the fruit of actions or rather to not let the mind run off into the future and keep it centered in the present is a tremendous sadhana for spiritual growth and creates the base for higher levels of self mastery. i would say every other yoga prepares us for karma yoga. gyan yoga builds the power of awareness and intellect, bhakti yoga builds the power of surrender and detachment and kriya yoga builds the power of will, strength and control over our vital forces. All these 3 qualities are needed to excel in karma yoga and be victorious in our internal and external battles and burn off the highest amount of karma possible so that our soul can evolve into a higher lifeform.
