I have the exact same dryer as you, with the exact same problem. Finding this video just when I was about to buy a new dryer seems like a sign of good things to come! I’m going to order the part now and have a go at fixing it. Thank you so much. Your video was very clear and easy to understand.
Thank you, Phil. Your problem ended up being the same as my problem. Mine, too, started working with some assistance to the drum. I appreciate your video.
Thank you so much for the great tutorial video!! You just saved me £350+. It was exactly that capacitor issue, it had actually burnt through one of the connections on the top of the capacitor. All the best to you👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I have the same dryer it will start ok but about 20mins in to the cycle it will stop, but the heating element will keep heating, bad drum motor ? IV stopped using it because it got really hot luckily I was around and noticed it had stopped so went and checked
great video and saved for future repairs ,when needed , and yes those capacitors are nasty stuff, be careful folks! I know from experience ;) ,actually got a "sting" from one while trying to repair my garden water pump,it was "good morning Derek!!!!!"
Ha ha, we’ve all done it! Glad you’re none the worse for wear. I don’t think the capacitors are dangerous as such but as you say, will give you a wake up call! Thanks for saving the video, I’m sure you’ll experience this issue with one of your machines at some point… cheers, Phil
Ive got the same dryer and it feels jammed cant turn by hand i have to force it is there anything else it could be or is something stuck ? Motor is fine not checked belt yet
Sorry for the slow reply. I had one once where something (maybe left in a garment) got between the drum and the casing. I kept rotating it by hand (it was very stiff) and it eventually fell out. Also, maybe pop the belt off of the motor and see if it rotates? Final thing, there is a carbon bearing on the back of the drum shaft, usually there is a little cover on it held on by screws, you could check that to see if it is excessively worn? Cheers, Phil
Many thanks, found that the felt lining between the drum and door had knotted up in one spot and was causing the drum to bind and was very difficult to turn by hand, removed the knot, which freed up the drum, its back working
Just done yr test in relation to capacitor and yep the motor buzzin with no movement but with a little hand off it goes. I’ll order a new capacitor rather than dryer !! 👍
Mine is a candy just over 12 months old, I've took it to bits and the drum and belt are fine it buzzes put the drum doesn't turn, I got a new capacitor and fitted it and it's still same, got the lights and buzz but the drum doesn't turn still, does this mean the motor as blown thanks
Hi, I take it you can rotate the drum by hand? If so and the new capacitor hasn’t fixed it but the motor buzzes then yes, I’m afraid it sounds like the motor is shot 😟 Such a new machine too!
@ thanks for the reply, yes the motor was getting red hot not even plugged in for some reason so it went outside and scrap man took it won't be buying anything from candy/hoover again 320 quid down the drain and candy customer service said the motor obsolete now
You’ll sort it out! Great to hear from Colorado, I have family there, always great to get back to the rockies and the fresh air and sunshine! Cheers, Phil
Hey two questions: 1) To discharge the capacitor, what parts of the capacitor do we actually touch to each end of the pliers? 2) My dryer has a slightly different issue: without any clothing I press start and it will work fine. If I put even a couple articles of clothing in, it wont start. Makes a noise maybe will seem to begin spinning for a fraction of a second and then abruptly stops. Any ideas?
Ha ha! Yes! Usually people know that really means: “Try this at your own risk ⚠️ and be careful! And if you aren’t sure, don’t do it!” Doesn’t roll off the tongue quite as easily though….
Probable the best repair video I've seen. Clear images & very easy-to-understand instructions.
Excellent problem solving guide. After changing the capacitor, my tumble dryer runs smoothly again. Thank you! PS. Same buzzing sound from the motor

Thank you. you are the only one who said to spin the drum. Bingo that was the problem.

Thanks for the detailed breakdown, I think the capacitor is my exact problem and now I know how to check it. Great video!
Thanks! Hope replacing it gets your machine going! Cheers, Phil

Had two plastic blocks fall off door where to they go !
Sorry, no blocks fell down when I did it, so I’m not sure where they came from. Somewhere in the door I presume? Cheers, Phil

Definitely still the starting capacitor. Just doesn't have enough juice to spin it
Don't try this at home? That's the whole point! We want to fix it ourselves.
