For some context: This was a project me and my girlfriend worked on inbetween other projects, some horror and some non-horror. Hiii! Great game. Didn't get the ending doe, what was it all about? Initially I thought it had to do with a foreign body exploring veins after it got in through an open wound but the more I saw the weirder it got.

I LOVED those movies! Wasn't there "Rescuers" and a “Rescuers Down Under”? The Australian bad guy terrified me cuz he took the eagle or something? Idk that was so long ago lol Great movie, though.
The first part of the crawl was grey and monotone I thought the character had some sort of black and white nightvision or thermal until I saw the water.
Have you heard of a game called Agony? It’s about a soul that goes to hell and everything there is made of a mess of flesh and bones! This might be the game that most resembles MFPNP.
_I think it was a metaphor_ Bugs can be many things. "You're cute as a bug!" is good. You're bugging me or you're like a cockroach are not good. I think in this game, you are a person - you originally could stand. But you _feel_ as low as an insect bc of something you did. The story elements are very sparse, but there was a line about seeking forgiveness. "I cut myself open and found naught but filth". You are trapped within yourself, as monsters in your mind go after you. Finally an actual human hand becomes the enemy. You might be a victim of abuse of some kind, and then actually pick at your wounds. And at the end, you cut off your own hand - the part that begged? - or your tongue. You put out your eye so you no longer had to face yourself as the metaphorical insect. I'm sure it's different and interesting to play, but I didn't really enjoy it tbh - the environment was all the same, the monster encounters looked tedious as did the movement. The concept may be creative, but I think it needed to be even shorter and would have had more of an impact.

Same! It's a terrifying aspect for me. Idk what the heck I'd do.. probably panic then hyperventilate and die... at least I can only HOPE it'd be that quick if stuck somewhere like that. *Shudders*
When an experienced psychotic person meets a knife, like genuinely manly had seen so many horror games with murder objects in it that he didn’t even hesitated the second he got a murder weapon
Watching this was enough to put me on edge. Combination of claustrophbia, meat monsters, and underground drowning is a perfect combination of "I'm uncomfortable."
I like how hes just chastising the meat spider and talking to it like a pet that he brought into the cave with him and is going all over the place because he has never seen cave systems before but has no sense of direction so he loses his meat spider friend and has to go find him Edit: D:
He's sitting here poking fun at the finger spider and just joking in general. Meanwhile I'm over here not even playing the game just watching him with my knees curled up under my arms in a perpetual 0_0 face. This may be the worst claustrophobia simulator I've seen a game pull off.
At first I thought why are they trying to eat us (Everything around them is meat) but with the ending I realized they wasn't trying to eat us,but to protect themselves. Area from beginning of the game is not just a cave it's the same exact thing but gray.They knew that if main character will come to the center it will destroy the whole organism. We Are some sort of a Fly, that's why our enemies looks like spider and human hand with such form of main character game show self destructiveness it has wings but doesn't use them.
Crawling in a tight cave is scary enough. I've seen that new Internet Historian video, I instantly felt scared at hearing people crawling through a cave system that are tight areas.
Moving by grabbing things in VR is a quite commonly mechanic, but it’s used mainly to climb. I think that a VR version of this game wouldn’t be that difficult to make.
Three things: 1. Mystery Flesh Pit National Park. 2.Being chased by the meat spider looks so cool, you feel slow and like you're going to be caught any second, but you find water just in time. 3. I like how the game teaches you the mare minimum but has some hiden features like poking the spider makes it run away.
The crawling system here reminds me of an old game I used to play called "the climbing game". Essentially, you could grip onto any surface to climb upwards using the two hands of your player. Alongside this, you could move freely in a 3d environment. The catch of this, is that your hands are anchored directly to your player, which is affected by physics. This means that you had to strategize to crawl swiftly, and get around obstacles. It was actually quite fun
I'm not even claustrophobic but being stuck in an area like this would be terrifying. The limited movement is what would scare me, but also the isolation.
I could only hope to panic "enough" where I'd stroke out or hyperventilate and immediately have a deadly heart attack. I couldn't crawl through that no way in heck.
I agree with the minor issues mentioned but overall this is still quite effective. It's got a good uncomfortable sense throughout, that claustrophobic fear that you instinctively have only getting worse as the cave becomes somewhere you clearly should be not be. I imagine a VR version of this, while perhaps a bit tiring to play, would only enhance that.
This game looks tense asf! Also at the end when the meat petrified, it seems to imply the previous “normal” cave you started in was just the dead version of the meat cave!
You know, originally before the ending (spoilers) i thought those crawley things were actually people that got morphed by that place and got twisted into horrible creatures that grew lots of legs to adapt to their environment, i thought the protagonist was gonna become the same thing at the end, in a way i was right

