I live in Chicago and the infrastructure here are just so outdated not to mention their construction takes 10 years to complete for a 6 miles range highway. The only thing that Chicago is way ahead of China is crime, homeless and illegal immigrants.

Yes! excuses UK government gives (and other western ones) is that there are "so many" people and not enough this, or not enough that to be able to improve services and facilities. Yet China has way more people and are achieving their goals. Just last night I was watching a documentary about slum housing here in the UK and the housing providers were saying they couldn't build enough new social housing fast enough for the amount of people needing homes, and I was thinking "But China can do it, and is doing it." I then remembered the usual comments in Western media that China has "empty towns" or "empty apartment blocks" apparently just "for show." However the truth is that China practises city and housing PLANNING, so they build the apartments and other facilities ready for people to move into, instead of the Western way which is to allow the population to grow or move around with NO affordable housing and proper facilities they need.

In a rough summary, China doesn't have election, no multiple parties, no point-finger shows every 4 years. Just one party rules government. Setting up one goal to develop economy and improve people's life, then keeps working toward it for 40 years, without any break, or policy change. There is no western style politician in China, all government officials are with engineering background. There is no room for self-bragging or lip-service promising anything. just keep working and deliver. Those performed well will get promoted. After 40 years, you have today's China

However, in recent years, there have been significant changes in grassroots construction there. Let me give an example of a train. A county town has a high-speed railway with a speed of 350 kilometers per hour this year, and we also operate a slow train that serves farmers and costs one yuan per station.

Your 1987 reference immediately rekindled my boyhood memories: an 80s National Geographic report on Shanghai gradually implementing economic reforms and free market economy. There was also an interview with the mayor of Shenzhen, then a town just waking up from slumber. Terms like SEZ were being coined. I am sure nobody at that time 30-40 years ago could imagine that China would eventually achieve so much within such a short time.

0:47: Correction Jason, the picture you referred to 'that is Shanghai' 1987, is only PART of Shanghai, it's call PUDONG ie SHANGHAI EAST, from flat land developed into a FINANCIAL DISTRICT in LUJIAZUI. I used to live there for near 7 yrs within 2006-end 2012, I went when they starting to build Financial Tower, I left when they were still building that new spiral building. Within that +6.6 years, subway from 2 lines, to 13 lines in construction when I left. The speed of their work is simply amazing.
Reading or listening to the way British politicians and media talk about China as if it was a naughty child is really funny. The truth is China doesn't need Britain at all, and now that Hong Kong is firmly back in China's hands, the UK can go to the blazes and China doesn't need to deal with UK at all. A systalic blood pressure of 138 may be considered pre-hypertension. Your measurement may have been elevated by the exciting environment and moving around. I would get a digital blood pressure monitor for your home if you don't already have one. They are very affordable. Take a few measurements over the course of a few days when you are calm and relaxed. If you still get readings around 138 then I might bring it up at your next doctor appointment. You look healthy and I'm sure you're probably just fine but it's good to be cautious when it comes to health. Anyway, enjoyed your video as usual! Keep up the great work!

I have lived in UK for last 10 years guess what I have seen ? Nothing changed instead of high inflation, more homeless people everywhere and more potholes on the road, I left this July and move back with my family in Beijing, although life is more busier here everyday but I am happier with safer environment and well maintained infrastructure and amazing technology 😊

I live in the US, I keep seeing news articles from wall street journal and such, of China's economy about to collapse. At the moment, I think the economy in China is not as good as before but still ahead of the US at the moment.
