  • Whites Electronics announcement to dealers that they are going out of business! It’s sad but Cell Phone technology and software updates to your Detector have taken over! Nautilus and Tesoro also American companies are also gone. New machines have LCD screens with computer chips that can do things with software the old machines can’t do. Rechargeable battery’s, Wireless Headphones, waterproof and telescoping shafts are now on all the top detectors. Simplex+ & Equinox are leading the way!

I've had the Prizm 4 through V3i. I was dissapointd with the V3i when it first came out. It was a pain in the butt with software issues. I finally gave up on it and told my dealer that it's heading to my burn pile. My dealer said bring it in and he would swap me for a MXT All Pro. He was happy and I was Happy. Years later I had to sell the MXT. Covid came a long and went taking whites electronics with it. Garrett bought whites . And I went to Minelab. Too Bad whites closed. Many locals had to find another job. If i ever see a MXT in a yard sale. Maybe i will buy it out of good mempries and respect to the good ole days.

IMO, White's over engineered the V3i, It is very inconsistent and way to heavy to swing for a few hours. They had the right idea allowing so many aspects of customization and tweaks to get the detector to perform most of the setting would step on other settings rendering it useless. The only way to recover it was by a master reset.. I have about 400 hours on the V3i and found it to be very frustrating knowing you walked right over good targets. They should have modernized the DFX and XLT and invested time into product design. My V3i was factory serviced in August 2020 and now has a new firmware and new beta menu items. that shows they were adapting. But maybe a little too late. I will miss them.

If you truly have the beta menus I hope you still have it and know it’s worth. I cant fill one hand with the people who know how to load them up, and your machine would be a unicorn in the wild. Someday it may become common knowledge, but at this point a machine with those hidden menus exposed is invaluable to its cult following. For the record, my V3i has never given me problems. Remains one of the very best discriminators on the planet, and parrots back at you your own technical knowledge. It was made by egg heads for egg heads. It shouldn’t have been a general public machine.

Too bad about Whites going out of business, I know its old news, but I actually wasn't aware of it until recently. The only detector I still use is a White's Eagle Spectrum which I bought back in the 90's sometime. I can't say enough good things about this machine, I don't believe I have ever had it break down on me and needed to get it repaired. It's a real stable detector, and gets great depth, although I'm sure there are probably newer detectors that get better depth nowadays. I've probably paid for it 5 times over with just the clad coins I have found with it, not counting everything else. It is a heavy detector to swing all day, so I may purchase a new detector one of these days just to get one that weighs less because I'm not getting any younger, lol.

I loved Whites and was hopeful for the V3i but it was worthless on the beach. I loved the metal boxes, they were early with the ergonomics and decent weight with Xlt. The Xlt needed a faster chip, the eagle 2 S/L 90 1/2 was the best single frequency detector made, should have miniaturized that one. The beachunter ID was old, crappy Minelab reject technology I assume because it was a joke. Poor depth, poor id, etc. The DRC actually worked on the salt beach, but only had 7 volts of transmit power = no depth. Garrett is only flourishing because of security and military detectors, they are way behind too. Fisher needs a new lightweight multi-frequency or they’re next. Aqua pulse was a big disappointment too. Now that Nokta-Makro came on the scene, they give great products at great prices. Minelab is great on technology but poor quality control and support on older units. Give me a Deus 2 and a legend, all anyone needs.

So i question the updates to the software in these new machines. But what do i know. But what i think i hear u saying about unmasking is. So like Whites MXT Pro, isn't competing with a Equinox because this new software enables it to unmask targets that a machine like the Whites MXT couldn't never get? How much better can machines get with these software updates? Do we really need the latest and greatest updates? I really don't know that's why i am asking questions. I have a Whites MXT Pro and i just bought the new X-Terra Pro. Haven't used it yet but i hope it's better then the Safari i had because that machine couldn't out perform the MXT. When it comes to discrimination, which is an important feature of you care about the future of the hobby and not leaving torn up lawns in your wake, Minelab and Whites still have the best at the top of their lineups with the V3i and CTX. I assume your talking about the stored amp hrs or size of the batteries. If you open the plastic box containing the factory rechargeable battery you will see they used nothing more then generic high amp hr batteries. You can easily buy these same size batteries or even larger capacity. I have done this with all my Whites Units. I own 6 detectors at present. Nice thing about Whites unlike my Nox is the ability to change out batteries in the field and keep going. I understand that Whites just did not modernize this overall design but never did this leave them behind in terms of reliability, longevity, and overall performance. Having been to their Oregon site twice I can say with 100% honestly everyone there was absolutely great and they took great measures to produce good products and the best customer service I have every seen. Such a shame to loose this icon of development and support for our hobby. There will never be another like them.@@craigtalley

Its sad but true. That equinox 800 is just absolutely amazing. Minelab keeps creating these new technologies that are amazing. Look at Minelabs GPZ 7000. That machine uses a new technology called Zero Voltage Transmission (ZVT) Technology. I havent seen anyone even try to compete with it......... Minelab is going to have a complete monopoly over the industry if someone doesnt step up to the plate to compete.
