- I edited this video for Maine's PBS affiliate, MPBN.
This aired several times in the award winning show "Maine Experience."
All of the old film stock used had no audio all. All the sounds had to be recreated and synced.
The documentary style video is always educational and provides a service to the community.
Brings back old memories. My father was a log driver on the Exploits River in Newfoundland, Canada. I did a little bit of it when I was old enough. Pickaroons, bateaus, and all that stuff. They worked worked a hard and dangerous life.
Absolutely amazing. I'm going to Waterville, Solon, and some other popular logging spots on the Kennebec to trout fish for the next few days; this history is so awesome.
wonderful, thanks for uploading
you and me both. i love maine.born and raised and wouldnt change a thing
Love watching the logs fly at 2:36 👍🏼
great stuff. thanks for posting. I was looking for something to pass along as background for log burling and Log Drivers' Waltz. This works.
I live up here on the Ottawa river and it used to have massive log drives. Drivers would take em right through the rapids all the way down to Montreal or Ottawa and hike back up and do it again.
Imagine going for a swim & here come tons of logs.
I saw that when I was in the Monson area.
The maine people called their non-motorized boats ''bateaux'' which is the french-canadian term.
I find this fascinating😊
Who is the narrator? It kind of sounds like Henry Fonda to me.
Now i know i was born too late!!!!
