    My experience with these is to attack the nest well after dark. The nest is at it’s quietest. Attacking during the day is asking for hells fury! Most of the foragers are out bringing food back to the nest. Not only do you have to worry about the ones in the nest but returning members that will sting & bite.
    Set up flood lights straight on with the entrance (usually at the bottom). Set up your attack off by 30 degrees. I prefer to shoot 2 cans simultaneously right into the entrance. If any make it out alive? They go straight for the flood light. Practice has shown this is the best method. Take the nest down a couple of days later with gloves & long sleeve shirt. Put it into a garbage bag & dump in the trash. Never open the nest-ever! There might be one left alive inside & they hurt A LOT! Even just one.

    For as much paper as there was I’m surprised the amount of brood wasn’t much bigger. Must be a newer hive they were going to expand into. Anyway, Bald Faced Hornets are actually, technically, wasps. Not actually hornets. Nonetheless, it takes some serious balls to mess with them. They are ruthless

    I had to deal with these a few times, what I do is go to them at night when they are all home with a gasoline torch made with a old rag and stick as they fly out their wings disappear if they fly through the flame and they fall to the ground . I normally squirt gas into the nest just to immobilize them and then have a hive roasting party

    We had a BFH nest in our yard last year and I researched them. When removing you should ALWAYS spray shut the entrance hole with foam poison and the BAG IT UP IMMEDIATELY trying to get as much of the nest in the bag as possible.
    The reason is because there are 100 future queens in various stages of development for next season. If you don’t kill all those queens (say some fall out and drop to ground or fly away) that’s X number of nests you need to deal with next year.

    I’m so happy for you that your other videos blew up! Your bumblebee attack video was the first video I ever watched of yours, sometime last year, I think!
    So, I know you had your PPE on, but like, how sad were you that they didn’t seem to live up to their name?! Like, they didn’t seem all that aggressive and defensive to me! I’m surprised and a little sad. Haha
    The bald faced hornets are just wasps, like, a more hardcore version of Yellow jackets, they’re all over the US too.
    I would have totally thought that whole nest would have been full of paper comb and brood, I was surprised to see that it wasn’t totally filled out. I imagine, if left to their devices, they’d probably fill that out.

    If you carry a first aid kit with bentonite clay and Juniper Berry EO, you can save yourself a lot of issues with paper wasp, hornet and yellow jacket stings. You make a paste with the oil and the clay and put it on the stings and it draws out the toxins.
    I had one of those paper wasp nests and I waited till night and threw ISO on it and set it on fire. I discovered later that soapy water kills them just like it does stink bugs. And they are paper wasps.. The queen doesn't look a lot different from the rest of the wasps, so I'm not surprised you couldn't find her.

    • @HeatherNaturaly
      @HeatherNaturaly 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No matter how much you read about the physical characteristics of a queen wasp or hornet, you are not likely to be able to pick one out of a line-up. If you look at queen wasp pictures, you'll find that the queen is sometimes a little longer than worker wasps, perhaps a quarter inch. And in some varieties of wasps, queens have a pointed lower abdomen and narrow waist that the non-royal members of the colony do not have.

    My brother and I discovered when we were young that the safest and a really effective way of dealing with any sort of bees, wasps, hornets (which are wasps closely related to yellow jackets which, in my experience, have the worst sting and its pain lasts the longest). We were being attacked by bald-faced hornets (which is one of several names for them, but, my favorite is "white-ass hornets") where third-base was on the street where we played softball (they had set up their nest inside an about 4 ft. high railroad tie wall) and, not having any spray poison we came up with the idea of mixing up a small amount of dish soap (for the foam) and ammonia in the bottle the dish soap came in (the little nozzle on the cap of the bottle is ideal for injecting the foam into the entrance). The best thing about the foam is it slows the hornets down and keeps them from getting at you and you'd be pretty amazed at how fast the ammonia works at driving the hornets out of the hive (at least those that could get out, as the foam slowed most of them down enough for the ammonia to kill them) and because of the foam they can't get back inside (not that they really want to at that point). Every now and then we would run up and give another dose when the foam began to thin out. I don't know if they made stronger solutions of ammonia back in the '60s but you could smell it from yards away and even though the workers who had been out foraging clustered around the entrance for hours, around evening time they wandered off and in the morning they were all gone. My suspicion is that the foam also helps keep the fumes from the ammonia inside the nest and most likely this killed the queen. Anyway, That morning not a hornet was to be seen (except the dead ones around the entrance), there was no smell from the ammonia and obviously, no residual poisons to worry about with children or animals (i.e., pets, children being little animals themselves). Cheap, easy to make and relatively safe (at least no residual poisons to worry about as ammonia is a gas held in suspension). Used this methods many times since then and it's never failed me. I've used the poison sprays in areas that were hard to get to since most wasp sprays these days shoot pretty far, but these are usually places where pets and children generally aren't a concern.

    Stupid question alert: Can you place a plastic bag over it, and then use a putty knife to disconnect the top of it and quickly drop it in and close up the bag? Then they could suffocate?

    • @chuck-dd3gk
      @chuck-dd3gk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They can chew through plastic bags. You can put them in the freezer for 5 days but who wants that. The best I've seen was someone using gorilla spray adhesive on the hole and outside of the nest. they did this during the day so it caught the foragers returning then using drione to kill the whole hive. Drione alone will do it but then you won't get to see a clump of stuck bugs and this cuts down the swarm. A bee suite required.

    I just had an unexpected encounter with the white face hornets this weekend while trimming a tall shrub. First I felt a few stings in the back. I thought it was just needles from the tree getting inside my shirt. Then I saw some of the bees flying around me. Full panic set in when I saw the nest about two feet from my face and the hornets were scrambling to get out and attack me .I just flew off of the ladder and ran. I was stung eleven times in the back. These little bastards are mean. Double check for nests before doing any outside work. I was lucky.

    These are called Bald face Hornets but they are not a Hornet they are actually a member of the yellow jacket family. Watch Herc1120 and Hornetking they both do a lot of bald face hornet removals and relocations. They can educate you a lot about them.
