Hello Spencer, old timers say to use the catfish slime in the finned hole and the same antibodies that work for the fish work on the fin wound. I’m an amateur at best and have gotten finned while cleaning them and it’s worked with no infection or real soreness. I guess the web of our hands are vulnerable because of how we hold them

I was about to say something along the same line.
I seem to remember that the small young catfish about the sins of your palm always seemed to hurt the wrist to me, but smear the slime all over it, and you truly all but forget about it in no time at all.
Hopefully the youngster will read our little bit of ancient lore, or backwoods medicine.

Do you know Spencer, when I was a kid many years ago. I jumped into a boat to go out fishing. Not realizing that there was a bunch of catfish down in the bottom of the boat. Well, I ended up getting the door open in the bottom of my foot went all the way through. Ended up going to the hospital and they had to remove it surgically. Not smart painful though.😊
That's the best place to catch and cook because that's the only way to get food. Love that stuff.

I definitely got a couple ideas for my kayak. Little channel stuck me a week ago. Being on blood thinner I’m glad it didn’t bleed much. As always the kayak videos are my favorite. Tight lines!

Sooo I’ve never tried this, but you got me thinking. When I moved to Maine I noticed a lot of guys using these like, o-ring clip rings. They use them a lot while striper fishing. This way they can easily switch out lures. They hold 50lb stripers. So it seems like you already use a swivel that stops your slide sinker. What about using those clip rings with a hook tied on the other side, then just clipping it to the swivel? It seems easy enough. If that clip ring can hold a saltwater striper, it can hold a flathead.
Spencer, for my likes, you make the best catfishing videos; I could watch them all day. Everything about you (other than constant fishing), screams married man. Your rugged good looks, your yard, garage and house all look like a gorgeous wife & handsome kids are just off on the side.
Can you fill us in any more on your background? My wife would never have put up with me fishing 10% of what you appear to fish. Do you have another career, or do you guide full-time?

Hope the hand heals up Spencer. Small packets of vinegar from fast food joints work in a pinch, not quite as effective as rubbing alcohol but good enough if you need something on the way home. I grab a bunch (and a burger) and keep them in my vehicle/tackle box.
Those are my go tos for yellow fly bites is SC. Suckers will put a whelp on ya.

I know all too well about getting poked by catfish,but my worst one ever was from a huge Chinook salmon with big ol gangly teeth 🤣 sucker swiped his head toward my hand when I was trying to take the hook out and he got me good!! That hurt and bled like crazy,and yes it got infected...because I had no first aid on my camping trip.Never again did I leave home with out at least something from the kit 😂 Thanks dude for the video 👍

Nice fish Spencer! Looks like a great float capped off with a beauty flathead. I find up here in Michigan the scorching weather really turns on the flatheads, and makes them less nocturnal.

All you need is super glue. I used it lots times after cagefights. Now that I'm long retired I still used it when I get cut.... Bonds skin immediately

Definitely my favorite way to fish!
My buddy got fined by a channel cat recently. I learned he’s a tough sob. When I say fined, it went into the webbing of his hand palm side, and he said he could feel the tip on the skin of the other side, it was buried an inch deep, and his non shanked arm shook with the amount of tension he put on the fish to rip it out. He help paper towels on it for awhile and insisted we don’t need to go back to the ramp. Worst I’ve ever seen no doubt.
I harvested a 6lb flathead Saturday night . Tonight it is flathead belly fillet for dinner. When i get finned it seems like its always the bullheads.

Took the boat out to a big lake last night trolling:. Well long story short lost a $300 setup… somehow I hooked it through heavy winds coming in. Quite the night and most expensive catch I’ve ever caught.
I caught a little channel cat (no more than 12”) the other day and as I tossed it back it decided to flop. When it did it sliced my thumb right next to the nail deep enough that I had to cut off the chunk of skin to keep it from snagging on everything.
I do hate getting stuck by a catfish. I feel your pain my friend
Our rivers all over WI have been around flood stage forever and now its 90+ with a heat index of 100 degrees... Count yourself lucky you have fishable monsters right now!
It's definitely a nice change of pace from the last 4 years. I'll be heading up there if the water ever drops.

Man I think I was 12 at the time as well and I had a channel cat do that exact same thing and stabbed me through the webbing between my thumb and index finger and I have since then met several other people who have almost the same scar as myself and that was 40 years ago! Anyway, I had no first unhook myself from the fish and then I had to unhook the fish. Meanwhile I lost like a gallon or so of blood all over the place... boat and seats and gear and my clothes and everything 👍. Was awesome let me tell you!! And ohhh yeah I definitely ate it afterwards hahaha. Love your vids man 👍✌️😎
Those sail cats are mean too. I had two different buddies take me out when I lived in northeast Florida and I saw the one get finned, but the other wouldn’t even let one in the boat. It got him in the foot and he couldn’t walk without real pain for a week
@Spencer! I know it's not your norm, but would you show your creekside cat cleaning? Those of us big on yak fishing can always use a few pointers, especially if it's down and dirty! 😉 😜
Bud, you and I are alike, I refuse to use snap swivels for anything for that very reason. Once I learned to basic palomar knot and snell knots, that's all I used until I started fly fishing heavily, then your typical double surgeon's knot or the blood knot and the good ole clinch or pitzen knots.
A good knot is stronger than any contraption in my opinion, and if you're good at tying them, it's not much slower. Thanks for always watching man!
Nice flatty in the small of a stream also side note spencer you should carry hand sanitizer with you for cuts and such burns like hell for about 30 seconds but would have killed any bacteria in the hole I do it all the time and so far have not got an infection just a thought Spencer stay safe out there

Find some holes in that clay bank , flathead are in there. Friend Pulled two 30+ pounders out this weekend. Same climate as you well at least close enough central illinois. In a medium size creek.
They definitely like to spawn in those, it's just hard to target them in there cuz there's no clear spot to cast. At least for ignorant anglers like myself.
@@RiverCertified well, your far from ignorant. Lol we run trot lines and bank poles. My friend stuck his hand in the hole and pulled it out. We call it hogging, most call it noodling though. I think hogging sounds tougher. Lol
I was fishing miles below Texoma dam. I figured out a pattern that the catfish were eating wild grapes , that hung down into the river. Every wild grape plant, I would catch 4+ blues and move to the next one. They were full of grapes when I cleaned them. I am not leg pulling either.

Its funny how those dip holes don't bleed right away. I had a drywall saw stabbed me so deep I could see my bone. Didn't bleed for like 3 minutes then the floodgates opened
