    Finally someone who GETS IT!! Everyone tells me I should sell my crochet stuff. I spend $40 on the yarn, it takes me 10-15 hours to make an item, then people expect to pay $20.

      I don't know why I craft is so under appreciated. It is the most labor intensive. This is no such thing as a crochet machine.

    Great video and very inspirational! I crocheted a beanie, posted it on my personal Facebook page and one of my friends mentioned how much she loved it. So, I made one for her as a surprise (for free) and ended up getting two orders from her friends who saw it and wanted one for themselves! Showcasing your products yourself or sending one to a friend as a marketing tool is definitely a great idea!

      It can be tough at first. If you are using a facebook business page, people wont find you. Facebook doesn't send notifications out or put items you post in your followers news feed, unless they push the second notification button ..which stinks. I use other FB selling groups to advertise my personal selling page. Join 10 facebook selling groups and post in all of them twice a day. I know this sounds like a lot of work, but it does work. Its like running a (free) commercial. These post will show up in members news feeds. It will start slow at first but then will begin to grow. This time of year is also very hard. I'm not sure where you are located buy for me, my best crochet months are Oct-Jan. I hope this info helped

    Omg I’m just now trying to start up selling my blankets and stuff(husbands family told me to sell stuff) so I’m trying to sell online and crochet hats minimum after the time goes into it and the materials…it’ll cost 30$ minimum. And people really think we can sell stuff for 5$ for a hat, blanket, shirt. And people REALLY don’t understand how HARD it is to do.

    My concern is not being able to keep up with demands. In high school was when I got kinds good at crochet. I learned amigurumi. I sold a few pigs for $10. Then I had like 3 people wanting Domo (not sure how it's spelled) and Gir and a few other things. I came home and half way made three Domos and then quit.. I quit crocheting for a long time cause I had so many more people asking me to make things. One amigurumi at that time took me 8 hours to make.. I went to school for 8 hours. I slept for 8 hours.. I still had to clean and cook and eat bathe do homework etc.. Couldn't just sit for 8 hours ..or even crochet most days.. So they never got finished. I stopped crochet and stopped selling.. Didn't really crochet again for like 3 years...
    My other problem since then is people telling me they want things then I make them and they never come to get them (I mostly sale to local people) so I have trust issues with people.
    I don't mind making things in free time and selling them. I'm currently trying to figure out names and all and get set up on etsy and a Facebook group to sell the items I have made in free times. I'm not the most creative at doing things like that though and cresting a sort of business.. I'd like to go to college and take business classes.

    • @LittlejohnsYarn
      @LittlejohnsYarn  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That is so wonderful that you can't keep up with the demand. But the problem is the pricing. $10 for 8 hrs of work is not enough money. You will need to charge more or make less labor intensive items. My sweet spot is baby shoes, hats, headbands, and scarves. Something I can make in an hour and sell for $30-50. Or think about making patterns. Create the item once and the written pattern will continue to sell over and over. Unfortunately crochet takes time to create. Remember you time is money

      @forestnymphconfessions3596 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Been there!! I'm considering doing "made to order" and taking a photo (of something I plan to use for myself) and then AFTER they pay, make the item.

      Maybe you should try to make the stuff before yous sell it so if it is for example clothes then make one of all sizes and sell them then say it is out of stock and if more people want them you could make another batch i know it might take a while but it will be worth it in the end if the thing is customizable You could make the base and then after you could add the things that the person requested😊 hope this helped

      Many sellers now have a rule per say that when someone puts in a order for something that's not already made they have the buyer put down half of the final price at the time of order, they're more likely to pickup the order and to pay the other half if they've already invested some money.

    The product needs to be unique and useful. I crochet purses and jewelry. The purses sell for $3-12. The jewelry sells for $1-3. With my purses, I make 4 times the materials. With the jewelry, I make 7 times the materials. I only consign in several stores. I sell more than 1000 items per year. However, I do not depend upon this hobby as an income. The small amount of profit is reinvested in more materials so that I can continue to enjoy crocheting.

