- After the jailing of a woman encouraging a mosque to be blown up, James O'Brien says we cannot be 'intellectually smug' in assuming that we won't fall to online 'radicalisation' and 'dangerous conspiracy theories'.
Julie Sweeney from Cheshire made the comments in a local community Facebook group from her home in Church Lawton, which was later reported to the police.
She pleaded guilty to sending a communication to convey a threat of death or serious harm.
More than 1,000 arrests have been made in connection with the recent nationwide unrest - with the figure now standing at 1,024.
A total of 372 adults have now been charged in connection with the recent disorder, as well as at least 65 people under the age of 18.
Violent disorder was sparked following the killing of three girls in Southport.
So far, 69 adults have been sentenced, with 64 having been jailed.

Is anyone ever going to ask where Robinson, who is unemployed, is getting money for private jets and a 4 week family holiday in a 5 star resort? Thats not money from his supporters.

If you think back to the pandemic there were lots of very bizarre policy decisions that made no sense. I remember being sat in a pub with a friend and ordering a large starter (Nachos) and he ordered a main, I ordered a beer on the app and was told I wasn't allowed it because my food wasn't a "substantial meal" but my friend was allowed a beer, we were both sat in the same pub. Surrounded by the same people You cannot follow that kind of thing blindy when it makes no sense.

What really needs to happen is a process of re-radicalisation in the opposite direction. The 'People's History' of Britain isn't really taught to the British public. You get a lot of liberal centrist takes and right wing stuff (military/police/aristoes) but very little leftist stuff in education/TV.
No education system is perfect. However; screaming into the wind about who isn't teaching what is just ridiculous. My engineer friend didn't study music. He doesn't know pitch, meter, dynamics as it pertains to songs. He also doesn't know much about the history of written languages. To suggest that your version of education is what we need is laughable..Unless you have some unique research or specific training to back up your hyperbolic statement

Tommy Robinson posted multiple videos during the Southport incident protests, each time urging people to be peaceful. The people saying he incited violence are blatantly lying. If you're going to speak about a person, at least listen to what they have to say first, otherwise all you're doing is inciting hatred yourself.

There are dangerous influencers on line who take advantage of people with social problems be it psychological or social stagnation we as a society need to address the trauma experience by people who need support and we must make people feel that they are being listen to.

I agree with James. Politicians with populist tendencies are strategically inducing cognitive dissonance on an unsuspecting public in order to deepen divisions and make it harder for more intellectually vulnerable people to reconcile conflicting ideas. They do this knowing that these people will align themselves with the dangerous side of a polarised debate. With the help of the algorithms these people become more and more entrenched in their views and less open to compromise or sensible dialogue. It becomes a race to the bottom.

I think we are all susceptible to influence on some level. I think you're just the other side of the coin though. For instance you demonise Nigel at every turn with no attempt to see past his nonsense in order to see where sensibly minded people can agree on some things. It's not about what is being said anymore, its just about who is saying it, so anything of sense on either side gets brushed over and ignored in favour of discrediting an opposing figure entirely, presenting them as if there are no redeeming qualities and no significant or nuanced opinions.
