Sneaking Out of Cromwell Harbour

  • Three days of bad weather meant that the Lynsey B had to be safely tucked away in the old Cromwell Harbour. However a very low tide means there is not much water under her keel so Barry has to try a sneak through to Victoria Harbour without getting tail tied or damaging the prop.
    Jeff also attempted his first flight with the DJI Mavic 3 drone from the deck of the 'Lynsey B' while Barry hauled and shot a full fleet of 12 wooden creels.

      Thanks Bruce, the landing definitely the hardest part of the flight. There is not a lot of room to land without catching the props on the bigger Mavic 3 drone. I will keep practicing though, hopefully later this week. Jeff

      @@MacLeanComms was like those Pacific Carrier landings of WW2! 😁👍
      I bought a DJI Mini 2 from a work mate, used twice and mint!, been out a few times and amazing tech!, the quick shots is perfect for what I want Jeff 😁👍

      @@Coastriderscotland I had a Mini 2 prior to the Mini 3 Pro I have now. It is a great little drone. The problem with the DJI landing sequence is the drone automatically hovers for a couple of seconds to check the landing area before setting down. That’s fine on land, but on a drifting boat it can make it a bit hairy, as you can see in the video. I wish there was a way to override the sequence and just dump it on the deck. But no 😞

I have watched just about all your videos now and i have to say i take my hat of to you captain , you have done an absolutely magnificent job on your vessel in fact i would class it as outstanding you should be ery proud of your achiements on the linsey b fair winds and calm seas .

      Thanks Mike, it is difficult trying to land on a moving boat. I am very aware of losing a drone in the water, which I did five years ago while filming Barry’s previous boat down the coast at Eyemouth when I flew the drone backwards into an overhanging branch. It ended up in 10 ft of water so we could recover. It was replaced under the insurance but I hate losing kit unnecessarily 😎😉👍 thanks for the comment. Jeff

    Daft question.. what's the reasoning behind parlour creels?

      Nice question. 😉👍
      23 lobsters tied our week of nicely.
      It's not what you catch per day, it's getting your days in per week that matters.
      I need 8 lobsters a day to break even, but I'm very lucky as my boat and equipment are bought and paid for, others aren't so lucky, that's why they have to fish until they drop, poor buggers 😞😉👍

      I am sure as a self employed sole trader you will get your good days and bad days, then there’s the costs and overheads. It can look attractive from the outside until you are actually trying to make a living out of it, which kind of brings to mind the young lad who joined the Royal Navy because he liked the look of the big shiny boats and six weeks later after loads of scrubbing and cleaning he came to realise why the buggers were so clean and shiny 😂😂

    • @MacLeanComms
      @MacLeanComms ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Craig, the drone is a DJI Mavic 3 with the twin cameras. The newer Mavic 3 Pro has a triple lens set up but apart from that is the same drone. I also use a DJI Mini 3 Pro, which is easier to land on the Lynsey B. Thanks for the question. Jeff
