Ohhh the stainless sink!!! I only fit these every sodding time at work... (council houses) must have put in nearly 1000 of these! Full of greasy slime out the factory and sharp as hell! 🤦♂️ nice video though dude! My way is to mark it out drill the corners out with a spade bit matching the radius of the sink corner... then plunge saw the strait bits near to the corners then finish off the corners with a jig saw 👍
You are crazy getting your fingers that close to the circular saw blade. Blades do jam.
A router is always the cleanest way to cut worktop - good brave effort freehand too James ha! (I’m not a chippy / just a keen DIYer addicted to learning from guys like you and others on here - proud owner of the PlumberParts Diploma in PlumbProud DIY plumbing ha) - but for best results using a router to drop a sink - make / buy a jig (i made one out of 6mm MDF) - use 1/2 inch shank worktop bit and drop it about 5mm and cut the outline - then use a rough cut jigsaw blade to cut through the middle of the routed channel to get rid of the bulk of material, then pass the router around again in 10/12mm steps for 3 passes to clean up the cut - makes for a lot less work on the router bit (£15/20 a piece for the trend bits so not cheap) is quicker and saves on dust - first time i did a kitchen Filled up my 20 litre vac with dust just on routing!! - an old boy chippy gave me that tip a few years ago and i haven’t looked back since!!
Neat trick, If your working on a separate worktop (1.5m, 2m ect).
Mark your sink measurements on the underside of the worktop, and cut with a circular blade on the worktop "upside down". The circular blade cuts the enamel on the "right side up" cleanly. Prevents having to use masking tape.

great video as usual - only thing I would suggest is is to take a couple of plunges with the router to final depth - cutting a full depth counter in one cut is likely to burn out the motor quite quickly

Yep that would be the way I would do it, the router just seems pointless when you don't see the cutout. Also using some masking tape helps with the keeping the lines clean and preventing damage to the worktop. I suppose there are many ways you could chop out this hole but using the router seems wasted for this purpose. It is another way but I actually thought I was about to be wowed with some revelation that was a better and easier way to do the job.

Great video. TIP - It’s always good smear silicon into the edge of the cut chipboard to prevent it blowing up(so the chipboard is sealed). Especially on a stainless steel sink which can get condensation in some conditions.

Great vid, tbh its easier on every sink to put it upside down, draw around it then reduce it by 8mm all round. Then cut it out. Just a note some sinks you cant cut it that tight on the corners as you will leave a gap

i'll be honest jimbo, my toes curled a fair bit when you went for that full depth cut with a 1/4" router, could hear it crying in pain. those clips look the business though, hadn't seen them before.
James! In your cylinder video you never spoke about self priming/primatic cylinders! Any perhaps a little mention on how to drain and refill correctly without popping the bubble? Love the vids 🙌
I always find a router challenging to use freehand. There's just such a tiny hole to peer through that's also got chips flying round. They are awesome with some form of template or guide.
As others have said multiple passes will make the router and cutter last longer.
Personal preference for cutouts like that? a jigsaw with T144DP blades from the back of the worktop. Those blades stay remarkably straight.

Good vid, get yourself a straight edge clamp it on and run the router along that. You’ll get a perfect straight cut with the router and it’ll take way less time too.

top advice - thanks - pandemic madness has set in, sine we been shielding for what seems like forever and the mrs wants a new kitchen so this is well handy to keep her calm and prevent her morphing into some sort of dragon thing....

I just use a BIG bit spade bit in each corner and then circular saw the rest. On the bear edge rub on clear silicone or wood glue. Hold tight

Rub some clear silicone in the sink cut out to reduce the chance of it soaking up water
Love it freehand, not dangerous at all haha when it catches your know about it. The machine looks like a blatant copy of makitas laminate trimmer/router , them router bits will last for ages for what your using it for , maybe buy a new fluted cutter every now and then

I have the same problem with the hoover connecting, just fucking annoying what tradesman dosent have a Henry hoover! Why can’t they just make it easy for us. I just cut the end off mine lol fits now but now I can’t use the poles 😂

Hmmmmmm. The only time I'd use a router to do a sink would be if the sink was round.... and I certainly wouldn't do it with such an under powered router 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ nice try though.

Jigsaws are ok onthis depth countertop. Any thickier and they tend to bend a bit. That being said, I'll do whatevers needed to get the job done!
I’ve got a similar Makita copy router and they are decent for the money. Like others have said it’s probably a bit underpowered to do the who sink cutout, better off with a more powerful model with a 1/2” shank. I’m not sure if it’s the camera flipping the image, but I think you’re routing the wrong way, you should work from left to right as the cutter won’t then pull off the line.
I like your vids mate but that was horrible to behold and the noise coming from that router! (speeds and feeds) take a bit of time to learn to use it and you will be smashing those sinks in, no problems.. I would say that at the very least you should use a straight edge clamped to the workpiece and use that as a guide for the router base :)
The router is a good tool once you take the time to set it up....Chipboard kills router bits!!! And the lovely cuddly jokey Germans dont use a Henry Hoover bud.
