I live in Dallas and flew to Portland to buy my Brompton from Clever Cycles. Super helpful, and loved that I could rent one for a day before deciding on the options.
I bought my Gazelle Mondeo there. The electrics are a crank driven BOSCH system that is UL listed. The bike has never been wet, always stored in my apartment, not over discharged or overcharged. I check it often to see if the battery is warm. The chain and derailleur are lubricated with caution. Hopefully never have a problem??? Much of my shopping is by e bike.
Love this shop. They did a great hub dynamo lighting set up for me that really gave me confidence as a commuter. Going to clever was like a pilgrimage.
When I see a bike shop like this, it reminds me that cycling as a consumer product is not taken seriously in the U.K. There might be a few exceptions but most bike shops I’ve been in are not great, not a good consumer product, more like going in some rough and ready small DIY store that has stuff everywhere,not organised etc. We would be lucky to have a shop like this in U.K.
Beautiful shop! One of the big drawbacks that I see as someone who owns and loves eBikes is that most of us can't test ride them, only direct shipped to consumer. I'm hoping with the rise in popularity of eBikes more bike shops like this one will open around the country.
I’ve seen other shops like this. Nice. Not like Propel, I love them but they’re scary. Right now my shop is a hole in the wall 100 miles a way. Do business with good people. Then stay loyal to them a long time. That is a strategy that has served me well.
