Blower motor resistor replacement: Chevrolet Express 3500 van

  • We recently lost one of four blower motor settings for our HVAC system on our 2007 Chevrolet Express 3500, which is the vehicle that our 2008 Roadtrek 190 Popular is built on. In this video, Ari shows you how easy it is to access and replace the blower motor resistor on the Chevy Express 3500. A bad resistor is a common problem that causes your vehicle to lose one or more fan speed options even though the fan seems to work fine in other settings. Replacing the resistor yourself can save you a lot of money and time.

    My 2006 Chevy Express 3500 is making a noise that googled me to your video. The 4th (high) setting stopped working again and you have inspired me to investigate under the hood without bugging my hubby about it :)

    Thank you for this vidéo! It helped a lot for now! Thé motor fan was running itself for near an hour, in spite of unplugging all thé batteries of thé house and thé truck. We unplugged thé plug on thé motor that you showed in thé second step and it finalement stopped.

      I'm glad it helped, at least temporarily. Good luck with the permanent fix! -Ari

    My 2006 3500 express van blower fan would intermittently stop blowing - no heat or AC. I unhooked and rehooked the two wire connectors on the resistor. The components were free of rust or corrosion. This process made the connections contact properly!

    Yup, same deal for me except #4 position is dead. Part# DR780, about $50 for a new one. Thanks for the video man, figured it was something silly like this. Going to try reseating and cleaning connections first, but I can put on my Magic Prediction Hat and tell you right now mine probably looks pretty damn ugly. Cheers dude!

    Good info..... I own a small trailer and you just reminded me to look for obvious things before I panicked and look for bigger problems that don’t exist. For me, it’s always check the fusses. I seem to blow at least one every trip. I used my microwave way too much 😳!

      It's always easy to panic, we all do it when something suddenly doesn't work. I've learned it's best to stop, take a breath and think about the simplest possible fix first before imagining big repair bills. (Not always easy to do that!)🤑 -Ari

    This pointed me in the right direction, but unfortunately, my issue starts in the actual plug in the harness, so i have to change the resistor and the plug (maybe even the entire harness) as well. Thanks for this video though! i was looking under the dash!

    💥 Excellent information. Do you know where I can find the blower motor relay.
    I was told that’s why my blower fan keeps running after the ignition key is off because it’s bad.

    • @Trekers
      @Trekers  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you mean find it as in where to buy it, most auto parts stores should stock it. I'm glad you found the video helpful! -Ari

      @@Trekers thank you but no. I mean, where can I actually find it on my van because I can’t find the information anywhere. The Chevrolet dealership can’t even tell me. The blower motor relay, not the resistor.

    • @Trekers
      @Trekers  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh! From my research, I don't believe it has a relay. Check this out: www.justanswer.com/chevy/31wuc-location-blower-motor-relay-chevy-express-2500-van-2005.html

    Hi buddy thank you for the information of location on it > but wondering if this will also cause the fan to go on and off on its own with van not running and no key in ignition.

    • @Trekers
      @Trekers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's an interesting situation! I'm not sure if this could be the cause or not, but anytime there's corrosion on a part, strange things can occur. -Ari

    Was the fan working on some speeds and not others. My blower is not working on any speeds or coming out of any vent. My resister looks like yours.

    • @Trekers
      @Trekers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our fan was working on two speeds and not two others. That tends to mean the resistor is bad (based on my prior experience with multiple vehicles.) It's possible your resistor has completely blown and that's why you have lost all speeds. Or maybe there's a fuse that's gone bad? However, you also could have a bad blower motor. -Ari

    Where did you get the resistor and the resistor connector?

    • @Trekers
      @Trekers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I purchased the new blower motor resistor at a local Auto Zone parts store. They have them for most vehicles -- I just had to do this same project on a 2007 VW GTI and they had the part for that, too. The resistor connector didn't need to be changed on either vehicle, but Auto Zone might be able to help with that, as well, if you need it.