      I'm 37 and still learning, myself and trying to get my mom to sell her paintings online, it's tricky but don't give up!! There are lots of tutorials and if you're not ready for new a cell phone, get a decent tablet. The downside is that you need a wifi connection like you would a computer but you'll be able to use a square reader to take credit cards. I had to figure out how to use it right in front of a customer and was so embarrassed the first time but it get's easier, I promise!
      My family still has one of those old carbon copy credit card things somewhere, LOL. I'm no expert but when you do get a cell phone or device for selling, get one that takes GOOD photos. It will be worth it in the long run if the photos look more professional. Good luck!!!

    It's my story. No sale, only quality, work expenses to keep the Etsy open. I though to sell on open fair market, but I don't see here in my area. I have a lot compliments, people loves my stuff, my boss complimented and told me to sell. But I don't seel on Etsy, I am spending $15 per month to keep Etsy open. And one of this day I will have to close and keep the $15 in my pocket. I made a mistake not having business card. I was on a supermarket check out, and the lady loved to death my shawl, she wanted my contact and she wanted to buy it. I felt embarrassed giving my # right there on the check out and the shawl was not even part of my best items that I make. But she loved the simple knitted shawl with look like crochet stitch.

      Esty will nickle and dime you to death. Maybe its good for some, but i'm with you. I didn't care for it. Cards are a great idea. People don't even realize they like crochet until they see someone esle walking around in something orginal. That when you whip out the card. I can tell your work is good, because people stop you in public. Always try to look for the free way to sell your items. I hope your yarn season is going well. thanx for leaving a comment

      You should try the GLC Arts and Crafts Mall (www.glccraftmall.com) there are 3 Store Levels starting at just $4.50 per month flat fee and you can list up to 300 items for that price. One thing to keep in mind it does not matter what Craft Mall you are in you must promote your own Business, don't list your items and expect them to sell without you doing any work.

    hi! i’m 13 and i’m trying to find ways to make money and i want to start my own etsy. i know how to crochet amigurumi, but i only know how to with already written patterns that other people make. should i be selling stuff that isn’t 100% mine?

    • @LittlejohnsYarn
      @LittlejohnsYarn  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      95% of the time you can sell anything that you create from a pattern, free or paid. As long as your not selling the written pattern. All pattern designers have their own set of rules. Usually at the end of any written pattern, the designer may say "please give credit to designer" which is nice to do if you are posting on Instagram or FB. The person who buys your item will never know who "said" person is, lol. Only other crocheter know other crocheter, lol. ( i hope that makes sense"...Or the pattern may say "please do not sell what you create from my pattern" When they say this...just avoid those designers, lol. I think those designers are a little stingy. They are alienating their target audience.

      I think there was a typo in your comment. I got confused after you said "and i make thinks ppl askin they never get them." if you are talking about people not getting there item delivered. You can get tracking on all your item to make sure they receive their item

      Yea I was saying I just starting try n sell my work because everyone said exactly what u said lol and then I make the items they want and then they never respond to purchasing them so I'm stuck with more than a few just felt like not selling anything because o already have rejection issues and this just heightens my aniexty

      That happened to me in the beginning. Make sure you get paid before you start working. I learned my lesson the hard way too. I still get anxious when i'm about to ship an item out. Typically everyone loves it. I have made over 1000 items & only had 2 revisions that someone didn't care for. it happens less than you think it would. I'm sure you are just a perfectionist when it come to your work. I bet it's amazing. Those items you are stuck with are now "inventory" they will always be around to sell. Just take good pictures of them...& post them everywhere.

      Its like jumping off a diving board. You have to believe in you're self. I know you can do it. I wish you all the luck in the world

      Don't be discouraged. Imagine standing on a diving board....you just have to leap. the worst thing that could happen is you make a little money...that's not bad. Trust yourself & your work. You are your own toughest judge. you have a talent that many people don't have. that is why they will come to you

    This is glorious, been searching for "are there knitting machines?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Veyillian Noncarlett Eradicator - (search on google )? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my mate got cool results with it.
