20 years for a redemption arc. He finally got it. Well deserved Kratos, The New All-Father, the God Of Redemption.
Edit: Holy. You guys went crazy against me. I may be wrong about the God Of Redemption, so let me refrase it: the reformed God of War. But the new All-Father part I'm kinda right. All-Father means "A supreme being; a god who rules over all others", which basically happens at the end.

It’s sad to hear this line but also nice. I know this guy who has been through so much in his life. He has the worst PTSD i’ve ever seen. I asked him what was the one thing he wanted. He said “I want to sleep.” I knew what he meant. People with PTSD truly are never at peace. It’s sad to hear that Kratos will die, but in the end, it’s good to know that he will finally have peace.

Kratos suffered many things in his lifetime. Loss of his wives, his daughter, his brother, even himself. He became a monster because that is what he was born for. Now he’s finally acquired wisdom to see that he can’t escape his past. To be “Better” he had to accept himself, what he did and show his son that being better means to be brave enough to realize that mistakes happen, what matters is what you do to fix them

It's interesting to remember that this isn't even the first time Kratos sought redemption
The entire story arc between GoW: Ascension and GoW 1 is Kratos seeking redemption for his sins during his service to Ares through service to the rest of the gods.
He frees himself from the Furies, saves Olympus from Persephone, Morpheus and Atlas, and defeats Ares before he can usurp Zeus.
He does all this thinking that the gods can redeem him and free him from his past. But the best they do is arbitrarily "forgive" him and grant him a throne he despises on Olympus while refusing to give him the absolution he seeks.
It's in Ghost of Sparta that Kratos realizes that the game was rigged against him from the start. That all the Olympians were just as cruel, depraved and evil as Ares, they were just better at hiding it. The final straw really was the opening in GoW 2 where after Zeus's betrayal, Kratos clearly snaps. All the nightmares that were slowly driving him mad, the injustice Zeus inflicted against his mother and brother, the refusal of the gods to full absolve him of the sins of a life they forced him into. All of that finally comes to a head and Kratos finally gives up on ever seeking redemption and embraces the monster that the gods turned him into.
That's what makes GoW 2018 and Ragnarok so great I think. This isn't just Kratos trying to seek redemption from his sins. It's Kratos resolving to give redemption another try. But this time, instead of relying on the judgment of cruel and fickle gods, he seeks absolution from within himself by actually trying to be a better person.

Kratos' life can be described as nothing other than a tragedy, he was beaten down mentally and physically until he was able to fight back, and then when he was done with his vengeance, he was empty. He had nothing left. He thought of himself only as a monster and a killer. For possibly thousands of years, until Faye put the final "nail in the coffin" on the god of war, and only Kratos remained. A broken and battered old man, but a broken and battered old man who had something to live for.

Wow. I’ve played every game since PS2. From growing up in a broken home, to anger and unanswered questions and bitterness as a teen and young man, to now as an Army veteran, Kratos and the GOW saga has helped me thru my darkest and toughest times, even still to this day as I grow older and wiser just like him. He deserves it all. This is the best Kratos video on TH-cam hands down. Good freaking job. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for him and Atreus in the near future!

Kratos is the culmination of what it means when a God finds and lives for his humanity. No longer shackled by the “Chains of Olympus” his journey is one of self discovery and self awareness, it’s something that we can all relate to and I am thankful to have been here since day 1 for this amazing story.

I feel like at it's heart, Kratos' story is all about how one deals with failure. It's easy to see him as this all knowing perfect warrior who never makes the wrong choices, but his entire story is built off of his own mistakes. I mean, the man literally wears all of his failures on his body.

I just love how far along Kratos has come. How long ago these games had come out. It has been a worthwhile journey if we're being honest.
    Unpopular opinion:
I love old Kratos, this tranquil mindset, who still forced to follow his paths, but accumulates a sense of better by doing so.
By following his son down his own paths. By being a father that he wished he could of been back then.
He may never truly find redemption.
Kratos has found a family, has found a life. Perhaps even a purpose that may one day lead to greater happiness.
Thank you for becoming the man you are in GOW Ragnarok.

I’ve been a fan of the God of War franchise since I was little. Started off on ps2. Kratos growth as a character is mind blowing. But this video is truly something else. Its the literal embodiment of emotions we feel seeing him redeem himself after everything he’s done and been through all for revenge. I never could have imagined Kratos becoming this sort of character but I’m glad he did.

Cory barlog said he was setting up to an idea that, Athena had died, and was the first person in the pantheons' of gods to actually to have a selfless act. So she would be able to ascend to an higher level.
She would start to begin actious and think she did pretty good until she realized she could actually affect the rest of the world, she didn't want to get anyone onto her level.. That is why if their was no mask Odin would've been able to ascend higher, but the mask was a distraction for Odin, because the mask has Greek writing and Atreus is Greek.
At the end of the first God Of War with Atreus there is a drawing of a snake that goes through both, Kratos and Atreus. It may lead to a bigger title then Norse mythology. We might see Athena kill, Loki, and Kratos with Egyptians.

    What a masterpiece...
Here's what each character taught me:
Kratos has taught me how to strive in hardship and difficulty against all odds while having a strong sense of purpose and principles.
Atreus taught me what Kratos didn't realise until the end of it all: To open your heart to it. He taught me how to listen to my heart and do what is right.
Mimir taught me that the wise are those who know nothing.
Freya taught me to learn how to forgive and forget even when it hurts.
Faye taught me to avoid dwelling on the past and be better than yesterday.
Brok and Sindri taught me the importance of family and brotherhood.
Tyr taught me to achieve peace and showing kindness to the world.
Odin taught me to be relentless in the pursuit of knowledge.
Thor and his family taught how to build strong bonds with family memebers.
Never has a game impacted me as deeply as God of War. It is, has been and will always be the best game I've experienced.
P.S. Sorry if I forgot someone, there's so many intersting people with deep and complex characteristics.

This has to be the BEST video about Kratos on TH-cam, the amount of emotion and understanding here is staggering and hits you in the feels since we all grew up watching Kratos go from a vengeful god, to enacting his revenge of the Greek gods for the death of his family to getting a 2nd chance of being a father and raising a son and trying to make sure he is safe and not show him the horrors of his past, and not only did he do just that, Atreus finally understands what his father went thru and now knows what is means to "be better", the thing that made this game even more meaningful IMO is that Kratos knowing what he has done in the past, just wants to embrace a future where he can live in peace and have his son grow and have a family of his own, I think that's the greatest thing any parent would love, to see their children grow and prosper and learn from their mistakes
