Hello! from Ireland. So many people tell us we should sell a lot of the things we produce on our little farm. I tell them that people couldn't afford what we would need to charge to cover even a minimum wage of around €10/hr. We make cheese and butter and yoghurt and wine and sausages and all manner of beef. pork and chicken products. I'm fond of saying "We work like peasants but eat like Kings!".
Great saying! Where abouts in Ireland? I'm a Dubliner, city slicker but would love to know how Irish home farms operate - any channels on youtube you could recommend? Cheers
What you should consider is having WORKSHOPS, teaching your skills. Gardening, Cheese, butter, & wine are all viable skills. As well as your processing (butchery) and food preservation methods. People in American pay good money to come to a workshop on someone’s farm and learn how to process chicken or pigs… making cheese is an art that many people are intimidated to attempt without some sort of hands-on instruction or mentorship. I have tried cheese a few times and, when my cow freshens, I will try again.. mentorship is a valuable “service”. Bread baking is also a skill that many struggle with.. These are all valuable, reproductive skills that could be an income source for you instead of the products themselves..
I know you like to show the different things on the farm, the pigs, working on the tractors and such. But it makes my day when you show Patty. IMHO she's the farm's diva!!
Best part of my Sunday. American Gothic and Sinclair Lewis rolled into one. Nice cooking lessons too. 🏆 for working with PW in the cold. ❤ to you, Hilarie and family for continuing a fast disappearing American way of life.
I laughed out loud to only me and then felt sorry for poor Pete with his frozen self and splashes of mud on his face. Brave man. Blizzard #3 brewing in the NW headed for us out East. Brrrr.
Pete I really believe that your grandfather waits anxiously for your next video to come out just like we do! I am sure that he is so proud of you and what you have done with what he left you! Great job!
@@JustaFewAcresFarm we are custodians of the land for future generations. I'm in Ireland and the land is very important ( remember the film The Field) My father handed over the reins to me several years ago as far as the land and livestock go. He sees how much of an interest in livestock my own son has and said he was glad to see another generation would keep it going
Every time you come back with not so good news about the pigs, I think about that huge renovation you were so excited about doing for a pig addition. I think you made the right decision making it into barn to house your beautiful 'stable' of tractors - along with the winter barn for the cows. That is so ideal! When you started pulling out the tractor I thought: "oh no! He's not really going to wash it, right!? Go back in the house and go back to your cross-stitching" lol! Glad it's done. :-) She looks good!
Hi, I am so glad I didn't do that too. Probably, if it weren't for YT and viewers' attachment to the pigs, they would be gone already, and we would just buy feeder pigs to raise each summer.
I love this channel so much. I laughed when Pete looked into the camera holding the grill cover before he washed it. I don't know what gets more silly complaints, that cover, or the giant bush by the door 😂😂
Somewhere along the way we lost our enjoyment in jobs in order to become more efficient. The only Few Acres job I would change is cleaning out the chicken coop. I always wish the building was taller and that bucket would fit inside so Hillary didn’t have to squeeze out the door with every shovelful. I’d still have her shovel!
Mr. Pete; Back in the day when I worked on Farmall in Rock Island Ill. tractors that came off the line were towed out into a staging yard. The tractors that were used for towing had a special three point hitch where the towing tractor would back up to the tractor to be towed and with the hitch would pick up the front axle of the tractor and then pull it out into the yard, stop, lower the hitch and then proceed to go and get another one. No climbing up and down on the tractor to hitch and unhitch, no chains to attach. etc.
Thanks for the peek at you cross stitching! It’s a wonderful relaxing hobby that I have been doing since I was eight or nine. I started with standard embroidery on seed corn bags my mother would soak in a bleach solution for a while then wash and lay on the grass for the sun to bleach out more. Iron on patterns you could buy at the dime store for a nickel. Life was simpler then. I just turned 81 and find I need cataract surgery now. Old age is not for sissies.
I love your videos, love the way Hilarie looks at you and the way you look at her with love. Really enjoy the bad jokes and the cooking advice. I guess that I should say that I love every part of your videos. Please don't stop!!
Another ER visit ...my urethra catheter froze up with blood..talk about pain...took I guess 3 hrs easy to pull the catheter..insert new one..hey I'm ALMOST 74 incredible had 2 high school friends die of pancreatic cancer gosh 15 yrs ago ..so u r blessed...
I prepared beef brisket professionally back in the last millennia for roughly nine years. I must have prepared tens of thousands of pounds of the stuff. Never thought about keeping track of that particular statistic. Kind of like riding a bike, once you know how, you just know how. I imagine there are an infinite number of ways to end up with an excellent result. So much depends upon your equipment, climate, resources, and grade of beef. You're spot on saying that the brisket is a tough piece of meat. The "secret" used by many of us so called experts is a low fire and plenty of time. Once a good bark is established the meat is often wrapped in butcher paper and/or foil to steam in its own juices. This helps to tenderize the meat and prevent it from drying out too much. Looks like your system works well too. I don't think we'd string you up here in the Lone Star State for serving your style of brisket. I enjoyed seeing your method and enjoy watching the progress on your tractor restoration.....
