- Turning my attention to the cylinder head, those worn valve guides needed replacing and when the owner originally asked about re opening a blanked off exhaust port - originally this was a 'Twin port' head - I suggested it might be tricky and best left alone. However, I decided to have a go after all, it wasn't too easy by any stretch, but it turned out ok in the end!
G'day Paul, thanks for all the videos your making on this 1930s BSA motor it's very entertaining, had a shocking discovery today l was changing the oil on my BSA Super Rocket and pulled the strainer off and a nut and washer went clunk in the oil pan, both from the conrod, last time l buy a fully restored motorcycle from anyone, another engine rebuild and l hope no damage, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.
Ooo-Err, that sounds bad. I hope you get the engine back to operating without too much trouble, but it sounds like a complete strip anyway.. Have you another bike to ride in the mean-time? Best of luck with it! Les in UK
@@leslieaustin151 thanks for your comment, yes l have more bikes, had just finished a rebuild on another of my bikes and thought 🤔 that would be it for a while, but that's life, looks like the wife's lost me too the shed of a while more, cheers mate, look yourself.
Wow - nasty, sorry to learn that, Neil.
@@norsehall309 haha! The shed (well, garage) is where I almost live these days! Take care with that strip-down then. Les
@@paulhenshaw4514 hi Paul, pulled the top end down too case's pistons off and no movement on conrods up or down or sideways, primary side then timing side next, l will sleep better after l have done the work, thanks for the response, I'll let you know what l find, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.
Nice work Paul, and thanks for the valve-guide tip.
Sounds like a good job to me & back to being a twin Port looking forward to seeing the finished engine. My best wishes to you from the Philippines 🛺❤️👍😉😀😁🏁🏍️🛺🐑🇵🇭🏴
Thanks 👍
Great job paul nice to see it back to being a twin port 👍
Thanks Tim 👍
I look forward to seeing the complete bike when the owner brings it in for final fettling.👍
Excellent work, great to see a classic engine come back to life. 😀
Nice to see you enjoying the build, gonna be a beauty, can`t wait.
Thanks 👍
I hadn't thought of anybody blanking off one port of a twin port before. Hopefully, it's a rare occurrence!
It is fairly common, especially on Panthers. I think it was to save money on replacement exhausts and there are those who claim it also increases power a little.
@@paulhenshaw4514 I suppose that makes sense.
Great ideas and great work. Was the twin exhaust port just a fashion or was there a purpose to it? Improved scavenging maybe? I hope an exhaust header can be sourced. I've seen slopers in museums and such but never heard one running.
Twin ports were presumed to boost power for a while, but they didn't as it later transpired. Also, I suppose they just made a machine look more 'sporty'.
Mhm it looks like somebody tried to increase performance of this engine blocking one exhaust port. It's very interesting engine, too bad You don't have a complete bike in your shop and can't ride it.
I sometimes wonder what it’s like to be multi talented. Can you tell us?
Thanks, but there are lots of things I can't do, believe me!
That sounds a bit rough on the back pack.
