Getting adopted and getting together with a blankmont means that the listener's family has zero to gain from this, and it's almost as if you were killed, because you are no longer considered a threat if you side with the blankmonts instead. You asking this made me ponder about it too, but this is the best I got. Still not the confirmed intention though, just a hunch.
