Jane: I started flipping homes over the last two years and have watched all of your videos. Your relaxed and detailed instructions are spot on. You have not only saved me thousands of dollars, but have instilled the confidence in me to tackle every obstacle that I encounterd on each and every home that I flipped thus far. I really think you should have your own show on HGTV or perhaps a few books. Dan from Pittsburgh -

I've watched several videos on this subject. Yours is by far the best. Others are showing you cutting from the laminate side, requiring a special blade with the teeth that cut on the down-stroke. Since my counter tops have the integral backsplash, it would get a bit tricky when cutting at the back. I'm still going to put tape down on the top (laminate) side as a precaution, but I am much more at ease with cutting it this way. Great tip on the scrap piece to hold the center so it doesn't break off near the end of the cut! Leah, all the videos I've watched of yours have taught me something. Keep the videos coming. You're a jewel!

Many talented people are not also good instructors. You've explained this task very clearly and simply to we novices. I appreciate that you let us know what size drill bit and type saw blade to use. You also made sure we understand why you are doing something a certain way. Give yourself a big pat on the back for me! Thanks!

I need to enlarge a hole for my new-to-me sink and I'm watching a bunch of these videos - and it isn't until I watch this video that I learn about the right blade to use, screwing in that board to help keep the edge clean, not to mention that it is indeed okay to cut laminate side up... after 12 videos, this is the most helpful. NOW I feel like I have enough information to proceed. Awesome how-to video! Thank you! I haven't looked at your other videos YET, but I'm hoping you cover plunge cutting and some joining techniques, or take that as a suggestion. :-) Clear, concise, and thorough video! Thank you!

Just wanted to add that my upcoming project involves relaminating a countertop with an existing sink. After watching your video, I had an idea. I'm going to make a cutout to fit inside the void where the sink goes and attach it with boards from underneath. This way, I can glue and cut the formica with something behind it instead of an empty space. Getting it flush may be a challenge, but think it's doable. Your board on top of the cutout gave me this idea.

Leah what if you don't have a template to use to mark out the the cut and all you have is the outer dimensions of the sink it self. How much would you measure inward so it will fit and not hit the inside groove that you attach to the counter underneath to hold the sink in place on a 22 x 33 inch double kitchen sink. Is it 21 3/8. X 31 3/8

I’m replacing my laminate top on a countertop that is already installed. When I put the laminate sheet over the top of the counter where the sink would go, would it still be best to use a jig saw to cut out the hole for the sink even though I won’t be cutting through anything more than laminate as the wood portion of the countertop was previously cut out?
