      @@marksmith4892 I'm white, 51yo, I have a house, trucks, a new car and, have not a clue in the world what would/could be my credit score. That subject is a total mystery to me. Hahaha. I guess I'm good enough to go on not knowing at this point. Is the number you posted good on the 'credit scale' ?... maybe I just didn't get it if you were just joking?.. 🍻

    • @marksmith4892
      @marksmith4892 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fj400007 a credit score is based on some complex formula that determines what the risk is to a lender if you were to take out a loan such as a mortgage. Basically if you avoid having too much debt, don't apply for too many credit cards, pay your bills on time, avoid having any bills sent to collections for lack of payment, etc. then your credit score will be very high because those are the main determining factors. A score > 700 gets you the best benefits like lowest interest rates on loans etc. At 830 I'm through the stratosphere lol. Also you should know that there are two ways to check your credit score. The first is a so-called "soft" check, which can typically be found through websites where you get an account associated with a credit card. On those websites is typically an option to check your FICO score. There are different types of credit scores which are usually more or less the same but they measure your risk for different types of loans. For example, there's one for mortgages, one for retail purchases (which is FICO), etc. but I digress. A "hard" check is one that I think you might have to pay for but for whatever reason this one is deemed to signal serious intent. If you take out a mortgage, for example, then your credit score will take a hit because that's a huge loan amount. Thus, "soft" credit checks do not impact your credit score but "hard" credit checks can reduce your score a bit without even taking out a mortgage or what not. Just the check itself increases your credit risk. It's messed up but that's how it works. I don't care for the fact that people are treated as formulas.

      @@marksmith4892 thanks for all the information brother, the more I know the more I intend to totally keep away from credit cards even it hurts my 'score' . I kept only a Visa cashback that I make sure to keep clean every month. As I'm aging, a lot of my debts are getting paid off to get ready for retirement. It's pretty much my version of that 'formula '...

    • @marksmith4892
      @marksmith4892 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fj400007 about credit cards, what I told you wasn't actually complete. If you apply for a lot of them, then your credit score does take a temporary hit, but if you keep them open and show that you can pay all your bills on time, then it actually increases your credit over the long term because what you're doing is proving your credit worthiness with volume. I think the idea is that you show discipline by either racking up a lot of bills but paying all of them on time or else having the ability to rack up bills but refraining from doing so. Regarding retirement, if you're 51, you need to start IMMEDIATELY. Put all your money into a Roth 401(k), make sure your 401(k) is turned into a Roth. Ask your advisor, he will fill you in on details. If you have enough disposable income after maximizing your annual contribution to that, then also open a Roth IRA, which is essentially the same thing except that the maximum allowable annual contribution is different. Max that one out too if you can. Also work 'till 70 if health permits and buy disability insurance policies. Disability insurance will not be costly even though you might think it is because the risks trade off as you age. If you're young, you're unlikely to suffer a long term disability, but if you do, the insurance company is on the hook till age 70. If you're old, you're more likely to have a disability, but the ins. co. is only on the hook 'till 70. So pick up those policies so you can keep funding your Roths. Depending on your family situation, if you find that you are short on the funds you need to live comfortably in retirement, you might consider an annuity that is like a gamble against you dying sooner rather than later. The way it works is that you get paid a monthly amount that is much higher than what you would get from interest on your retirement fund, but the trade off is that if you die younger, then you leave nothing to beneficiaries. On the other hand if you die older, then you will have received from the annuity much more than your retirement fund. In this way you live comfortably until you're gone. That's just an option for you. Speak to an annuity expert. There are a variety of other options as well. For example if you're married then you can get an annuity like that where you receive payments until dead but then your wife would receive something like half your payments until she is dead. (rationale is, half the expenses since only just her at that point.) But max out your Roth savings NOW! If you do, then you will have options and be OK.

    I'm white and a neighbor of mine (black gal) invited me to a barbecue she was having. When I got there, I was the only white person. Of course I noticed right away. No one else really seemed to. Everyone was busy eating and passing around delicious food. I really didn't feel the least bit uncomfortable.
    The funny part of the story was 2 gals were standing there talking about potato salad and how to make it. One of them said, "Ya know, I just hate the way white folks make potato salad." The entire party went silent and everyone looked straight at me. It was like a scene out of a movie where you heard the needle scratch on a record and it gets quiet.
    The girl who said it looked right at me and started apologizing up and down. I had one of the best laughs ever because of the look on her face when she saw me after her comment. The entire place roared with laughter.
    She was so upset. I told her that she didn't say anything wrong and she certainly didn't say anything racist about white people. Gave her a big hug and we all went back to eating great food and having a great time visiting.
    Over the next few years we all became close friends.

      GunnySGT1911 so I say "I hate black people" as a joke im not spreading hate if it is a joke. You could say if you take away context it is hateful but its is not hateful as a joke because jokes are jokes or not to be taken seriously also a small joke like that should be taken to its logical extremes because if you mix poison and food ultimately the poison will win.