If the meat caves aren't new to them that's a perfect food source. Blood and meat supplies all the human body needs, as northern natives(sami and siberians) survived off just reindeer for thousands of years. Usually thinly slicing the raw meat from a fresh cull to eat and dip in the captured blood they held in cups.
The Disney movie you were thinking of Manly was The Rescuers. I remember that scene well. I actually grew up with both that movie and it’s sequel and they were really dark. The first one dealt with child abuse and the other dealt with child kidnapping.
You know what's probably worse than those spiders? When you're climbing up those narrow tunnels, look down and see something moving silently in the darkness below you like at 7:09

The way you crawl with the hands reminds me of how you can pull yourself with the grab-pack in Poppy Playtime. This way of moving around is really cool, and I’ve only seen it twice so far. I hope there will be more games like this one, where you crawl with your hands bc crawling always looks like a more creepy way of moving around, probably because of spiders and those good old horror movies with creepy crawling ghost girls 😭
It's crazy how untapped the genre of caving is for games, namely horror games. It seems like such a perfect VR and horror genre and even without monsters the confining nature of caving is just perfect for stressful game scenarios.
If I had a nickel for every game about a meat cave, I'd have two... No, maybe three or four nickels. It's not much, but it's weird that it's happened more than once.
I started watching manly in 2020, right when he got a big surge in followers and it’s crazy to see 1.5mil now. I remember watching his grims hollow playthrough when he did it as the first video I came across on the channel, super glad to see him growing in numbers. Usually I don’t go to TH-camrs as a course of comfort but his play throughs get you through a lot, be it a rough patch in life or maybe just an hour of boredom, always love the uploads. super glad I clicked when I saw his channel come up in my feed that day.

The directing of the specific events was good, I will say. The entire game is training you for that last chase, alternating between portions where you climb to learn to be precise and sections where you evade to learn to be quick. The flooding climb acts as a midterm for that test, showing you that you WILL need to climb quickly, but without being instant death.

About the hand with an eye. There is a story my mom used to tell me about La Mano de Fatima, which is just "Fatima's hand" in Spanish. It is a religious story, and i think it was about Fatima thinking her husband was cheating on her, while she was cooking she asks him about it he confirms her suspicious. Fatima was so distraught by this information, she hadn't noticed her hand was on the fire she was cooking with, and then something about how God. This is usually represent as God's eye (just an eye) in the palm of a hand, typically as little charms on jewelry. My family used them to ward off jealousy and to have patience. Creepy bracelet to give a 11 year old
VR of this could be super claustrophobic if you were into Cave Diving/The Descent kind of horror, needed more moist sounds & submerging into unknown fluid parts with a sprinkle litle more ambience reverb, and going down as going up, but nothing is more terrifying than instead of going up in a cave or sewer--- going down feels like it has more risk.
Oh, the first Rescuers movie. The one with the orphan girl being made by some evil old lady in red to get some diamond in a cave? That brings back memories.

About the hand with an eye. There is a story my mom used to tell me about La Mano de Fatima, which is just "Fatima's hand" in Spanish. It is a religious story, and i think it was about Fatima thinking her husband was cheating on her, while she was cooking she asks him about it he confirms her suspicious. Fatima was so distraught by this information, she hadn't noticed her hand was on the fire she was cooking with, and then something about how God. This is usually represent as God's eye (just an eye) in the palm of a hand, typically as little charms on jewelry. My family used them to ward off jealousy and to have patience. VR of this could be super claustrophobic if you were into Cave Diving/The Descent kind of horror, needed more moist sounds & submerging into unknown fluid parts with a sprinkle litle more ambience reverb, and going down as going up, but nothing is more terrifying than instead of going up in a cave or sewer--- going down feels like it has more risk.
Oh, the first Rescuers movie. The one with the orphan girl being made by some evil old lady in red to get some diamond in a cave? That brings back memories.
This is almost like a horror based slip and slide with how much momentum manly gets at times.
Doesn't need monsters. Cave crawling itself is pure horror.
