Man i've watched Marshy from day 1 of his career. He's come a long way. I loved his hooligan way of playing back in the day. Bergeron has really shown him how to control himself. The hooligan is still there though. It's always gonna be there and i love that! Looking forward to the future!
We were living near Moncton and had season tickets to the Wildcats while BM was there. He was feisty, intense, and a pest even then, and never lacked for heart. Still compared to some of his team mates (Keith Yandle, Luc Boudoun, Jason Demers, Oscars Bartulis, Andrew MacDonald) I didn't think he would be be a star in the NHL. He sure proved me and other wrong! To see how he has grown and developed, and how far he has come, and what he has accomplished, is really cool.
Your comment of hoping he can act mature suggests you have not seen him play consistently in quite some time from his days of beyond the rules play. You still hold past memories of his more foolish times. This guy has developed himself into the best, all-around left winger in the NHL. Before anyone mentions Ovie, at least Marchand knows how to backcheck and where his own end is.
I can't see this deserved appointment altering his edgy play. If anything, being the undisputed leader of this club might even heighten his overall impact on his teammates in terms of him not having to defer to anyone ahead of him. Perhaps with Big Z and then Bergeron in the hierarchy, I doubt he'd overstep the captains in whatever locker room roles and duties they had. He's been the sparkplug for this team for years.
