I don't go around Gotham in Batman Arkham Knight saying that the villain subterranean hideout that's 40 levels bellow ground (in an island) and has a nuclear power plant inside and a secret lab is impossible, because that should be obvious.
they are just architects. Prestige is found only by doing something new in that arena, regardless of if it is actually good. Following widely accepted aesthetic practices such such as building a symmetrical house with a cute porch out of a classic and recognizable material would get you laughed out of your architecture awards dinner really fast. Frank Gery Builds weird buildings that architects love. The homes of baltimore are beautiful and homey and inviting, all things that are beneath most architects.
The age old rivalry between engineers and architects 😂 My Dad is an Engineer and my brother an Architect. It's fun when they talk about structural design
agreed. And they have no concept of the game mechanics or the restraints within the game. You work with what you have and MOST hardcore builders operate in two modes... they'll have a bevy of very realistic "blue suburban" or "urban modern" super playable and quite realistic to the real world builds and then they have awesome concept pieces where they have an idea and they make it work within the game itself. We can't build in the ocean... so we make our own. The true skill of a builder I believe is how inventive they get within the limits placed on them by the game.
if they're going to react to more Sims builds, I think it would also be helpful if they were given more context regarding the way the game tackles building. for example they commented about how the first build was boxy. they would have probably had something else to say if they new the Sims 4 didn't do curved walls.
yeah and they commented on how you shouldn't make a tall house like that if you don't need to.. but they do need to. because it was a small lot. but they didn't know that because they don't know how the sims worked. I feel like this video would've been better if they were briefed on the game beforehand, but it didn't seem like they were
I kind of liked that they didn’t understand why or how it worked at first because you got honest answers. However after I think they could have had someone to speak to who plays the Sims after and then they’d have explained why something is/isn’t possible in the game.
@@liama8337 oooh or maybe they could have the architects explain in a more detailed way how some build decisions would not be feasible at all in the sims lol
@@liama8337 Honest to what? Because the point of the video was them reacting to the builds themselves, not the limitations of the game. To which they ended up blaming on the players/builders. "This looks like a man-made pool because it's too square" is on the devs of the Sims, as lots only come in square & rectangle shapes. So then the video gets bogged down by stuff that isn't relevant or useful as a critique to the actual build. As someone else said, it probably would take too long to give enough information to understand the Sims, so I personally think the video would have just been better if they were each given a copy of the game and built their own creations. Then at the end of the video, explain what differs from real life architecture. Y'know.. An actual educational value, rather than them sitting there saying, "that's ugly". Yesss I left a comment on your recent video! I was mad they didn’t leave a link to you only put your name at the end and still people think your builds belong to someone else🤦🏾♀️
Didn't feel particularly fun to watch. It didn't irk me that much that they didn't know the game (though they should have figured out some of the stuff) - more that, especially the woman, they pushed their own esthetic values. I kind of expected more of "physics doesn't work" or "this isn't practical" but saying "red brick is depressing" is very subjective. And yeah, commenting on how they can pick up buildings... We all know it's just a design idea, not a real house. Sims should be treated more like making a project of a house - alongside with interior design - then actual building.
red brick is a quite a warm and homey material. London and New york are all regarded as pretty cities, even when they start to wear out, because of their pleasing symmetrical brick buildings. She just likes to shit on widely held opinions on urban aesthetics to make her feel more special then everyone else. Egotistical architects are the reason modern cities just get uglier and uglier.
Are you actually upset they commented on the fact you could move buildings? Of course they commented on it, it's not a feature they expected. They didn't insult the game or the builders because of it, they just went "Oh you can move buildings? That's cool." Really, I feel like this is an unreasonable complaint.
They should have gotten a basic idea of the game first...they're commenting on things that, one: can't be helped and two, have no clue about how the game works so it makes it cringe for them to be giving opinions on these two builds...

And everyone needs to understand that these people are real ass architects who don't play the sims 4, so they're speaking from the mind of an architect and reacting to the builds, which is what they were paid to do. It's honestly not that serious lol.
And you people should stop complaining like children, majority of people never played games and never will, they are judging, giving insight and criticizing the builds in comparison as if they were done in real life, and how feasible they are. It being a game is irrelevant
When someone has a unique floor plan: “ this is so illogical” When someone make a practical build: “why are you taking the game to serious” But in all seriousness, sims is what made me want to get into civil engineering so I can somewhat relate to both sides
"Stop using red brick." :v She was a bit annoying honestly. Also, I don't think I have ever thought of using brick as "being modern", probably the opposite. Regardless, I find that brick can look really nice in a lot of situations. More importantly, how the hell do you not know what The Sims is? Even my Grandma knows what The Sims is.
From personal experience, there are two kinds of architecture students: 1. the ones who know every single thing about The Sims, played all of the games and 2. the ones who never, ever played it
Majority of people have an actual life and work, they dont waste their time playing video games or even care for them People in the internet who think playing video games is common or that others should even give a shit about their niche games live in an echo chamber, people who play video games are a very small minority in the world.

