EP133: Latest updates on Cody, WY and Heber Valley, UT Temples

- On this episode of Mormonish Podcast, Rebecca and Landon give updates on both the Cody, WY and Heber Valley Temple, UT situations as they continue to play out.
Both cities have active citizens' groups who are going through proper legal channels to try to change the proposed temple sites to locations more in line with zoning regulations and the look and feel of the town.
It's very interesting to look at these two situations as a whole. The church is using very similar strategies in each city to make sure their planned temples are built as intended. A lot can be learned from awareness of both situations.

Great reporting and investigation. I appreciate your efforts and the work that goes into this.
The more and more episodes you guys do, the more and more this becomes my favorite podcast in the Mormon world
One frustrating component for both of these temples is that the lack of members in the districts will almost certainly mean that the temples are only open sometimes. Maybe Heber will be able to hold regular hours. I would not be surprised if the Cody temple will be open by appointment only.
Its bullying...the Saviour has left the building..
These newer Temples are "billboards", advertising for LDS Inc. Why else would they need to be illuminated beyond reason, and in spite of local opposition? And of course... the CHURCH has to win.
Why does the Church have to win? Just curious! 😮
@michaelb $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
When someone shows you who they are, believe them. Dishonest, deceptive, unaccountable bullies is LDS inc.
You both keep rolling out great content👏
Shrines to hubris and vanity
I hope in the future, that the citizens vote every Mormon out of any office or place of authority; and keep it that way. I hope the people of Cody don't have a short memory. I hope they remember this incident for along time and never trust another Mormon, because they will do as they are told, and not by the citizens or community they represent, but their church authorities.
Thank you for the updates
I just want to point out the new eyesore they built that I have to see every time I go up the I-215 freeway at 4500 South in the Salt Lake City area. Just speaking of pop-up temples.
I hear California is looking for people to replace all the people who have left for a free state if you're uncomfortable here.
Community members, aka voters, must find out the religion of every candidate and know mormons vow their very life to do whatever is asked of them to build the mormon cause over any community desire. Their fundamental allegiance is not to citizens but to a corporation masquerading as a tax-free church.
@IAmJ. 🌈🌈🌈
This temple drama is a prefect example of why Mormons were runout of Jackson county, navoo and almost everywhere they lived.
And, literally, out of the country.
@@nancynelson9307 oh you’re right. Don’t always think of it that way but it was. Good point.
Heber is in Wasatch County.. Park City is in Summit County, my parents property is in Summit.. they weren't able to sign the petition...
Thank R & L... I can't wait to see Landon's green beard for Saint Patrick's Day.
Big Hugs!
My relatives settled Heber and Wasatch County. A lot weren't active in the church, but they'd be ashamed at their ancestors that don't want a temple in their area.
@@wheels636... The Temple is welcomed, the exact location and lighting is what the controversy is all about... Remember:
Jesus said love everyone treat them kindly too, when your heart is filled with love, others will love you.
Peace!
@ZakMakoff It wouldn't matter where they put it these same people and other's would say the same thing. So all the church can do is try and take the lights down a bit. To be honest I wouldn't want to fight against the Lord's work.
Should I still wear the, "I'm Mormon" T-shirt President Monson sent me... I grew up in the Valley View Stake?
The church is not as introspective as you think it should be. More money than god means you don’t have to think of others. Just as Jesus would want.
As a member of my city council, it’s baffling that the Planning and Zoning Commission didn’t know the procedure for removing the steeple in the proposal. We have a city attorney sit at all of these meetings. This whole situation is crazy.
Unfortunately the city Council doesn’t trust the attorney either. He is a contract attorney that also represents a highly LDS school district so possibly has some bias. Emails showed that the city Council did not trust him to give them accurate information either.
Thank you for all your podcasts, research, and insight. I truly appreciate what you do.
Landon, you have some sound issues that are apparent in several episodes. When you speak, there is a vibrating, droning sound accompanying your voice. Idk if it's something vibrating in the room, table beneath the mic, or in the mic itself.
Any sound people out there who can weigh in?
Excellent
A tip up bldg can be tipped down too. Once the legal wrangling is over, taking it apart and moving parts to the next billboard location can happen.
@IAmJust. 🌈🌈🌈
If people only knew- and could possibly comprehend-
THE REAL IMPORT*
OF THIS ISSUE ...
THANK YOU for hanging on to this DAWG like a pair of
blue ticks!!!