As a fellow cross-stitcher, I appreciate the time and commitment of such creations, and I'm attracted to cross-stitch and embroidery when I'm in thrift stores. I hope one day someone might appreciate mine after I'm gone
Doctor Strangefarm: How I learned to stop worrying and love inefficiency 😂😂😂😂😂 I love doing things the way I like it regardless if there is a better way. I’m not close minded but if there’s something I like to do, I wanna do it the way I enjoy. Thanks for the video!
Excellent video Pete :) , Hilary :) Ersa The Farm Cat 🐈 , All Animals you have , yes Pete :) temperatures are wild this past week plus weekend to and Snow Monday afternoon too!
After dinner and sandwiches, IF there is ever any brisket left, I find a great use for it is beef stew. Just throw it in the crock pot with some root vegetables, some onion soup mix with a bit of water and let it go. Love the Sunday morning videos. God bless, stay safe (and warm).
Pete & Hillary, Rev. Paul Eustis Florida. One can put more garments on when cold, but can only take off so much without getting arrested….lol…. Blessings on you both:)
We've raised pigs all my life when I was young and fed a lot from the garden and waste from the table. Never had a problem with the way the pork tasted. That's all the old folks used to feed back in the day. Hence the old saying " slopping the hogs". Would never feed restaurant food unless I knew where it was coming from like a local bakery or local eatery. Those tanks heaters work excellent in that type weather
I don't think Hilary was kidding when she said that tasted so good. :) You could tell she was really enjoying that chew. Love it that you make the kids eat tuna. lol Priceless!
So I’m in Florida and we recently had our 1 week of winter this past week…a wet cold, lows in the low 20,s & a high of 48 ( I know it doesn’t sound to terrible to most) However, I tried Pete’s trick of emptying the water hose that water the horses, and even though it was 30ish the next morning- it worked wonderfully! I also had 3 heat lamps on the ground surrounding the pipe to the well to keep the water pump/ pipes from freezing. Thanks for the tip!!!
Dad always enjoyed watching sports on TV and mom sat nearby doing cross stitch and other needle work. She always kept baby blankets she made to give to new mothers.
I said to my wife as I was watching “I’m not sure about pressure washing when it’s 20degrees out. That may be really cold!” You definitely proved it but I’m glad your lips thawed out to eat that brisket! I laughed pretty hard on that episode! 😅 keep up the great work!
We fed hog feed along with cooked table scraps, and like you we grazed them in season. That was the best pork I've eaten. Possibly my mother's cooking had something to do with that. It's alleged that my grandfather knitted. Must be a Scandinavian thing. Thank you Pete.
I like your direction of the farm. I am 75 and tearing down old equipment in Texas adds to my day. I see you enjoy doing the same. Good luck Pete and Hilery.
I so look forward to your videos. I find myself checking your channel daily sometimes. After careers in the military and the railroad I wish I had gone into farming instead. The work seems so satisfying and like you Pete I would just like to be outdoors watching the animals most days. Thanks again for a wonderful video....peace
Beautifull cross stitch panel Mr. Pete. And yes , there is a difference. The machine could do it much faster, but it does not enjoy it. And the book Ms. Hillary is reading is classic!
We watch your videos on our TV. All of the family gets together. When you brought out the grill cover, never said a word just gave your sneaky little look into the camera, my whole family just burst out laughing. We could not stop laughing. We were kind of hoping you would never watch that top. But it was actually more fun watching you do without saying anything. Thanks for another great Sunday .
What a way to enjoy a Sunday Morning. (besides praising the lord) is to watch Just a few Acres Farm. and Pete and Hillary , I can relate to the cold there Pete. we're just a little further Southeast of you here in Western MA. and this morning its 5F. But! sunny! and the sun comes in my east window and hits me sitting in myswivel chair watching this video and I'm basking like Ezra would but I'm a lot fatter that he is . Another great video and I can't wait for Episode 3 on the tractor thanks for making my day!. ECF.
Hello Pete and Hillary, so good to see your smiling faces! Oh, Pete the stiching you are doing is very elaborate! I have some that my grandpa commissioned some ladies and it takes years some of them! Bravo!! I am impressed! Blessings!
Thanks for sharing the video Pete. Glad you got the 856 power washed and ready to be fixed. Livestock looks good and content. Man that brisket looks delicious. Take care.

Don't know about Ireland but here in the states we are heavily regulated on what we sell Not saying it's all bad but,it does drive up costs.
The look on Hillary’s face when you begin to tell a joke is priceless 😊

"No, they can eat tuna". LMAO!!
100% agree. That line was fantastic.

That is one clean barbecue lid. Finally. That is all I could think about for months now.

That’s got to be the cutest little brisket I’ve ever seen! Incredibly difficult to cook properly but looks like you got it down to a science.
