How long did it take? I spent a total of four months building built-in cabinets for my master closet. I had just moved into this house and was working on a lot of other projects at the same time.
Why MDF on one side and plywood on the other? I used MDF initially but the cabinets were so large and heavy, it was difficult for me to install them. I switched to plywood which is much lighter.
What paint did you use? I painted the wardrobes with Sherwin-Williams Pro-Classic paint. Custom color.

Being European I'm not used to walk in closets and seeing a room/space with a window I would have thought of other uses than making it into a closet... I sure as hell like walk in closets as it seems to me to keep them easier organized than a store bought closet that rarely fits the space economically where it is placed. There usually is space wasted and the closet itself doesn't really fill the needs. You have to get additional dresser drawers to get stuff organized.
Anyway, you did a fine job there and I like it very much.

Regina Cauley mine did too but I took it out on this past remodel so I could build my wife a make up area so she could sit down and put her make up on and keep it all in drawers right there

+Laureen Blechman Cause people are handless these days. Using tools to make things for your self seems to be dying out, everything is bought ready made in China and its design to brake sooner than later.
Just pick up your tools, materials and start building stuff. More you do, more you learn, at least from your own mistakes. Materials you can get by dumpster diving and fairly good tools are sold in drift stores, even given free sometimes. People just lack imagination and cant think outside of the box.
I found old TV cabinet with beautiful glass doors from dumpster. I took it home, sanded it down, cut it in half to make it shallow, removed wheels, built sturdy wall hanging system from reclaimed wood, painted it and hanged it as wall cabinet. This cost me about 30€ where similar, shitty China made cost 100€ and just those doors 30€ per one. Use imagination and keep your eyes open ^^

Way too cool. Your video inspired me to build a wardrobe myself once we move into our new home. Most likely I will fail hard due to the lack of time and abundance of other tasks in a new home, but my envy for your work may drive me forward.
It took me 4 months to finish this closet. We had just moved into this home and EVERYTHING needed to be worked on at once. I worked in the closet, then would build out my workshop when I got frustrated by looking through boxes for tools. Little by little I finished both projects and probably 20 more little things that needed to be done to make the house functional. 8 years after moving into that home, I'm still working on projects!

OMG so flipping awesome......i love the design, better yet, I love that a woman created it. M mom and I do wood working as a hobby as well....I took architecture classes and she took wood shop classes when she was younger (high school/college days). It's such a fun way to bond and see how our ideas come to life. We haven't done any projects for a while, but this definitely inspired me to get us back on track, thank you!