Great coverage of the issues as always.
The LDS Mormon corporation are just self aware entitled bullies.
50:21 i have yet to get a answer of how a temple blesses a town other than increased property value... Increased property value = higher property tax... A blessing? I think not
It's funny that y'all should bring up Walmart in Heber, if I remember correctly they DID have to go through the democratic process and get a vote on whether or not they could build in the valley. 2007 ish? Really shows the double standard here. Great work as always you two!!
You really don't want a vote in Heber and Midway where the majority of people are active faithful members.
I guess these poor communities have found out who the bully on the playground is... and it's the Mormon church.
Thanks for your great coverage of these issues!
The folks on the board can investigate on their own.
well done
Thanks!
I was born in Heber, grew up in Midway, and my ancestors can be found in the Heber and Midway cemeteries going back to the 1850's.
The temple is not the first big Mormon scisum. In the late 1970s, there was the selling beer on Sunday issue. Wasatch County sold beer on Sunday, but Utah County did not. Therefore, the Mormon anti beer segment wanted to stop selling beer on Sunday. The issue was extremely controversial. At the end of the day, the County Commission continued the sale on Sunday because, despite the moral outrage, the tax revenues were too tempting (Wasatch County was poor then).
I have many stories of good old Ezra Taft Benson meddling in local politics. Midway First Ward Bishop Roy Kohler having multiple affairs as Bishop. Do the research, he got one woman pregnant, she burned down his dairy and the just disappeared. Her name was/is Gertrude Stricket. You want corrupt Wasatch County. It is a paradise for an investigative reporter
Are the temples off-white?
Stowell lying for the "lord"...bravo
I hope they find a Native American burial site in the Heber Valley lot and they can’t build on that site.
@lamrom. Really?
It’s not 1830 and there aren’t 6 of us any more. This podcast is only for folks who hate the church. I’m not a very nice person so I will with draw before I embarrass myself.
This channel is not for those who hate the LDS Church. This channel is for those who disagree with the LDS Church. Go in peace. Find the official channel for LDS Church.
18:45 We are all biased. Stating that the LDS church threatened “We’ll sue you into oblivion” is probably not accurate and a biased statement. The LDS church has been persecuted for trivial things since its inception, and having convictions to your god and religion isn’t a bad thing. I’ve never seen a temple that is an eyesore and a steeple is trivial. So why try to stop it except for bias against the LDS religion. Nothing new in this anti-LDS group trying to tear down something beautiful.
They are putting temples is areas zoned for homes. This impacts traffic, taxes and homeowners views. There are actually laws in place regarding the height of buildings and steeples. How about they just obey the law of the land?
Churches and temples are a good things for communities. This is something that happens all across the country. This channel is for people who love to see the worst. Always sour grapes. Learn to see the good in things instead.
What a misrepresention of what the temple covenants mean. I can't believe people are so week minded to be mislead by people who have left the church. I guess when the spirit withdraws your left to navigate on your own.
Hmmm, it seems the Spirit knows when to recuse itself but only members who have covenants in the temple don’t..people who swore an oath to the church in the temple should have recused themselves from the process because they cannot be impartial. We spent 50 years each in the church and temple we fully understand the temple covenants and the promises you are making.
Maybe it's you that doesn't understand the covenants @wheels636?
@mormonishpodcast1036 I'm sorry you've lost your way, thankfully it's the Savior who will be your judge and not people like me because I would say people who have had the spirit and then had it withdraw are not going to be in a good place in my mind.
@@debbieshrubb1222 I sure do understand them having been a temple worker for many year's. I try and live up to how the Savior would want me to live.
@@wheels636 🤣🤣🤣 @wheels636 so you are judging!!! So how come your loving, merciful God is going to judge harshly? You are oozing condescension and judgement.
Ooh wow…love to have antis leading the way.
