I played in this TATOO 2010 .my DREAM come true. I'm from SOUTH AUSTRALIA. Loved every minute. 🥰
I'm in this video, I was the bass drummer for the Queens Royal Hussars (QRH)
@@liamblackburn4968I found this event(s) researching family history about a month ago and I absolutely love it. It's the best music; you wouldn't believe how much of it I listen too. It must have been such a thrill to participate!!
This Drum Major Brian Alexander my opinion, is the best, most significant, choreographer and martial of all the videos I have seen on the UK military bands - Greetings from Florence
He works at beath high school now
Saw this live, absolutely excellent show. And saw the 2011 live too, it gets better every year, I don't know how they do it, but they do. This is the third live show I've been to. Now I cannot wait for 2012.
The citadel is from the US. Also the marines performed in one of the military tattoo's i saw awhile ago. A great experience all around. It was pretty amazing to be there for this live. Go to Scotland!
Proud of my heritage enough to make me cry of happiness.

Awesome!!!!!! I want to see this live next year. I will be there for it next year. Counting down.
It's such a blessing to be of royal blood, gives me chills just watching this.
thumbs up if you can tell which ones are American like this guy
I'm of Hungarian decent but could never understand my love of the pipes. I actually helped my son's Royal Canadian Army Cadet corp start a Pipe and Drums band a few years back. Then I discovered that my heritage includes the pipes as well. Nothing like the Highland pipes though. I hope that someday my wife and I can visit Scotland and attend this awesome performance. Thanks for the post.
i was there and it blew my mind...when the lone piper played flower of scotland on the castle walls i nearly cried
I'm thrilled, Barry, to receive this wonderful video with which I'll update my playlist "Musiques Interceltiques."..! I hope this fabulous Scottish interlude one day may come and perform in Lorient for the greatest happiness of the Britons!
Barry, compliments for your great youtubesite !
Thank you very much !
Odette
I love this music and ceremony so much!get a proud feeling!
Some regiments are allowed to wear a "feather bonnet" ("bonnet" means "hat") as part of their full military dress, on special occasions, which is a tall hat built on a tall wire basket covered with ostrich feathers. I am an American piper, I own this full military dress including the big feather bonnet. There is indeed a part of the feathers that hang down on the left side of the big hat.Everything about this art is both primitive yet complicated, and very emotional.
herrlich.
danke fürs Reinstellen, habs leider verpaßt.
@WPUpioneer the up-side-down chevrons are appointment badges whereas the right-side-up ones are rank badges. Four stripes up-side-down means Pipe Major/Drum Major or Bugle Major and these people can be anything from Sergeant to Colour Sergeant or even Warrant Officer.
These men look and sound tough. I am still bound to go see this performance one day =D
I love this ! I was there !
I've seen this, I was there this yeart!!! Yaaaay!! I wanna go back!!! :D :D
I just ran across this video today. Bagpipe music is something else. I was just at a local Scottish games this past weekend in California. something else.
Fantastic sight to see with wonderful soul stirring music!
Najpiekniejsza muzyka....i ta kultura ktora z serca wyciska łzy....bylem widzialem sluchalem
Absolutely Awesome!!!
1:57 and 3:39 slippery marching :) ( i've watched it a couple of times :) ) love the change at 3:56 from the blue bells of scotland to the rose of allandale
Yesssssssssss
Going this year, can't wait
It depends enormously on how old you are and what fraction of the traditional art you want to learn. The melodies of these tunes are all very simple on a 1-octave instrument like pipes for a woodwind player to learn. Brass players? Yikes, any woodwind even cheap whistle is going to challenge you. But listen to the quick consonant sounds in this. You can't believe how complicated it is to make them. But if the sound inspires you, try for it, it's a thrill to have this sound around you.
did anyone else see the drummer slip at about 01.58-he recovered well.
Excelente ..................
magnífico... con cada vez siento legría.
Magnificent... with ever I feel joy.
a veil of love
@WPUpioneer The South Australian Police are likely the ones in the green jackets and gold kilts as these colours are generally always used by the Aussies.
fantastic.......
There exists another Black Watch, 3rd Battalion Royal Highland Regiment of Canada, since 1862, in 2012 we celebrate 150 years of service to the Crown and to Canada. We carry on the traditions set forth by The Imperial Black Watch, though they no longer carry the Royal Highland Regiment distiction, we carry on and are the last to wear the Blue Balmoral with red tourrie and red Hackle, Nemo Me Impune Lacessit.
@WPUpioneer The Black Watch is an old Scottish regiment formed originally to "watch" the highlands after the Jacobite uprising and clan fighting. Black comes from the very dark tartan, therefore named Black Watch. Now part of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
Aye and amonst the fiercest regiments in history
My old regiment will be there in June for it's final parade it will be sad but i had a good 18 years.
