    If I was doing the exact fishing you are here, I would swap the bottom stop for some type of line-saver bead like you get in chod-rig set-ups. Then I would probably get rid of the top bead altogether.
    It would make the rig safer, and would stop the line getting damaged by the swivel. As you have it, it's more suitable to silvers.

    • @AnglingDirectTV
      @AnglingDirectTV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Matthew, That would definately be an option. The top bead moves with minimum pressure, it's nice and safe for carp fishing. I've never had an issue with the swivel damage the mainline however, it's worth thinking about and ensure you use a nice robust line. Regards Steve.

    Most commercial venues have a free running rig rule, unfortunately the helicopter rig would be illegal to use.

      Depends on the fishery.

    • @AnglingDirectTV
      @AnglingDirectTV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Chuck, This is certainly something you need to check, if the venue was strictly free running rigs only, I would revert back to the inline set-up. Regards, Steve.

    I've been testing the same rig setup last year, and to be honest, compared to inline led setup.... it doesn't have a groundbreaking diference. Sometimes the inline got me more fish, another time the "run rig" got me more fish... it's kind of 50/50.

    I really like this idea, sometimes when bites slow up I would hook on a little mesh bag, would it work the same helicopter style?

    • @AnglingDirectTV
      @AnglingDirectTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's certainly worked for me in the past! You could add a bag to this rig however, you wouldn't be able to fish the hooklink up the line as the cast would cause the bead to slip down towards the lead. Regards, Steve.

    Going back to traditional ledger techniques, the old ways are still the best. Don't know why you made it so complicated though by using all those swivels etc to attach the lead, I just use a loop at the end of the line, It's just as quick to take it off.

    Why not just use a free running feeder link ?

  • @Andy-nl3zw
    @Andy-nl3zw ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would just use a running bomb and change rig length don't like the look of all the clips swivels etc on this version if a helicopter set up.
    If heli setup was vital i would look at a similar set up to a carp heli but with smaller components.
    Also be careful of swivel cutting through the line after multiple fish!

    • @AnglingDirectTV
      @AnglingDirectTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andy, Thanks for the comment. I used to change my hooklink like you mention however, I was concerned the line would be kicking out of the silt in an obvious way. Interesting you mention about a carp heli, maybe that's worth looking into. I must say I have never had the line cut due to the swivel, even after multiple fish and sessions. Regards, Steve

    Can be made more tidy & compact. Cut off the lead swivel, use smaller clip & sheath the clip/lead ring with a tail rubber. Less exposed metal bits could help with less fish damage

    • @AnglingDirectTV
      @AnglingDirectTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for talking the time to leave a comment, you could certainly tidy this a-bit by adding a small tail rubber or removing the QC swivel, personally I like the ability to be able to swap leads or feeders in a second so the QC element is important however, I may have a play with some tail rubbers. Regards, Steve.

    I don't see how this can be "the future of bomb and pellet fishing" when on 80% of waters you are not allowed to put a stop above a free running rig? I am not dissing it's cleverness, just the practicality, and the fact you would be breaking fishery rules on most commercials.

  • @podsy009
    @podsy009 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    No, not the future, and in my eyes a danger to the fish. Not something I would ever use. Then again, I dont fish matches or commercials often.

      @AnglingDirectTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Thanks for the comment, it's nice to hear people views. This rig isn't a danger to the fish, the top bead moves under the smallest amount of pressure, in the event of a breakage the fish would only be left with the hook-link. Regards, Steve.
