Dear Doc Oz....so since all 3 groups of men had roughly the same results as they have been followed....why would you not suggest how the men who choose to actively monitor the progression of psa or even diagnosed cancer should behave....ie: what are the best protocols for prostate health moving forward without surgery or radiation???

  • @jdudb

The latest research (2019) on examining 20+ years of data on men with low grade prostate cancer has shown that there is after all an advantage for having the prostate removed. It has shown that on average there is a 2.9 year life advantage for a man with low grade cancer being removed. 3 years may not seem much but when it comes to the crunch, everyone will want the extra years.

Options for treatment of localized prostate cancer where the prostate cancer is localized to the prostate and immediate surrounding tissue may include surgical removal of the prostate gland, radiation treatments for the prostate gland either given by external radiation, or permanent or temporary placement of radioactive sources in the prostate gland itself. Sometimes, a combination of external radiation and internal radiation is used. In certain circumstances, hormone treatments that suppress the male hormone testosterone may be utilized. *How Prostate Cured Total* , *For more information* tinyurl.com/y2vyn5eo?eFR1 > ❤️

In this interview they did not talk about Gleason score. Active surveillance is for Gleason score of 6. The first number has to be always 3, which means cancer is a slow growth. Every man age of 40 should get a PSA test done.

I have recently been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, Grade IV. It has spread to some of my bones. Please note that a biopsy is NOT a sure-shot test to diagnose the cancer because if the tissues taken from your prostate are not from the cancerous growth, there is no way your biopsy will detect the disease. The only repeat only way to detect the incidence of cancer is through bone scan and MRI. Even the PSA is not a very reliable test - my PSA at different times are 0.9, 0.8...

Bill, my father had the same treatment for his prostate cancer. The good news? No more prostate cancer. The bad news? Damaged bladder causing endless blood clots in the urine and catheters. Although he lived to be 88, his quality of life decreased a lot in the last three years. He was not told about the collateral damage caused by the seeding. The last six years of his life he lived with my wife and me. He was miserable. We watched his will to live just drain right out of him.

    Problems
    1. Side effects include nausea, faint, and Sitosterolemia
related heart disease, as indicated by WebMD.
    2. The recommended doses at 3 pills per day
, each with over 1000 mg of Sitosterol , is far too much for
dealing with prostate issue that should be in the ranges
of 300 mg per day for Sitosterol

This is a great example of an opinionated reality star. In my opinion if your PSA Raises substantially within a a short period of time, a prostate biopsy is in order. Not only will it determine if you have cancer by a Gleason score it will also give you peace of mine.

Many biopsies indicate only a low grade cancer, or non at all, but if you forgo a biopsy you may be the one that has the high grade cancer. That was me. My PSA was 4.2. When I finally got a biopsy I had gleason scores of 7,8, and 9. Fortunately I was able to get it removed. I was lucky that it hadn't metasticized. I still take tests to make sure it hasn't comeback, but in retro spect I wish I had got it removed much earlier. Why take a chance? Get that biopsy. Yeah these surveys say mortality are all the same whether you do watchful waiting, surgery, or radiation. But they don't discuss the quality of life - you could be wearing diapers, taking hormones, periodic chemo, rectal problems, or no erections.

my psa is 8 and my gleason score was 3 plus 3, a high psa is only a warning, it's the gleason score that counts, but only if they hit the right spots on the prostate during the biopsy, they may have missed something large in the prostate, so your gleason score could be 2plus 7, bugga

In the past few years I've been under active surveillance. I'm 59 now. I had a slightly elevated PSA that fluctuated a point (about 5.5-6.5) over several PSA tests...so Dr. says stable. I've had two MRI's (one prostate specific), three biopsies with Gleason score 6/3+3, with the latest (because of pinpointing by the MRI) showing an area of 7/3+4. Nothing seen beyond the gland...could be a lot worse. For someone who is at low risk, or on the fence with a Gleason 6/7, there is a ton of conflicting information about what to do....not sure about how bad Gleason 7 is. The blogs seem to be a forum for men with worse scores , where surgery, etc... is a given. I was hoping I could go with active surveillance until technology (which is changing yearly on this subject) comes up with a treatment not so invasive for the early/borderline intermediate stage. Been feeling like I'm playing Russian Roulette by not having "radical" prostate removal now because of the Gleason 7 score. Will be seeing Dr. about the latest biopsy....not sure I can continue active surveillance.

Just responding to your post. My situation same as yours except I am 67. Been dealing with it for almost 5 years now . MRI's show that cancer is growing slowly. PSA is rising slowly. Now at close to 7 but I have a very large prostate so that makes a difference . Just had a targeted biopsy to check what my Gleason score is now and it came out the same as back in the beginning, 7 / 3+4. Long story short, my Dr. asked if I wanted to start hormone therapy but I told him I would rather just continue "Active Surveillance". He agreed that would be okay with another MRI and PSA as usual. I think he was just wanting to make sure that I was committed to it. I'd be glad to give you more info. Dr. Scholz wrote the book "Invasion of the Prostate Snatchers" years ago and just published a new book this year titled "The Key To Prostate Cancer" by Mark Scholz, MD . Thanks for the video. I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer 8 months ago. Stage 2 Gleason 3+4. Both my local urologist and one of the most respected urologists in the business up at UCSF cancer center recommended against active survelience but I decided to go the "natural method" anyway due to the high recurrence rates and side effects.
I was prescribed these items by a well respected Naturalpath Doctor (N.D.) PSA 7.1 dropped to 4.3 four months later. RESULT: Urologist performed a 2nd DRE test found a "Normal Prostate". (same doctor who found original tumor with DRE). Will be biopsied again soon to see if cancer is completely gone.

Tomatoes are the fourth most commonly consumed fresh vegetable and the most frequently consumed canned vegetable in the American diet. There is emerging epidemiology data supporting the connection between increased tomato consumption and reduced risk for both cardiovascular disease and prostate cancer.
Here we will summarize the nutrient and the phytochemical content of tomatoes and tomato products, and how these bioactive components might act together to modulate disease development.
Recent animal studies have investigated tomatoes, lycopene, and prostate cancer using the N-methyl-N-nitrosourea and Dunning rat models.
These animal studies also suggest that diets containing tomatoes may decrease the risk or the progression of prostate cancer. Due to the frequency and the extent of tomato consumption, the supporting epidemiological and animal data, which connect increased intakes with decreased cancer and cardiovascular disease risk, tomato's role in the American diet is of undeniable importance as part of a healthy diet.
