    I have 2 ponds at the moment. 1 has fish with turtle's, the other just everyday pond fish. The latter has a linner & the Turtle one I cemented garden slabs to the base, everything's fine with both.
    My 3rd pond that I will be making will be MUCH bigger, I already have a few sheets of toughend glass (one being 98 inches long), that one will has a slanting base so any waste goes in that direction & I will put floor tiles (light/medium blue or green) tiles on the base so I can see the fish better, particularly the darker ones.

    Im building one now 6x 12 digging it by hand and pouring a concrete pad and cinderblock by hand . Wish me luck .

      Awesome! Best of luck! The best advice I have is if you ever feel any kind of pain while working, it's best to stop as to not injure yourself. Or if you feel yourself losing proper form while digging or lifting due to tiredness, it's better to stop. It's so easy to get hurt

    Lol you got in shape digging uses muscles your not use to but after a week or two of doing it get easier .

    Use unions on your plumbing. 10 yrs down the road you'll be able to easily remove plumbing that needs repairs.

    The skimmer placement is fine. Because the koi will see you and feed in front of pond you don't want the koi bumping into the skimmer and food you just thru In the pond would go In the skimmer. The liner yeah i was gona tell you those plastic ones don't last. They can crack in the in the folds. I Wouldn't concrete the cap stone. You might have to change the liner in a few years.

    • @TobiasHolenstein
      @TobiasHolenstein  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's true, I was also thinking maybe if I had it closer to the front wall it wouldn't be as visible, but I think it'll be fine where it is. I'll see how it goes with the liner, It has a 20 year warranty so hopefully they will replace it if something happens

    I may have missed it but what were the dimensions of the pond? and how many gallons does it hold. I'm wanting to make a pond and I will have to build a retaining wall just on the front side because I'm digging into the side of a hill. Thanks for sharing how you did it as it will help me because I have no masonry experience.

    This is a freaking huge pond 😮
    Any sites you recommend for a pond build??
    Thanks

    • @TobiasHolenstein
      @TobiasHolenstein  ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't really look at any sites in particular to help me build it, but I did watch a bunch of youtube videos. When it came to the bottom drain installation, watching the Pond Digger's youtube channel really helped. I bought a bunch of my supplies from this site called Playitkoi. I have the whole build up to today documented on my channel. If you have any questions on how to do any particular step I can help you find the video where I did it 🙂

    how much did this pond total up to if you dont mind me asking?

    • @TobiasHolenstein
      @TobiasHolenstein  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At this point I would like to say that I'm probably hovering around the $2000 mark, but I'll be sure to do a detailed accounting once the pond is completely finished. I still have a couple larger expense that will add on to the cost. I'm hopping it will be a total cost of somewhere around $3000-$3500

    • @kevinnguyen4814
      @kevinnguyen4814 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TobiasHolenstein ahh ok thanks, im currently running 2 koi “ponds” with intex pools like you have with your fish. but im very interested in putting them in the ground in a real pond similar to yours. i just dont know the cost yet and dont wanna go head first then realizing its a lot more money than i want to spend and regret starting the project and not finishing it. thanks again.

    • @TobiasHolenstein
      @TobiasHolenstein  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kevinnguyen4814 No problem, yeah I was able to save quite a bit of money by not having to pay for labor, and my filter will be DIY, so I'll save some money there too. So I think if you put aside a few thousand for the pond, it can be done. If you choose to buy the pro ready made filters and stuff, it can get much more expensive