for real, they have to take into account that simmers only do this for fun and some of them may even be teens, it’s not supposed to be logical or practical in real life, it’s just a 3d model of a building
The personalities really make or break the Gamology videos for me. Love the marines, swordsmen, doctors, especially the rockclimbers. But these architects are flat and boring? Is it an occupational thing? Maybe architects are just boring people. Like Ted from HIMYM and his coin collecting, renaissance fair hobbies...
Personally I really enjoy all the episodes these architects appear in, and the like:dislike ratios on those episodes have all been great (unlike the female marines, for example)
Not at all, these are just pretentious LA architects. LA is good at making people who think they’ve transcended above normal people but haven’t actually done anything really impressive.
As an architecture grad who’s been playing Sims for over 15 years, this is so funny to watch! One thing I love about the Sims is how creative you can be without any restraints, whereas when you’re actually working or doing studio projects you’re so constrained with everything!
Yes, and? The point is them giving their opinion, judge and criticise the builds while giving insight on whats feasible or not. It being a video game is irrelevant
When the lady said, 'Not for our times', I realized that the person doing this build is probably doing that--making a historical build. Which is some of my favorite builds.
@@rasalghul2597 maybe as an accent wall bricks can look good? But hey, everyone has their own opinion. I also don't like red bricks, but still use them to make areas less boring in some designs. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
red brick are the first one you think when you want an impression of solidity but not as monotone than ciment walls. then once in placed you realize red brick are not that nice even if you paint it. i saw that since at least minecraft. but adding it so your walls are composed can be nice. like on the inferior height with the rest of the wall something like broken white or whatever color .
Maybe next time show them some more realistic builds. There are TONS of builders in the Sims that lean towards realism and I think they'd appreciate that more.
"They are just building normal houses and not thinking outside the box even tho they dont have any restrictions." Builds a house that doesn't follow norms "Well that just doesn't make sense"
Videos like these are rather intertaining to watch, but it’s gets a bit annoying when they pretty much know nothing about the game. There has to be a person who has a job like an architect but they also enjoy playing Sims and know how it works. Or at least put a Sims player in the same room with the person with the profession so they could like bounce off of each other and maybe even learn something new from each other.
As a person who plays The Sims and builds architecture like the ones in the video, it's so nice to see how actual architects conceptualize the mechanics of the game. It's funny that they mentioned how they wish they had technology like this when they were in school because I know many people who are The Sims fanatics that are studying architecture in university. What's so amazing about this gaming platform is that it gives the player so much freedom with their creativity.
Why do architects and interior designers sound so pretentious and act like decorating a room is so sophisticated, you could be the best interior designer in the world and your design is perfect by design standards but if it looks stupid it looks stupid. Many times in this video it’s like they forgot that opinions and personal taste is a thing.
Them: This is illegall, this wouldn't work, it does not obey physics... Also them: Why are they doing realistic stuff? It's a game, they can do whatever they want.
the girl said they need to be more creative since they don’t have to follow city guidelines and laws of physics, but the second they do she flips out cause it’s unrealistic
9:39 Idk know why would you ask such question lol. The build is underwater. And there are also underwater hotels with windows with a view of underwater. Could also be source of light during daytime.

as an architect, making builds in the sims is always a cathartic process for me. it's nice to be able to build so freely. even though there are limitations within the game, it's fun how you don't have to worry about thousands of things when you work on lots. as long as it's functional and the sim can go through. on the other hand, it's a little difficult for me too to separate real life designing and construction. i consider wind direction, establish an orientation, flow of activity, etc. hope you can make these two try playing it themselves. there's so much creativity in these builds. it's amazing to see. a lot of architecture these days esp. in my country look dead and ugly. sims is a gamr where you can release some of the things you're not allowed/ limited to do in real life.
These builds are killing it, I wish I was at that level. These people don’t understand how creative and skilled you have to be to make good builds in the sims.
As a sims builder: we do not care if it would work irl, we don’t care about which side the windows are on etc. if we wanna do a cramped tiny house because we feel like it then we just do it same thing with big houses

