    I'm done with Adobe and I'm looking for alternatives. Affinity looks to be the best I've seen. I've used several tools from Affinity for quite some time and I am now ready to dive in. Looking forward to more tutorials. Thanks so much.

    Thanks, a great video Olivio. I have used similar (B+W) however you have taken it to another level
    I also agree "every tool has it's purpose and strengths" . And no one size fits all. I have been using the Lr5 adjustment brush for years to do similar edits as you have shown in the video; however any program with layers does it better --- but I often wish I never ventured away from Lr5 and PSE12. So damn expensive and time consuming :(
    I have already shared your video and will share it more :)

      Hi Ian, thank you very much. Yes, you are right. There are a lot of amazing tools out there. And each of them has it's specialties. I'm, for example, not sure if Lightroom has Blend Modes for it's individual Filters. So, even with the brushes, it might be limited to just a mask. Also, i love to play around with software in ways it was maybe not meant to be used ;)

    • @ianbrowne9304
      @ianbrowne9304 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lr does not have blend modes, masks, or filters as such; however many adjustment brushes can be applied. It really is quite a power editor; especial for high volume uses (weddings)
      Imo; Lr should be a photo organizing and basic editing program firstly. More advanced editing needs to be done in programs with advance features, text, layers and the likes.
      That said; I feel Adobe has pushed Lr too far while trying to keep many uses happy with more and more tools . That's why I stopped at Lr5 as I thought Adobe were adding stuff I didn't ready need and I would be needing bigger and bigger computers to run that stuff I didn't need .
      The one program for organizing and advanced editing may be too big of an ask or even a dream.
      All a bit off your original topic that I looked at as "taking D+B to another level" . I really feel too many look past careful D+B when editing their photos. I often use the same softlight B+D layer to add selective colours --- works great on black and photos photos
      Cheers

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      any brush you like really. i think in the video you can see me use the basic brushes of affinity photo, but you can use other brushes with textures on them and such. experiment and see what works best for your workflow and motives

    I've tried using a pixel layer along with Colour Blend mode but when I start to paint nothing happens - no colour appears - I have checked and double checked that everything is as per instructional video but still no colour appears ~ any suggestions?

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Samuel, please make sure that your layer is above the picture, that the pixel layer is set to color blend, not the image and that the opacity of the color blend layer as well as of the brush you are using is high enough. finally also check that you are actually using the brush, not the eraser (happens to me sometimes too). If non of that works, try it with a different picture and see if that solves the problem.

      @OlivioSarikas  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also make sure you are using a pixel layer to paint in the color, not a mask layer

      I have now tried it with another image, the first time it worked and so I went back to the original image but it still didn't work. I then went back to the image that it did work on but this time it didn't work. Most odd most odd indeed.

      I've now tried using the Colour Replacement Brush Tool this seems to work and give a similar result.

      That's very strange. But it sounds more like a technical problem at this point. Maybe write Serife or in the Affinity Photo Forum to get some help. I can't think of anything else that would help.

    Ok, great video. I have searched a ton of Affinity videos but NONE will say what requirements are needed to run Affinity photo.

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi D500, you can simply google any software followed by the text "hardware requirements" and it will show you where to find them. No need to watch a video. here are the Affinity Photo requirements: affinity.help/designer/en-US.lproj/index.html?page=pages/Appendix/system_requirements.html?title=System%20requirements
