  • Olight produced a couple really interesting EDC flashlights, offering great performance in a compact package.
    You can purchase these lights direct from Olight here: (non-affiliate, tracking links)

    Olightstore (Get the Free Gober): www.olightstore.com/s/DESUA4 (I forgot to put this one into the video but it's a pretty cool little safety light)
    The Arkfeld UV is an ultraviolet version of the dual-channel Arkfeld, which I have reviewed in this video: @
    The Baton 3 Pro Max is also available in a magnesium-alloy (rather than aluminum) body, which looks pretty neat. This here is the Warm white limited edition, which is a great option over the standard cool white emitters they usually offer.
    DISCLAIMER:
    These lights were sent to me free of charger for review. I was not otherwise compensated for this video. All test results and opinions are my own.

    Sorry I didn't put the runtime graphs for the Baton 3 PM; you can view the graphs in my BLF review here: budgetlightforum.com/t/review-olight-baton-3-pro-max-arkfeld-uv/217344
    Also, I didn't mention the Gober, which Olight also sent me for this video. I really like it, it's a small safety light with a clip that charges via USB-C. It works well, I don't know what else to say about it.

    Olights would make so much sense if they started offering actually nice emitters with neutral temps and high CRI.

      Definitely. These lights are already much better than my other olights, I quite like the warm emitter in the Baton here

      Olight has an HCRI version of the i5r. It's pretty good. Hopefully they make more HCRI lights in the future.

    I use UV light at work to detect refrigerant leaks. It can also detect some water leaks that have dried up and become invisible. Don’t point it at your toilet. Lol. I think olight products are really nice with great run times. If they did high cri they would crush a lot of competitors. I like the fact that they give great customer service and I know that I can trust their batteries. I just purchased fake cells from lightmalls and they basically told me to use them anyways. I personally only like a cool light for a tactical light (warrior 2 mini). I use it to walk my dog at night. For work I use a warm high cri light because it improves my vision and has less glare for up close. My next light will be an armytek Wizard nichia or pro max.

    Great video as usual... just curious, why are they not your favorite?
    They make some of the best performing flashlights on the market.
    I think it either has to do with 1 proprietary batteries? or with non high CRI LEDs?

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Baton in this video pretty well encapsulates my problems with their lights - proprietary Batteries, low-CRI LEDs, annoying aggressive marketing, and some design choices that bother me like bezel-up clips and no lenses over the optics in some lights. I also have issues with the UI such as the lockout

    You should have arrow on the head, pointing at color temp. of the LED used in the light (3000 K in your case).
    I love look of Baton 3, bigger models are not that cute, but still to many flows to buy one - starting from CRI and tint...

    Why not include a lockout position on the Arcfeld emitter selector dial? Seems like a missed opportunity.

    Just bought the Pro Max, you're right, it's a stupid name. Great light though. I'm not a huge fan of the proprietary battery but I haven't noticed any battery degrading from any of my other olight batteries, some a couple of years old at least. Always enjoy your videos, they're very well done.

    Oh, olight...
    So, I EDC an olight warrior 3s and I love it. It is a workhorse and as far as I can tell bombproof (it is highly busckshot resistant anyway).
    If their batteries had a USB-C port built in, and their pull press on the tail switch ignored lock-mode, it would be ideal.
    I have always used Olights in bad conditions and as EDC, but I have never had an issue with them or their batteries (yet?), but yeah, their proprietary chargers, batteries, controls are really meh. (the controls I have gotten used to just fine, but I get they are bad).
    I have plenty of other lights and enthusiast lights, but I just cant find myself EDCing them, even "EDC flashlights" like my Nitecores, Fenix, RovyVons...so many RovyVons......and plenty others. Hell, my Emisar is more of a bedside centerpiece than a daily driver and I love that stupid thing; it does everything I would want and I like Anduril controls.

    Olight definitely has room for improvement. I also think a lot of the hate they get is bandwagon hate. Many many reviews show the quality and durability yet people say they're junk. Might not be their cup of tea but junk? I disagree with them folks for sure.

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think whether it's love or hate there's a lot of hype and bandwagoning going on, which I don't really understand, but hey they're pretty nice lights so I am happy to show them off :P

    I was lucky enough to pick up a WW Baton 3 Pro Max before they sold out. Its honestly what got me interested in enthusiast flashlights. Before I got it, the only lights I owned was a copper CW Arkfeld, I3t, I5R, and WM2. The Baton is really nice to use as a bedside light. The warmness gives off a very cozy vibe. I take it when I stay away from home and use it to fill the entire room with nice warm light. I love my Olights, they just don't have the best candela and color temps. I still like think they make good EDC lights. If you can get them on sale, I think they can be worth it. I ended up ordering a UV Arkfeld during the latest sale. I use UV to charge up my wedding ring and other GITD items so it should be nice to carry. They are some good marketers lol I just wish they would cater towards people like us a little more....

    You can run regular 21700ies in the Baton 3 Pro Max. You just cant load them in the flashlight. And I think the same goes for all Baton's. Just the tailswitch warriors series also doesnt work with regulars. I dont know what Olight has with this green tint . Looks almost like someone in the management likes green tint or is color blind.

      @@mattb7895 That sucks, I'm sorry. I haven't ever had issues with the magnetic charger, other than it being quite slow for the larger models. I haven't had any Olights fail on me, but I also don't abuse them and I cycle through lots of lights so it's possible I just missed something or got lucky. I have heard other say their Olight have failed but it seems pretty uncommon. They do have pretty good customer service, though it's better to reach out to their reps on FB than to email them.
      That said if you're looking for something reliable, I would sooner reommend lights like Acbeam and Zebralight.
