Wootz is Not Damascus. Period. Wootz is not 'pattern welded', it is not composed from two (or mor) different grade steels (like Damascus is), rather it is steel made purposefully with inclusions in it, finely (and not so finely at times) peppered throughout the entirety of the material, to give the edge a microscopic 'toothiness' to it. in many instances, even if washed in an acid bath, it looks like 'dirty' steel., but in that, has its own beauty

I contacted the Damasteel company about this knife when it was released and they said it was Damasteel. -- “There are some claiming it could not be true Damasteel because the blade has been slightly blued which is not possible with Damasteel.” Their response: “That is Damasteel, they have bought material from us.”
@@metal_complexit’s very weird because they evidently know what is and isn’t damasteel as they’ve done dozens of versions of their knives in the past with evidently real damasteel. So it’s not like they wouldn’t know how to label it, the situation is certainly interesting. Rike has never been a company that clones anything so it surprises me to know that they’d admit it’s not damasteel while labeling it as such, regardless it’s some of the most beautiful Damascus I own.
you always don't like the persian curvature but I tell you I was like that for a long time and now the reverbxl is one of my top knives ,, it just comes down to finding yourself in the position to use-case that curve and then you really gain a lot of respect for the shape. One thing it's amazing for is peeling industrial strength sealer off of sheet metal. It outperforms as a baseline.

I remember when the Alien 4 came out, It really showed that Rike is one of the Top production companies when it comes to Machining. I have heard stories that their main machinist is an actual wizard (I assume he is still there). I envy the people that got their hands on the Limited Edition Alien 4 with the Timascus body and blue damascus blade (I believe Mosaic Damascus?), $3500 might seem like a lot but I think it's a fair price considering the materials and work going into it. I hope they don't stop making the regular Alien 4 anytime soon.

Sencut Sachise primary carry today (Pocket clip failure on this one. One of the screws holding the clip sheared itself off, so no more clip. Knife becomes a vest pocket EDC)
There are 3D printing machines for titanium, the processes come from medical technology, e.g. for joint prostheses. However, the machines for this are really expensive, in Germany there is the knife manufacturer UG Tools, which produces handles made of titanium using a 3D printing process.
@EugeneSmedlund here's a quote from Rike - "Alien is the first design, Richard is the designer of the Alien series, and Scavenger is a special version for ADV." So the Alien came first. The ADV was more or less a "special project".
If they use Chinese "PM" Damascus. It's more than likely the core steel is 14cr14movnb. It's a Chinese powder Sprayform steel, some say it's similar to the Japanese R2/SG2 and others say it's similar to S35VN. But we NEED to know what the core steel is when companies SELL us "damascus", if not the word damascus is kinda useless since it can be literally ANYTHING. I hate this trend of known companies just selling us Damascus without telling us, we assume most are a 10cr/9cr but if they don't LIST that, we are left to guess. Since I doubt anyone has actually sent them in to be analyzed.

@nwmetalbug your complaint is justified but your "eternal damnation" policy is super dramatic. I mean if Rike says "F you guys we do what we want" well then ya, sure. Justified. But if Rike says "Hey this was our bad and we want to clarify what it is" that's a different story. Some people are way too quick to drop the hammer and I don't think it's justified here. They were open with me knowing I'd tell everyone. That should count for something
Trademark search at the US office shows Damasteel trademark had been canceled and is "dead" - so in reality the assertion of trademark by the previous owner is illegal and misleading. Anyone can use the word now.
Not trying to make excuses but they really do think about intellectual property different in China - they might not have known they were crossing a line lol
For a guy not trying to sell anything it sure seems like you’re trying to sell something. The moving the knife around on the pad to try to keep the viewer focused on it It sure seems like a short to me. I’d like a little more knife and less FAQ/ press release. It’s just how this video is coming across to me. Sorry if I offended anybody.
So I’m a huge fan of Alien, Predator, and Terminator… so that’s the Rike Alien V4, the Heretic Manticore Predator edition, and the Reate T1000 I need to get. So about 1700 bucks worth of knives just with those 3 so I guess I need to get started!