Now thats what i call music
originally the chevrons reflected the style of the cuffs. French line regiments had squared off cuffs so their NCVOs wor their rank insignia chevrons horizontally or points up. Light infatry had pointed cuffs, so chevrons were points up.
74 & 86 Canadian Argylls
Sends shivers up me spine x
The direction of the chevrons depends whether it is a British regiment or not. The British insignia is down, but the American, Aussie and S. African are up.
BRAVO!!!!!
@0AZ909 Thank you for your kind comment!
MAGNIFIQUE
@WPUpioneer The South Australia Pipers played in 2007, but the South Australia Police Band are due a visit as they haven't been since 2000 and in 1990. I would hope they're planned for sometime soon in the next couple of years. So many acts competing.
wow!!! wanderfull...greetings from villa alemana, chile!!!
Sorry, the part that hangs down is on the right side. The left side has a tall colored rod or stack of different feathers that helps to identify the regiment or band of the piper.
Greets to all scots.
@marton891
From 1966 - 2008, the BBC presentation commentator was Scottish actor, Tom Fleming, who died last year. The last two years commentator has been Iain Anderson, from BBC Radio Scotland.
The men of Scotland are very handsome.
When I turned 18 I was lucky enough to go see the Edinburgh tattoo with my family. Its a brilliant experience :)
Merci !
Odette
I've never liked bagpipe music before, until i watched this, maybe I've just never heard them played really well before, i think i should give them another chance.
That would be one hell of a treat, wouldn't it?
@TheNaughtiusmaximus that's awesome! I didn't even think anybody over there knew about William Paterson U. kind of a small school. I wasn't insulted at all. I had no idea you've been to my university :-)
omg, i have always though of joining the navy but every time i see this i want to join the army immediately.
@bealach thanks for the info! :-)
Would love to see the NYPD Emerald Society Pipes and Drums participate in this.
@WPUpioneer the black watch isn't special forces per se, they are a part of the Royal Highland regiments in the British army. They were formed around the 1880s. Their name comes from their dark tartan and their original role to 'watch' the Highlands.
Its on that day you really want to be a camera man for the Live TV^^
Echt stark was da abgeht
+sempergumby I think you have it mixed up there buddy, Americans wear their chevrons with the point up, where as the British, and former British colonies and such wear the chevrons with the point down. I'm not to sure why this is, but some explanations I have been given are that the Americans wanted to seem more masculine with the forces, and another was that they wanted to distinguish themselves from the English.
but hey, I could be wrong about that last part.
Bad day, pal?
no joke, The old drum major at 1:49 is my grand father
@WPUpioneer pipe majers have the stipes up side dawn cos there are usely a officers rank First band in army in scotland recruted as army police
if anything is from the US, marines are the one's who travel with them and the silent drill team performs.
wowww looks so niceeeeeee :D
Love the drummer who slips at 1:58
Key word ROYAL
if you have the 1999 version of this please let me know!!!!
@bealach its strange not having Ian fleming don't you think?
they did already won
@bealach Its strange not having Tom Fleming don't you think?
You've not seen me in the morning then... :-D
@snipersnake777 Do anything to get there. I went in 2010 and it was the most wonderful experience I will ever have. I am an American through and through, but I am forever a Scot!! Don't ever deny yourself this experience, just go and be there.
ok super ol
too ryt pal
@marton891
yes indeed :-)
Alba Du Brath. Happy St Andrews Day.
Great performance, on a funny note anyone see that drummer almost slip at 1:57? One day i'll be able to watch this.
@myfilms2010 no, I haven't. I'm not from the UK.
why are some chevrons on uniforms right side up, and others are upside down? and does anybody know where the South Australia police are in this? also, who are the "Black watch?" is it special forces?
I missed Mr. Fleming
did anyone notice the little slip @1:58? poor guy :(
Nooo! The guy at 1:57 almost slipped to the ground =o
@shieldwolf49
DVD of complete show soon available from the Tattoo website:
edintattoo.co.uk
@TheNaughtiusmaximus nope. I'm from the US.
Which pipe band was from the United States that was featured in this Tattoo? Such an honor of Scotland to have the US play with them =D
What is the last tune does anyone know? I know he said hornpipe but i looked it up and cant find jak hit on it?? Help would be awesome!
a bit of late reply buddy but it's actually called the banjo breakdown believe it or not :p
you can find some short clips here on TH-cam but they are much better in a set.
Since the red coat was introduced by Parliament's New Model Army during the Civil War in the 1640s, and was chosen purely because of being the cheapest available dye and had no connotations with England or Britain at the time, you'd have to be a time-traveller from the 17th-19th centuries, and you'd have bigger problems!
@YARROWS I agree. I always think of them the same though, it's down to the commentary to keep it alive. It would be good if they could announce the Borderers for example being the Kings Own Scottish Borderers and Royal Scots rather than just Borderers Royal Regiment.
oh and I hail from the cameron clan :)
What tune is from minute 5:22??
The High Road to Gairloch
I just saw some one slipping.....
