U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress SCREAMING Takeoff from Abbotsford Airport!

- This past weekend, the U.S. Air Force sent one of their B-52 Stratofortresses to the Abbotsford Airshow in British Columbia.
The Abbotsford Airshow typically has a great line-up of aircraft on static display, and this was the first time a B-52 had been here in a couple of years. These jet bombers have been in service with the U.S. Air Force since 1955, and have been, quote, the backbone of the country's strategic bomber force.
Powered by 8 Pratt and Whitney TF33 engines, these slightly newer B-52H models are the last variant still in service. This particular B-52 was built in the early 1960s and is based at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. It stayed on static display for all three days of the show and then left early on Monday morning heading back home.
I've never had the chance to see a B-52 flying for myself, so wanting to hear these classic engines before they eventually get replaced with much quieter ones, I made the trip over from Calgary to see it depart after the show!
Enjoy this spectacularly loud departure!

The Unstealth Bomber
Smokey AntiStealth Bomber 😅😂😂😂
@@stanleovart But still: The backbone/ spine bomber.
Awesome! I was a rookie Aircraftsman in Cold Lake AB from 1966-1974. I worked primarily on the CF 104s, but almost everything else that came transiting through there from the USA or other NATO Nations. One of the few I never got to see was the venerable B52 except when passing by Minot AFB from time to time. Thank you for this up close and personal view of that great old bird. Many great things were made in the USA. My favorite of all time is still the F104 Starfighter. I still love those beautiful howling J79 missiles! There's nothing else like them. RS, Maj Ret. Alberta, Canada.
Great video. I was lucky enough as a young Cub Scout to get a tour at Malmstrom AFB in the 70’s which included going into a B-52. Still an amazing sight after all the years.
Oh that C5 though! I hope you stayed for the C5 departure and can upload that as well. The C-5's used to have amazing sound with their old engines. It's hard to believe the B-52's are still in service and going through a re-engine process. I am pretty sure they're going to outlive me.
Sure did, I'll have a big compilation of departures out in the next few days!
I have a feeling they will out live me, when I was in the AF in the late 90’s they wanted to push their life to around 150 years. Absolutely insane for an airframe
@@jimbobsmith2496 That indeed, is crazy! I can't imagine the amount of work the maintainers put into those airframes.
That thing is a beast!
I love how the wheels turn sideways so the plane can land sideways
For thirteen years, At Dyess AFB, my dad worked on these planes under Strategic Air Command.
Seeing the B52 turn on its own axis from that angle was pretty cool. Thanks for all the quality uploads Alex.
Alex: Hi from Calgary. Thanks for making the trip over to YXX, the video and audio were well worth it. I"ve heard one fire up and take off before never get tired of that full throttle x8 scream. Nice to see the USAF in attendance.
Been a patron of that show for years. Lots of cool planes.
Never get tired of watching the Buff take off.
I've always thought the B-52 was a large plane, but it looks TINY next to that C-5
What an absolute unit
What a sound, great footage of this beast. Nice smoking takeoff!
Man, that is some big stuff.
Blown away at the size of the Galaxy.
fatso plane, lol
What a beast ..
And those planes are the reason I have hearing loss, extremely loud warming up right next to you while working on the parking apron
Damn those engines are smoky!!!
I lived in Tulsa during the Vietnam era. B-52s were constantly being re-habbed there at McDonnell-Douglas then. “Birds of Death”flying over Tulsa - were routine back then. VERY LOD..
Holy crap, those engines car scream! Did it hurt your ears? I feel like I’d need a hearing aid after watching one of those takeoff in person 😂
Awesome video and great sound!
Wow, the noise and smoke! Nice size comparison to the c-5 as well
Thanks for sharing!
Great content Alex👍
Phenomenal video Alex!
Great video! Nice that this one left the runway lights intact :)
Amazing video!
Very Majestic❗
Man if I only knew, never saw one of these in real life, thanks Alex!
Who needs stealth when your a B-52. Just the sight is when you know you dun goofed up.
Also those engines are so danm sexy sounding. Oh man.
Well said!👍
Vietnam vet here...saw many taking off out Guam. Full of bombs heading to north.
Nice! Thank you for sharing this with us. Will you be coming out to the London Air Show? Some good stuff coming out. Keep up the good work.
Not designed for fuel efficiency, just brute power.
The old B-707 and D-C8 commercial aircraft engines sounded a bit like that too, not as loud of course, but the same high pitched whirring sound and the black exhaust.
i went to the airshow it was awesome
The black smoke is the water methanol injection to boost thrust.
Look how small the 52 looks in front of the C-5, lol... like anyone could think a B-52 is a small aircraft!
C-5 is gigantic but doesn't look as intimidating...its size is what makes it impressive. Almost looks 'puffy and soft'. B52 looks meaner.
The current B-52H sounds like a louder 707-320B (mostly because both planes almost the same engine). It will be interesting to hear what the upgraded B-52H with eight Rolls-Royce F130 (neé BR725) engines will sound like; it may sound like a louder version of the Gulfstream G550 business jet.
Hey man what camera do you use to film
Did you go on the Sunday show? Damn would have loved to meet you
Imagine the fuel consumption and emissions compared to modern aircraft!
I wonder when the re-engine project is set to begin?
The C5 makes the BUFF look like a toy.
C5 looks like an air balloon with wings, lol
I have a feeling his wings are going to fall off
Don't forget the tiny wheels on the tip of every wing, mostly only one of them is touching the ground!
Can't et over size difference @1:07 between this and the C5
i saw that take off from Lynden
Rolling Thunder.
😍😍😍
You should go to the best airshow in North America, which is Airshow London or SKYDRIVE 2023 in London Ontario
It’s a great air show and I really wanted to take my son. Ah well, next year!
Sweeeet
Wait you were here?
BUFF
TF33 engines are screamers
Pretty neat ... but probably can be shot down by a guy on the ground with a shoulder fired small surface to air missile..
Only in your dreams.
