- My first flight on an A380! London to Singapore, landing from the north on the morning of 5th July 2009. I'm sitting in seat 51K. The flap actuators are really loud - noisier than the engines. Note the bang and shake at 2mins 45 sec as the undercarriage goes down. The plane floats a bit down the runway - watch for the slight use of the spoilers to dump the lift just before landing which causes the plane to bounce onto the runway. Nice flight and the usual great cabin service.
20 July 2008 I was on an A380 from Singapore to London. 9V-SKA. I didn't heard the engine when they rotaded, but I heard the flaps VERY good. I'm 13(11 that day) but that flight was very nice:D
@SuperProbot - when you're on the plane it's obvious that it's the flap motors that are making the noise. The engine thrust may need to be increased when the flaps are lowered to overcome the additional drag, but you can hear them separately from the flap motors. Other aircraft have noisy flaps, but not as noisy as the A380.
epic flap sound! LOVE IT!
Hi Michael123124: We were landing from the north over Malaysia. The bridge at 1:47 seems to be at Kong Kong (the end of Jalan Kong Kong), which doesn't show on the Google maps or satellite images yet. At about 3:27 is the Tanjung Langsat oil terminal at the end of Jalan Pekeliling, which is on Google maps. Hope that helps!
looks like a smooth landing
Great! Enjoy the flight.
Yes I held my breath just before touchdown. That makes all the difference.
Thanks for watching. The ailerons are interesting to watch, almost like the feathers at the tip of a bird's wing doing fine adjustments to the direction of flight.
Just flown on another A380 today, Emirates Dubai-Manchester. The same flap noise, but now I'm used to it. It adds to the interest on the video though!
It's because the outer engines would be in danger of sucking up debris from the edge of the runway so they are not fitted there. The reverse thrusts on engines 2 & 3 don't make the aircraft stop quicker, they just take the pressure off the brakes. Have a look on Google - there are many web sites which answer this question!
@Neno8403 Thanks for the observation. Looking at the short finals I can see the spoilers in use to keep the wings level right down to the runway, including the last twitch' just before touchdown.
that's a nice landing :)
I dont know why but i love to hear the flap noise
Nice flaps...
It's my Panasonic Lumix FZ7 - a six megapixel camera with nice video facility. I set it at 30 frames per second on this video, I normally use 10 frames per sec to save memory and uploading time. I hope your broadband was fast enough to stream it - mine wasn't!
Good Pilot
Hi Paul961028 - thanks for watching - the video was originally loaded before I added the details of the flight, so you can now read what it was all about!
I agree, at least you can hear that they are working.
Our travel will be like this big guy
@KrazyTrain18 - thanks for reminding me - I can't remember what I wrote yesterday let alone 2 years ago!
Cool
very nice video. 5*
@deviantdanny i more likely love 2 hear the rawr of the engines then the flaps..it sounds like end of the world when the flaps are down..
wow..... airbus say its the quietset engine in the skies but its the noisers flaps...
@Thebmwisthebest my favorite flap sounds
Yes, a bit like walking into a sauna even with the air conditioning in the airport.
@lopory I don't know - but the motors must be very big to move those huge flaps
Yes I forgot that one. Strangely, Americans also use landing gear to take off with.
@yejiadong - I think they often use the same plane for the same route, so if you were flying London to Singapore it could have been this one!
@fastkid392 i guess you don't have to bear with the noise of the flaps like you would with the engines.
@dray96 Hi - no it's Kong Kong - you can find it on Google Maps.
@thamesking Sing Air uses 2 a380 on this route, but i think i was on this one because i remember opening the flaps at around 2.27. Nevertheless, being trained in flying the a380 is a very good experience for all pilots. Very difficult landing. Hope you guys dont mind the flaps sounds because i was adjusting it throughout. And if you guys noticed, you can see the reclaimed palau tekong at around 3.28.
cool..
@deano11s London-Singapore is non-stop, about 12 hours
I been in Singapore Airlines Buiness class in the a380 to tokyo the best
@thamesking thanks very much...
@flyboyrocker71 Hi - a lot of people have commented on this feature of the A380 on various aircraft forums. It seems to be something to do with the 'Load Alleviation Factor', a way of reducing the bending forces on the wing. Try googling 'A380 ailerons'.
@thamesking wow can't remember yet it's in the description
@thamesking why does a380 only reverse the 2 and 3 engines?
@fastkid392 and is that a problem? You have to fly with the sound of the engine in many hours, and the flaps is just during takeoff and landing. I prefer quiet engines instead of quiet flaps... Maybe you don´t prefer that?
@yejiadong you flew this flight?
Is there any possible way to land this plane smoothly? Every landing I see is either bounced or dropped.
@b777bfe - It's about 12 hours.
It looks like the aileron is divided into 3 or 4 independent parts..does anyone know why that is?
@B767rules. No problem Just out of interest, where are you going to use it?
can i use this audio? ill credit you
Hey, i did a similar landing on the 5th of July on SIA a380, wonder if i was inside that plane. This is a good landing, based on my experience.
what is an undercarriage ???
@333222107 - just checked my intro at the top of the page - it was row 51(K).
'Undercarriage' is English for the wheels of a plane. I think Americans say 'undercart'.
yeah the flaps are so noisy
frise?
@333222107 Hi - I can't really remember, but it must have been about row 48 or 49. You can check out the seating arrangements on seatguru.com for different airlines and airplanes.
Mad
@thamesking hehe it's okay great video though
@fastkid392 ahahah true If they only would use RR engine would be lot betr
i want to travel to singapore because it is a beautiful city...but i don't know hot to travel to songapore...i live in mexico city and asingapore airlines doesn't landing here
@thamesking A Flight Simulator video
i think they say "landing gear"
@yoyoyoyoshua Should be.
a380 flaps come out so slow
Thats not Singapore. Thats most probably still Malaysia or Indonesia.
im studiing physics but i still dont understand how this bird can fly :)
wow thats really noisy!!!!!!
MAY I KNOW YOU WHATS YOUR SEAT NO. PLEASE
Sry for not knowing i ussualy dont fly to singapore but at 3:28 WTF is that a space shuttle launch LOL i no its not but wth is that
