Great video Alice. Really just stumbled upon your channel... I'm in Australia, and I collect magazines too - including fashion or celebrity ones. I am mostly interested in film and music, but if an artist or actress I like is featured on a fashion magazine I'm happy to buy it to read it as well as buying things like 'Total Film' or 'Site & Sound'. I'm male and straight, but actually quite enjoy the fashion aspect too - I have a lot of respect for it.
Condition is everything with magazines, so look after them! I recently bought some magazine protectors (special lastic sleeves basically) to put them in, and you can put backing cards in these also to keep them rigid so that the spines don't crease. These sleeves are commonly made for comic book collectors, but some are magazine-sized, so I am going to give this a go to help preserve the ones I have. I actually have a mint copy of the 2012 Vogue featuring Lana Del Rey that you showed in your video - it's such a striking and beautiful cover image, and she is so pretty. It's also interesting that the more recent fashion magazines cover broader issues affecting women. In a recent issue of Marie Claire I was reading about some interesting topics such as the female Olympians competing for poorer nations, who had nearly died as refugees - only to survive and then make it to the recent Tokyo games. Really amazing stories.
Fashion magazines are a legitimate artform I think, and I really appreciate the huge amount of work that goes into them - even though I know next to nothing about fashion (except what I learning watching 'Project Runway'!). Some years ago I also watched the whole (crazy) series of 'Ugly Betty', and of course have seen 'The Devil Wears Prada' and 'The September Issue' numerous times. You really get a sense for the amount of nuance, art and effort that goes into producing them. It's a great shame that magazines don't have more respect in general, or are considered disposable in a lot of cases. With the changes to the media landscape, we might sadly see more magazines disappear in years to come (as has happened here in Australia - the local editions of both 'Elle' and 'Empire' have recently been closed). It's a great hobby to have, and you have a lot of cool issues. They go up in value over time too, so look after them.

There's a few magazines that were in hibernation for upto a year that eventually returned like Men's Health, Women's Health and Harper's Bazaar. Australia had their own versions of Grazia, Yours and Cosmopolitan which were unfortuately axed. I was shocked when Dolly was axed as well.

20 years from now Magazine's will be out of stock because of collection. . Same us Pokemon cards who will ever think. . Today it sold thousands of dollars. . It just need the right time. . Sorry for the late comment. Just found your channel. I am also a magazine collector. I use the app readly for my weekly magazines and if there is anything I want in them I can purchase them. I also have paper magazines from the 60s and 70s.
Alice, glad I came across your video. Interesting... I have started gathering together (not collecting😉) Vintage Playboy and Vogue magazines with the sole purpose of having them framed... to museum quality... for my cigar room and bar area of our new home currently being built. I have seen the idea in many homes in LA and New York. It certainly has been an amazing journey and finding mint quality magazines suitable for faming has proven to be extraordinarily difficult... and expensive... It's so interesting that as print magazines are dying, as well as the fact that magazines were never designed to be kept, collecting them has utterly exploded.
