    A good comb or pick (i get less snags with Chicago picks, everyone is different) always comes first DO NOT Skip that, but Aberlite is for real the top dogs when it comes to the end game of maintaining a lengthier beard.
    I did alright without a heat brush and just a cheap blow dryer, somehow did okay with a cheaper not recommended heat-brush, but if you can swing it the Aberlite Go 2 or Pro??? Completely changed the game and lives up to the hype. Sooner you can get it better chance you won't tear, pull, snag, singe, or any other nasty things while having a tool that is as easy and safe as it can get to use. Aberlite is what gave me the power to stop thinking i needed to trim so much, actually go for length. Its so good it actually changed my beard goals when i couldn't see it as a feasibility before because no matter what i tried things were just off.

    • @DanCBearded
      @DanCBearded  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am so glad you are digging the Go 2. For some reason people don't want to believe when many rave about a product, but man it is just true

  • @BigBaldandBeardiful

    I still use my Boars hair brush every day but only on my mustache and then I use it to very gently run over the outside of my beard to sorta tame the wild hairs back into the bulk of the beard. And then I redo it with my fingers but I like the feel of the boars hair brush dialing it in first. But I don't press hard and curve it to my cheek.
    No no no in fact I use a new technique with my heated brush on my chin where I have a natural dip to pull my hairs up and out where the dip is and then gently run the heated brush back down without pressing in and it completely gets rid of my chin dip!
    Another awesome video Dan! Keep em coming!! 👊

    My barber uses a heated brush now when she cuts my beard (was using blow dryer b4). I need 2 put her on carbon fiber combs (she uses wood😅).

  • @xTynomite
    @xTynomite ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video & tool tips!
    Carbon fiber combs & adding heat in the beard routine have been game changers when it comes to styling. Carbon fiber because of its versatility & durability. Heat because it aids in hair control & softness.
    Ty Dan & keep it up!

    This is a great summary of the tools one will need as they progress on the beard journey! The brush definitely helps early on 👍 the exfoliation of the brush helps the itchy feeling in those first few weeks/months for sure! Also, learning that I combed in toward my jawline and created a dip (which Dan mentioned in a previous video) made a big difference in my beard style and how I felt about it. I have yet to use heat on my beard, even a blow dryer 🙃 I haven't really felt the need for it, but will likely try it in the future as I may like the styling better 😊 thanks Dan! You rock man 🤘 and thanks Aberlite for the giveaway!

    I had a cheap heated brush, it was designed for head hair, and was too big with a convex shape. I could never really get it to do what I needed... I purchased an Aberlite, one of the less expensive models, was about twice the price of the cheap one, but works 100X better... I can only Imagine what the top end ones are like...
    I've discovered for me (When I had a beard 😪) if I used only the brush without the blow dryer, I want to remove the big waves but not loose the texture. For my hair I used a fairly low temperature 290 degrees F, and moved relatively slowly. I also found that if I used the brush kinda like a round brush, I would dig in from the back side and twist the brush out, then pull it through, it helped with the dips...
    I am excited to see if all the things I learned will help in my new journey that starts Dec 1 😎
    I have my Grovember shirt on as I am watching today

    • @theartistformerlyknownasbr4849
      @theartistformerlyknownasbr4849 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay, as an addendum to the heated brush... I've had three heated brushes now... Each was double the cost, the first one was too big, had convex (rounded outwards) tines that were hard and pokey... The Aberlite compact (Pocket?) was a better size for the beard, had more comfortable tines and a concave (rounded in) shape, it also had double the heat settings. Even though as I mentioned this brush was 100X better than the cheap one, the Aberlite Pro is even that much better than the compact. I wasn't expecting it to be THAT much better, but a combination of the shape of the tines, the heating element, and the amount of heat settings, make it WELL worth the price... I finally feel like I can get the temperature right, I'm currently using the 280 degree setting and loving it...

    I almost only use a low diameter roundbrush these days. Its what I have found makes for the best shaping of the beard. Especially on days I take the time to apply some heat too. Heat + tension = direction, as someone wise once said ;)

    Before I was brought onto a blow dryer and comb (blowout method), I'd always have the dip in my beard from my old crappy heated brush and I didn't know why. I started using the blow dryer and heated brush (not as aggressive lol) and it fixed my dip and did wonders for my beard!

Really hard to get through in text that it genuinely takes lots of practice Aka trial and error. Stepping out of your comfort zone and not just resorting to the easy “it’s not for me”

      @@DanCBearded Good call! My routine can also change slightly on the day. Did I just shower? Is my house a little cold/hot? Humidity? Over time you learn to make the small adjustments to get consistent results! Practice! I NEED it before I can leave the house lol.

    I never used heat in my previous beard journeys. This most recent one I have and do daily. It's a game changer and makes me feel more confident about how it looks.

    The tools you use really do make a difference! I started out with one of those cheap stamped combs that pulls out hair. Stay away from those and get yourself a good Kent or Chicago comb to use. Iam using a small pocket Kent, a wooden, and an oxhorn comb with a boars hair brush. As for heat, I have not tried it yet, but I would like to. I cannot justify the cost at this time so winning one would be awesome! Trimming your beard might sound scary at first, but let me tell you that I am much happier trimming my own beard than going to a barber and coming away disappointed. Sure you will make mistakes, but you learn and get better. Plus you making a mistake feels better than someone else screwing up your beard. It is easier to accept. I have a Brio and it is worth every penny to get a good trimmer to use.

    I’m still working in the routine of using the heated brush everyday. For the new beardsman it’s hands down a great investment for a luscious and clean looking beard!

    Love this video, and considering I keep a shorter beard compared to most I highly recommend a boars hair brush. Tip for those looking to get a boars hair brush if you have sensitive skin like I do I highly recommend a soft bristle brush and firm bristle brushes tend to be rough on my skin under my beard!

    A tool that works really well for me that I don’t hear a lot of people talk about is a brush (not a boars hair, I currently have a wet brush and a denman). My beard is super curly and sometimes I need to run a brush through it before I can get a comb through.

    I used to only use a boars hair brush even with a long beard until I learned about the Chicago comb from you. Now I use the comb to spread oil and fluff it out, then the brush to shape in flyaway hairs. I don't like the idea of using heat-- I have a terminal length mustache that I have trained over years and also shape with butter into a handlebar. I've been doing a handlebar so long that my mustache now shapes into one even with no product or shaping. I've always been curious about a heated brush, though.

    • @jolly8322
      @jolly8322 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I forgot to say, the last key tool I use is a tiny Kent comb for my mustache. Get my handlebar parted perfectly.

    I have a brush and a Chicago Comb #2. I find the teeth-spacing on the latter pretty wide. Going wider seems counterintuitive to putting control on the beard, for me, but I'd give heat a go.

    • @DanCBearded
      @DanCBearded  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’d be surprised how much tension you can get with all of the Chicago combs!

  • @C4rnal063

    Recently picked up a couple of Chicago Combs (No1 and No6) and what a gamechanger! I’m used to Kent combs, which are fantastic high quality combs in their own right but Chicago is in a league of their own. I didnt realize how large these combs were though. I thought the No6 would be a ”standard” size comb but its almost twice that size and way too big for my beard in its current state. Need to grow it a bit bigger before it’s combing efficiently on the wide teeth side. And the No1 is supposed to be a pocket/travel comb but it’s much closer to standard size, so that will be my daily comb for now and the 6 will have to chill on a shelf for a few more months. For my pocket i’ll stick with my Kent 20T for now.