    1. Stretch your voice because you're going to be laughing alot.

    • @eudaimonistic
      @eudaimonistic 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jack pretty much pinned the tail on it. Comedy doesn't have to work as well as this content does to still be good. I just think it's funnier to talk about lived experiences than it is to appeal to broad platitudes that we already hear enough from the people who REALLY take themselves seriously. At least, in regards to their ideologies.
      Comedy is an opportunity to get away from all of that. Notice how when he refers to white people, he's basically talking about unnamed people he's actually interacted with? None of the "everyone is this, everyone is that." (insert demographic of preference for 'everyone'). He applies it to a broader stereotype sure, but not with some kind of spite, hatred, or malice. We live in a world that increasingly wants us to have those emotions in response to anything that isn't already what we think or live.
      Point I'm trying to make: It's great to see storytelling in comedy and to see it done so energetically in a time where most people just want us at each other's throats. This video makes me want to buy this guy a beer.
      And isn't that one of the best features of comedy?

    • @holynightofserenitea

      Eric Logan I don't hold malice when I say I hate black people ironically is that ok?

    • @eudaimonistic
      @eudaimonistic 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      To say you hate black people ironically is kind of a difficult picture to paint. Kind of like a neighbor letting you borrow a tool, and as you walk away, you say "I hate black people". That would be like the only ironic way to say that phrase that I can think of, and even then, why would anyone?
      Hatred is malicious. I'm not sure what you're trying to say. I don't equate things like stereotypes with hatred and malice because they aren't the same thing. You can however, have both at the same time, like using racial epithets and profiling. I'm not sure where the disconnect is here. Bigotry is wrong. Does it need further saying? It's possible to stereotype without being a bigot. It's done well in this video.

People had to "check" their vehicle Key's in when they arrived and usually directions to a tent location when they went to retrieve them..no drunk's driving. In addition, others would be asked to do the wagon train circle around the other vehicles.. White dude at a white dude's 40th birthday party. I'd planned to go "home", woke up on his couch in a livingroom full of people the next morning. I apparently got into a debate with US Park rangers about homelessness *my sitch* vs long-term camping, somehow fed the fire without getting scorched, almost fell into the fire twice, started nodding off outside because I was more comfortable on the ground (I'd popped by earlier in the day to shower, so it wasn't a hygiene thing), and woke up bright-eyed and bushy tailed because I'd eaten so much during the party that I was either still drunk or had had enough mixers I stayed hydrated.
      I had my camp gear with me, & could've easily slept on the trail OTW to my camp, but yeah: everyone stays safe at a cookout no matter if you're black, white, purple, or homeless. You get the invite, you're under the aegis of hospitality.

    I was at a family picnic when an old blackman walked up and started serving himself a playe of food. My oldest brother said, "uncle Leroy have a seat and a beer". This old black man was eating, drinking, and talking having a good time. Aftet about an hour a middle aged black lady came over and screamed, "Daddy, what are you doing"?! The old man replied, "the food is better over here". At which point she dragged away uncle Leroy (probably not his real name). Then my older brother Jorge said, "We don't have an uncle Leroy".

      I'm a chef, and agree that anything over medium for a steak is fucked. But, if you want a juicy well done steak, the key is to flip it every 20-25 seconds.
      As for a burger, you need to cook that all the way through, or you're asking for food poisoning. The reason you can cook a steak blue, is because the bacteria sits only in the surface. But when you mince the meat, you're mixing that bacteria all the way throughout. Cooking a burger to medium is also giving the bacteria the perfect breeding ground of warmth, darkness, and moisture.

      Stormcrow Legendary not salt, season salt. It’s salt plus barbecue spices, chili powder, Cajun spice, a little bit of brown sugar, paprika, all that stuff. Speaking of which, paprika was first cultivated by Magyars and Slavs, in other words, Europeans, even if a rarer variety of European in the US.

    • @Volkbrecht
      @Volkbrecht 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never really got that. Why season your food into being unrecognizable? Why not go for something you like eating right from the start? It's the same with cooling any drink to the point where all it does is numbing your taste buds. You don't like beer? Why even drink it, then? Nothing wrong with sticking to juice and soda, you can always dilute it with vodka if you want to get wasted.

    • @PorcupinePunched
      @PorcupinePunched 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Volkbrecht So...are you saying you just don't season your food? Proper seasoning brings out the flavor of the food. Some people don't know what seasonings should go on a food. Salt enhances flavor, but season salt is just an abomination. If you haven't tried basting your steak with garlic butter and rosemary, you're missing out. If you don't throw that bay leaf in your pot of soup, I feel bad for you.

For every bowl of potato salad, there's gonna be a peach pie, apple pie, and an ice cream cake made to look like a football or snowman. (depending on the time of year) Every kid at the party is mandated to have at least a slice of cake and/or ice cream cone in their hands by the end of the day.
