As we age, we lose volume in our faces. As time and gravity exert their effects, these transitions become more pronounced as soft tissue volume slowly dissipates. The transitions in the face (from the lip to the nose - the nasolabial fold, the junction of the lower eyelid and cheek - the "tear trough", and the progression of the jowl to the chin (the marionette line), all tend to become accentuated as we age. There are a variety of "fillers" that can be used to replenish lost facial volume as well as your own fat! Alexes Hazen MD, FACS is a New York City based aesthetic and reconstructive surgeon.
