As opposed to a good time to do a shi**y tattoo when they’re all permanent? 🤔
Seriously like some of the attitudes they have when there is an actual person who is gonna have this on their body
@@hieithefox even if they don’t care about the person and it being permanent, you would think they would care about their work being engrained on a random body for them to show off to anyone and everyone who sees it. They could say anything they want about your work and that gives you a reputation immediately

Competition or no, it's messed up that they didn't say anything about the thumbs being backwards, someones gotta live with that tattoo
Honestly, they could’ve gone to the artists and said something just before they started, and then brought it up at judging that it would’ve been wrong if they hadn’t spoken up. That was shady as hell, this is a real person’s tattoo and as artists they should’ve realized that

@@dee4864 i wouldnt really say that it was that their win was dependent on it but sure. i mean these canvases who come in probably have to sign a non-disclosure agreement stating that there will be a risk of them not liking their tattoo, with it being free at cost too, there’s just so much to what we don’t see on camera
They really let a women have a mistake in her leg permanently because they wanted 100K... humility before greed.
For real...and 100k isnt even that much. Not enough to potentially lose face or rep as an artist. They can potentially make far more if they have a good reputation and good work on the show because viewers will seek them out. But if they see how rude they are to clients, why would anyone want a tat by them?

It’s technically not even $100k, what with taxes and all.
There was a whole season dedicated to fixing any of the bad tattoos where the artists got to redeem themselves or the canvas got to choose an opposing artist to fix it.

The fact that the lady knew it was wrong and didn't correct the other artists and allowed them to permanently tattoo it on that poor woman's leg just out of greed to win a competition is beyond messed up!

I guess the old saying “The customer is always right” doesn’t work in these scenarios.
She could have go back to the design and only flipped what she needed to to not create a weird design the canvas(person) doesn’t have the knowledge of everything
@@hieithefox the Marine person specifically asked for this knife, the tattooer is responsible for tattooing what the customer wants, they check and recheck and it's literally stenciled on, OK'd and double, triple checked before they start. "No ragrets"
It’s not the canvas fault, when he said to flip it I think he meant for the handle and not the whole thing. If she didn’t flip it.. it’s still wrong. She drew the design wrong. She didn’t redrew it but just flip it.
She just had to flip the handle. He wanted the blade to read right side up, so just flip the blade and flip the handle, easy

I thought James did a really nice job of owning his mistakes on that busted pin-up. No excuses and he seemed to genuinely feel bad. Not sure how it turned out for him in the judging but THATS how you handle critique - take it, learn from it, no useless defenses.
You should see the shoes he put on her. He basically said, "If I fuck this one up, I might as well just get out of the business altogether."
Its been 2 years but if you never saw, he actually made it to the final 2 or 3 in that season. Really gorgeous final tats from him, especially the 12 hour one.
And on ink master redemption, I loved that he got straight to the point and did not defend his mistake. He even admitted in redemption that the two right feet thing flew over his head in the designing process and noticed after judging that both of his sketches had the same mistake. Of course if you haven’t seen his redemption episode he did fix it by adding shoes and touched it up.

Well, get American Traditional, but only from a shop with a thousand flash sheets on the wall. They crank that shit out daily.
All I got is American Traditional and they all look good. It’s all about the artist. What you shouldn’t do is sign up to get tattooed for a TV show🤣

Nah, dude. I've seen amazing American traditional tattoos! I even know some incredibly talented realism artists that say trad is difficult. I think some people just have a knack for it, gotta find that person!

Getting your 'significant other' done as a portrait or having their name permanently inked into you is a regrettable tattoo mistake regardless of how well it is done....
Unless you have been together with almost no problems within 10 years or more then I think you could consider it if not that is a huge mistake

@@NoelAKABigNolo perhaps you didn't understand what you saw on google. It's the same hands, theirs is just from the top view and not drawn perfectly, still the right hands and not reverse as a lot seem to be wrongfully seeing.
@@waranghira the thumb is on the opposite side, that's the problem. That's why the hands are reversed.
Imagine someone asks for something wacky and specific that’s not proportionally correct and they love the end result and the artist gets kicked of the show for tattooing what they want

Seriously it’s why I don’t like this kind of competition because they want to win so bad they don’t give a crap that the canvas is a really person and I don’t care that the people get free tattoos they still expect to not have huge errors like an fed up flag miss spelling and two right feet
@@hieithefox exactly, but its not always the artists fault. they basically force these tattoo artists to jump out of their comfort zone and set them on a timer and still expect them to pop out a perfect tattoo. rather than forcing the artists to just drop their style and do a drastically different style theyre not comfortable with, they should group them by style and they can compete like that.