I work as a product specialist for entrance and office systems. Architects literally call in and say "I wanna suspend a 200lb piece of glass as a partition wall, I don't want to drill through the glass, and I wanna just use these 2" square clamps at the sidewalls only. How much?" Like no ma'am or sir that is not wise, nor physically possible, we don't live in your kid's fortnite.
I'd love to see her work. She seems like a typical artist and not a designer. She keeps saying what she likes, but a designer doesn't work for themselves and there's little room for personal choice.
just in case these 2 are reading the comments: function in this game is very important too, even without the laws of physics. during gameplay, youre gonna want a lot of items on your lot, especially inside a house. Living outside with no house in this game is a pain, especially because of rain breaking all of your objects. Making the outside look pretty is something you should try to do for every house, but sometimes you will need certain gameplay objects that can (and will, theyre pretty much necessary) help you progress through the game (the game itself doesnt have an ending, you usually have to set up a goal when you start playing with a new Sim, i.e. Becoming very rich, but starting with 0 money, or becoming famous, or getting to the highest rank in a career or even becoming a top level vampire or spellcaster). Function is very important during gameplay, but if youre just making a build because youre bored and you want to make something look cool, its not that important. it becomes important when you want to start playing in that house with a specific sim. its not always looks over function, as a lot of players have very small, ugly and cheap houses and have a lot of things under a floating roof outside, and only have a toilet and a bed inside. (this is most common for the Rags to Riches challenge, the one where you start out with 0 simoleons).
In in school for residential construction with the goal to transfer to do architecture. The Sims uses a 1/4 in = 1 foot scaled grid, as do most common building plans. There is foundation, and the option to have a basement (however crawl space foundations are trickier to create). The main issue with the sims as an architectural tool is that if you want more variety and design capabilities, you HAVE to buy all the expansions (currently $750 for all expansions including the newest one) and be using a PC with cheats and mods, or else you have a very limited selection to use. Also, there are no round walls currently, and a lot of base-game details are very old fashioned or downright bland. However, it is possible to make some amazing, and buildable houses in the Sims. For my print reading and drawing class I use the sims to design my floor plan, place my windows and doors, figure out roof style, decide on porch columns. My final project this semester is designing a 1200 sqft 2 bedroom 1 office home. In the sims I was able to do that, and use what I had built to draw my plans. Obviously the Sims isnt the most realistic, but it's a good tool for people to be able to see what they are designing if they dont have Auto CAD or similar programs.
or you could buy the base game and download the cracks for the expansions since theyre super easy to find all over the internet even when you suck with computers!
I kinda like how they drag sims builders bc I feel like a lot of times sims builders think they know everything about design style etc but also these architects are so serious and talk about how they wanted to be more creative at first but the real world changed that. Maybe they could live their fantasies through the game 😂

She was just so nasty. :/ And the random off-hand comment of how someone who likes the style of the first house shouldn't own a truck like.. She really out here stereotyping truck owners. 🙄 Over a video game, too. I don't understand people who act like that.
Probably should have filled them in on some of the basic mechanics of the game because a lot of their comments are about the functionality of the game that players have no control over. It's also really hard to build "real" houses in the Sims because you're limited with whatever you have access to in the game. There's no infinite asset library lol. Also, there are plenty of people who do non-conventional builds because they DON'T want to make a house you'd see walking down the street. Nothing wrong with that. The same thing happens in real life.
Nice video, I learned some new things. It would be really neat if you had them draw up rough draft of floor plans and then let them go wild in build mode. See how their opinions change when they see how difficult it is to make your vision a reality using the tools provided lol

@@beyondtrash1627 Nah, the point of the series is to have real architects have a look at other peoples designs and give their takes on it design wise. Not "hey you don't have a foundation, hey, walls are not supposed to be like that" c'mon, this is a game not a real life construction simulator.

Kevin Korn Real Shit!!!!
I was thinking the same thing!
they are just architects.
Sounds like they'd hate it everywhere in Georgia
I work in this field as a structural engineer and.. God, oh, God, why are all the architects so snobbish ????

@@raindropsneverfall the guy was just afraid to piss the girl off as she looks like she bites and scratches if triggered 😂.
That girl is ready to let her roar out anytime jeez
if they're going to react to more Sims builds, I think it would also be helpful if they were given more context regarding the way the game tackles building. for example they commented about how the first build was boxy. they would have probably had something else to say if they new the Sims 4 didn't do curved walls.
We would be here forever if we tried to explain EAs or the sims lack of things 🤣
yeah and they commented on how you shouldn't make a tall house like that if you don't need to.. but they do need to. because it was a small lot. but they didn't know that because they don't know how the sims worked.
The whole thing was just unnecessary and mean.

Didn't feel particularly fun to watch.
London and New york are all regarded as pretty cities, even when they start to wear out, because of their pleasing symmetrical brick buildings. as an architect, making builds in the sims is always a cathartic process for me. it's nice to be able to build so freely. even though there are limitations within the game, it's fun how you don't have to worry about thousands of things when you work on lots. as long as it's functional and the sim can go through. on the other hand, it's a little difficult for me too to separate real life designing and construction. i consider wind direction, establish an orientation, flow of activity, etc. hope you can make these two try playing it themselves. there's so much creativity in these builds. it's amazing to see. a lot of architecture these days esp. in my country look dead and ugly. sims is a gamr where you can release some of the things you're not allowed/ limited to do in real life.

just in case these 2 are reading the comments:
function in this game is very important too, even without the laws of physics. during gameplay, youre gonna want a lot of items on your lot, especially inside a house.
