Bruins fan here. To piggyback of what Jesse said, I'm not saying the Bruins lost on purpose, but after last year, the importance was placed on staying healthy over winning.
Ya they didn’t go into those games saying let’s lose and play the leafs. Thats bad juju and they know it. They just simply didn’t try very hard like every team in a playoff spot should be doing last couple games.

Holy moly Steve’s monologue from 14 minutes was something else, made me want to run through the wall!!!
To be clear, Torts didn’t pull the goalie during the tv timeout - he pulled Ersson during play with about 3:12 left in regulation, which was roughly a minute and a half after Detroit tied it up. Also, keep in mind that the Detroit game didn’t go to overtime officially until probably a minute in real-time after they tied the game. I think it’s crazy to think Torts tried to “screw” the Pens or the Red Wings.
Torts also said he wasnt going to be paying attention to the other game going on and that he was going to focus all his attention on their game. Guy was 100% playing to win the game whether or not it mattered at the time.

The whole talk about moving Letang or Karlsson, and calling the Karlsson trade one of the worst trades in hockey is just asinine. Dubas moved 3/4 bad contracts, one of which you talk about not 3 minutes later in Jeff Petry, and some picks for Erik freaking Karlsson, and he managed to open cap space while doing so. Letang and Karlsson do their jobs perfectly well. They were not the problem this year. When they’re paired with Marcus Pettersson, they’re just fine. The issue is the second top 4 LD. Ryan Graves obviously ain’t it, congrats Adam, you were right about that. They need another solid stay at home guy like Marcus Pettersson, or like Brian Dumoulin was with Tanger by his side during the Cup runs. Someone that when they’re paired with Letang/Karlsson, allows them do what they do best, drive offense. And as far as the “get real” comment goes, most of Pittsburgh understands where we’re at. It’s about keeping the Big 3 here until they retire, and keeping the team as competitive as possible until then. There’s not gonna be some great big tear down and rebuild until those 3 are gone. We’re gonna be the old team for the next few years because those 3 are old. And that’s perfectly fine. We’ll stay real with the 3 cups and endless success we’ve seen in this era.

I still wouldn't mind moving off Karllsson. I said from the start having 2 Letang pairs was redundant and I'm still not seeing how that actually helped us in any way, since we also doubled up on the games Tanger sometimes gives away... Coulda really used those 6 points Karllsson flubbed... But yes the bigger issues are the unusable bottom 6 and the horrendous goal situation. I'm not depressed, my team was amazing my whole fan career but I wouldn't mind getting in the playoffs just one more time before the era ends =)

Yzerman didn't believe the Wings were a playoff team this year, at least that's what he stated publicly. Wings have gone from 74 to 80 to 91 points in three years.
Couldn't believe it when I saw that the Wings only had 27 regulation wins. 4th worst in the Eastern Conference.

@Lady_Justice yes there was a PILE of OT wins for the wings thus year. I think the wings also had the most puke and rally wins this year. Larkin being injured fur March did us in. We had a 10 point leaf fir the wild card end of Feb.

As a Canucks fan born in the mid 90s, the greatest moment and the one I'll never forget is Alex Burrows game 7 OT goal against the Blackhawks. Chicago beat Vancouver twice, consecutive years, each time in the second round. They owned the Canucks, lived rent free in their heads. In 2011 the Canucks get the hawks again, this time in the first round. Vancouver jumps up 3-0, look like they have the monkey off their backs. Then Dave Bolland makes his return to the Hawks lineup for game 4. Chicago proceeds to win 3 straight, forcing a game 7. Game 7 could have been the ultimate embarrassment, losing a series after being up 3-0, to the damn Hawks for no less. OT starts, Campoli has the puck at the boards and flips it up without looking, Burrows jumps out of the air, places it, and snipes it top shelf on Crawford. Along with it, the greatest call in John Shorthouse's career. The Canucks slayed their dragon, now it's Toronto's turn. You got this.
Montembeault is a better goalie than anyone Toronto has had in a decade.

I quite liked the small bits of Nylander-Tavares-Marner that we saw over the last week or so. They had a lot of dominance in a small sample size.
Honestly the torts conspiracies are going too far, he probably didnt know in time. Even if he did, as we know, often in the NHL when the puck goes in the net, it might not actually be a goal. Maybe there was a review or something. What if he puts the goalie back in, and the goal is overturned in the Detroit game, that might actually get him fired on the spot.
They had to win in regulation, they were going to try damn well to win in regulation, they can figure out what happened to the other teams after the fact.
Not to mention this only matters to those two clubs, neither of which do the Flyers owe ANYTHING to lol

This was said in 2019 because the Leafs played probably worse at the tail end of that season heading into the playoffs. They ended up playing completely different. I wouldn't put too much into these last few games.

Being the clear underdog this year may help Toronto, people are already expecting them to lose but they have an actual better team than the other years with this crew. I think odds are better than any other years where they failed before. Of course the Goalie situation and Keefe being the head coach are still 2 major issues though.

It was Montreal (with the Islanders' help) that gave up Frank Nazar (pronounced 'neigh-tsar') and Gavin Hayes.
If you think Marner is the X-factor to beating Boston you're greatly underestimating Boston. How come they haven't beaten Boston at all this season then?
Caps are the only team to shutout the Bruins. They did it twice.
If detroit decides to shake it up, in the most vulnerable in their rebuild, it might be a catastrophe waiting to happen imo.

The end of the season race was cool but Im not as pissed as last year when they blew it
As a Bruins fan I can tell you with the utmost confidence after watching the last two games, they didn't throw those games, but they sure didn't try to win. They were content to play whoever in the first round and just not get hurt to end the regular season.

Im a Bruins & SDPN fan. I think you guys have been traumatized by the Bruins for so long, you have trouble seeing past the spoked B and actually looking at the team. This is not the boogeyman of years past. Yes Pasta can be a menace but if you smother him, you have a great shot at success. Their defense and goaltending are your biggest hurdles. Like Adam said, the last time these guys met in the playoffs, the Leafs core was so much younger, and facing a better Boston team too. This is a much different scenario.
Also if anyones about to reply with regular season stats, you can stop it there. Dont wanna hear it.

Montreal has a goalie and his name is Jacob Fowler. Gotta Give Jeff Gorton credit where credit is due. He made some questionable moves and picks in NY but his fingerprints are all over a team that just won the presidents trophy and Montreal looks primed to be good real soon

on the point of habs needing a goalie, Montembeault and Primeau actually were having pretty good years at different points in the year and are 27 and 24 so maybe they can still improve and find some consistency, but more importantly, the habs drafted 3 goalies last year. Jacob Fowler who was an all american in the NCAA and was runner up in the frozen four, 2.14 and .926 in the NCAA, Quentin Miller 2.60 and .917 in the QMJHL since joining Rimouski and Yevgheni Volokhin who has a 1.58 and .938 in the MHL. So one of those guys might end up being their goalie in a few years.
Plus Carey Price will come back from his injury right guys... right... guys?
Hey steve, the habs have One of the best Goalie prospects in Jacob Fowler and both Montembeault and Primeau had impressive seasons, i’m not saying any of those guys will become Carey Price level but you don’t need the best goalie in the NHL to win the cup just look at the Avalanche when they won or the leafs who are trying to win right now

as a Bruins fan, I will say, the last two games of the season, I don't think they were playing to lose. I think they were playing to NOT. GET. HURT. Winning was irrelevant. Monty was absolutely not gonna see a repeat of last season, losing Bergeron at the last minute.