You do realize these people sign up for this crap and everything is fully explained in the contract you sign.. what they design goes.. when you see canvasses whine about something its probally because they were told to
I’m just gonna put my two cents in here- I have a bachelor of fine arts with a minor in art history. I’ve created and studied a lot of artworks and the one thing I’ve noticed on this show is how often they comment on correct anatomy, proportions, etc. I am not saying I disagree that these elements are important- usually vital- to most works. Keyword being MOST. I definitely think that if it’s intentional and meshes with the style anatomy and proportions can be fudged with a little bit, as I said, if it’s intentional and makes sense. For instance- for one of the eagles, they mentioned that they felt like for that particular stance or pose the eagle was in, that the wing would never be placed where it is. For me, this did not bother me or even occur to me until they mentioned it, because of the style of the tattoo and that fact that it was a well done, intentionally executed design- now, if it was a photorealistic depiction of an eagle, maybe I would notice. Maybe. That being said, there are beautiful, photorealistic portrait paintings that are worth millions of dollars and have been recognized beyond space and time as the best of the best... and the proportions aren’t exact. I don’t know. Don’t get me wrong, I understand what they are saying and I do agree it’s an important element to factor in and pay attention to. However sometimes I look at the work they are criticizing and it doesn’t make me enjoy it any less or think it wasn’t executed well.
most million dollar artworks with incorrect proportions are usually due to style or done on purpose for a reason. not usually inexperience and lack of ability on the artists part. these guys wanted correct proportions, and failed to do it. not usually a praised area of skill
As a master of fine arts myself, I have to disagree to an extent. The eagle example is *exactly* where I cringed as soon as I saw the tattoo. It was clear it wasn't a style the artist was going for but some form of lack of skill, it's weird the client didn't comment on it but then again it's 1. A reality tv show 2. The client maybe doesn't know much about proportions and how anatomy works. I agree that proportions don't always have to be perfect or rather, realistic to real life, in fact there are many instances even in regular traditional art where body parts are drawn in a very exaggerated way. But again I just don't believe that was the case here, many times you will notice unrealistic tattoo artwork and they won't say it looks unreal or bad unless it actually does.
(then again I have only watched clips because I hate how edited, fake and spliced this show is so hey)
@@WildVee there's so many serious artitsts that never really learn correct anatomy or take it that seriously, hence it's common. It is what separates good art form amateur.
Surprising nobody has a color wheel sitting right there front & center. No matter what art we’re doing a basic color wheel brings us back to combinations that work WHEN WE’RE EXHAUSTED OR NOT THINKING PROPERLY!

Misspelling is the EASIEST thing to not screw up. I think that's the one that gets me the most.
i asked my artist about this and he said it’s because youre so focused on linework misspelling is an easy fuck up sometimes

Honest question: if you're getting your first tattoo, would you want your tattooist telling you all the things wrong with the tattoo they just did or not? I understand this is a six hour competition but having the tattooist venting their mistakes to the virgin canvas is kinda awful.

Buddha as depicted in the tattoo is fictional. He wasn’t some happy go lucky fat guy. So yes he is real but the modern pop culture Buddha is NOT the real one.
There's no academic consensus that Buddha was definitely a real person. The historical writings about him **could** have been speaking about a real person but they are not contemporaneous which means his existence is in doubt and he may be a fictional character created post hoc to explain the origin of Buddhism.

Idk why they were so hung up on linework having to be black. The brown looks softer and way better for a human, and the colored lines everywhere else looked really nice as opposed to lining everything in black so it looks like a kid's coloring book

I’m confused as to how it’s Katie’s fault for the backwards hands? In the clip Aaron himself said that the hands look weird. Cleen Rock was the one that kept saying it’s fine. When other artist mess up a detail it’s that artist fault. I feel like viewers are blaming Katie instead of Aaron and Cleen who are responsible because they were a fan favorite.
Its not about fan favorite, its about duty to the client. They should have insisted to help save the client from a lifetime of embarrassment.
Right! it’s not other peoples responsibility or job to correct him or tell him what he did wrong that’s what he supposed to do or already know that’s not their problem…especially on a competition show they need to direct their anger towards the tattoo artist that’s his fault and he knew what he was doing. The canvas signed up to be on a show to get a free tattoo what do you expect🤷🏽♀️
I agree, I think most people commenting here missed the part where Aaron did mention that the hands looked weird and Cleen totally brushed that off, because in his view Buddha was just a "goofy-ass character". Shows how little he cared, not a good look for him at all.

I HATE how customer service is such a small topic on ink master. If a change of genre, size and content, even talking someone out of a tattoo, is what makes the canvas most happy, it should be done. Making the canvas happy, finding out what's the best for them, should be the #1 requirement in this show. Ignoring the customers wishes, even if the tattoo is flawless, should eliminate the artist.

I've gotten a few tattoos from Sebastian, my husband has most of his work done by him.. I gave him creative control over the beginning of my sleeve, I just had back surgery, so its going to be a while before I can have it finished.. but I won't go to anyone else.. he actually fixed a really bad tat on my neck.. hes a great guy..

For a while I've considered getting a tatto, however, Ink Master would be the last place I'd go to get it

Nah; Gia was sent home because her pinup was overworked, even if it wasn't uglier. She put her canvas through unnecessary pain by packing the skin wall-to-wall with skin toned ink instead of leaving open skin for the pinup to breathe, which is a huge no-no. Boneface's pinup *WAS* aesthetically worse, but since it was applied better and also had the extra challenge of being a male pinup they cut him a break. That coupled with Gia's report card (the worst out of everyone) meant she should have been sent home before Boneface.
I do think Mike should have left before Gia though; his Pinup was just all kinds of wrong.

I've seen Kabar knives in real life with the "finger guard" being higher on the top of the knife (opposite of the blade), rather than the blade side, especially on knives that have guards on both sides of the knife. Don't know why some are made that way, but what he is saying isn't always true, have even seen them on ones that are stamped with USMC.
